Microsoft 's management of app defaults in Windows 11 has received consistent criticism. Compared to Windows 10, the newer operating system complicates the process for users who wish to use third-party applications instead of Microsoft's default offerings. However, that may change soon as Microsoft plans to ease things for those who want to change the default apps on Windows 11. Microsoft, in a blog post, said it is “reaffirming our long-standing approach to put people in control of their Windows PC experience,” announcing the new feature for Windows 11 users that will let them easily control changes to their app defaults. How the new Windows 11 feature will work In Windows 11, if a user prefers not to use Edge as their default browser, they must navigate to the Settings menu and change the default app based on file and link types, which takes up quite some time. But now, Microsoft is introducing a new Settings deep link URI scheme for developers, … [Read more...] about Microsoft to make it easier for users to switch default apps on Windows 11

GNOME 44 Is Here to Make Your Linux PC Better Than Ever
GNOME serves as the default desktop environment for countless Linux distributions, such as Ubuntu and Fedora . GNOME 44 has now been released, with changes that will show up in upcoming Linux distro updates. GNOME 44 has been under development for the past six months, and most of the work has gone into the Settings app. It’s no easy task to organize all of the options, toggles, and links needed for a desktop PC — as we’ve learned from Windows 10/11 and macOS Ventura . The accessibility panel has been redesigned to be more clear, and new options have been added for keyboard features, over-amplification for audio, and making the scrollbars always visible. The sound panel has also been updated, with volume level controls in a separate window. The Mouse & Touchpad section now has integrated videos to demonstrate each option, plus a new testing window and mouse acceleration setting. GNOME 44 also has improvements to the quick settings menu that was introduced in the … [Read more...] about GNOME 44 Is Here to Make Your Linux PC Better Than Ever

Best Kodi XBMC streaming boxes of 2023: the best hardware for Kodi streaming
Kodi boxes, also known as Android TV boxes, are massively popular. The best models deliver 4K video to your TV and allow you unfettered access to audio and video streams of every format and service. If there's a better, more versatile piece of AV software out there, we've yet to see it. On top of giving you the capability to stream video and music files over a local network, the software also includes the ability to install add-ons to stream from almost any streaming service you could think of, including Amazon Prime Instant Video , Spotify and Netflix. One of the main selling points of Kodi is the fact that it’s supported by pretty much any platform you could think of, up to and including macOS, Android, Linux and Windows. The only real drawback we can think of is that Kodi doesn’t actually manufacture streaming boxes (no, the official Kodi Raspberry Pi case doesn't count), so you need to find your own device to run it on. Luckily, dozens of manufacturers the … [Read more...] about Best Kodi XBMC streaming boxes of 2023: the best hardware for Kodi streaming

PWM Fan vs. DC Fan: Which Is Better for PC Cooling?
PWM fans are quieter, more controllable, and have a longer life, making them generally better than DC fans. If you're on a budget or building a PC where constant fan speeds are necessary, DC fans will work just as well as PWM fans. If you’re building a PC, fans may not be the first component you think of, but they’re still important. When going for an air-cooled build, you have the option of DC or PWM fans, but which is better? What Is a DC Fan? As the name implies, a DC fan is a computer fan that runs on direct current from your PC’s power supply or through the motherboard . These fans use a three-pin connector with a power supply pin, a ground pin, and a signal pin. The first two pins provide power, while the signal pin reads information about how fast a fan’s blades are spinning. Because of this, this pin is also frequently known as the tachometer pin. This lets your PC monitor fan speeds and alert you if a fan stops spinning. DC fans can either run at a … [Read more...] about PWM Fan vs. DC Fan: Which Is Better for PC Cooling?

Many companies still don’t see the full value of cybersecurity
Despite news of devastating cyberattacks breaking almost daily, many business leaders still fail to see the full value a strong cybersecurity posture brings to their organization, new research has found This is according to Risky Rewards, a new report published by cybersecurity experts Trend Micro polling more than 2,700 business decision-makers in companies with 250+ employees across 26 countries, finding that around half (51%) see cybersecurity is a “necessary cost but not a revenue contributor”. For nearly two-fifths (38%) cybersecurity is a barrier, not a business enabler. Winning new clients “If organizations want to make the most of their security (opens in new tab) investments, business leaders must reframe their view of cybersecurity – to think more broadly about how it can positively impact the enterprise,” commented Jon Clay, VP of … [Read more...] about Many companies still don’t see the full value of cybersecurity
AI Opener: OpenAI’s Sutskever in Conversation With Jensen Huang
Like old friends catching up over coffee, two industry icons reflected on how modern AI got its start, where it’s at today and where it needs to go next. Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, interviewed AI pioneer Ilya Sutskever in a fireside chat at GTC . The talk was recorded a day after the launch of GPT-4, the most powerful AI model to date from OpenAI, the research company Sutskever co-founded. They talked at length about GPT-4 and its forerunners, including ChatGPT. That generative AI model, though only a few months old, is already the most popular computer application in history. Their conversation touched on the capabilities, limits and inner workings of the deep neural networks that are capturing the imaginations of hundreds of millions of users. Compared to ChatGPT, GPT-4 marks a “pretty substantial improvement across many dimensions,” said Sutskever, noting the new model can read images as well as text. “In some future version, [users] might get a diagram … [Read more...] about AI Opener: OpenAI’s Sutskever in Conversation With Jensen Huang
It Takes a Village: 100+ NVIDIA MLOps and AI Platform Partners Help Enterprises Move AI Into Production
Building AI applications is hard. Putting them to use across a business can be even harder. Less than one-third of enterprises that have begun adopting AI actually have it in production, according to a recent IDC survey . Businesses often realize the full complexity of operationalizing AI just prior to launching an application. Problems discovered so late can seem insurmountable, so the deployment effort is often stalled and forgotten. To help enterprises get AI deployments across the finish line, more than 100 machine learning operations ( MLOps ) software providers are working with NVIDIA. These MLOps pioneers provide a broad array of solutions to support businesses in optimizing their AI workflows for both existing operational pipelines and ones built from scratch. Many NVIDIA MLOps and AI platform ecosystem partners as well as DGX-Ready Software partners, including Canonical, ClearML, Dataiku, Domino Data Lab, Run:ai and Weights & Biases, are building solutions … [Read more...] about It Takes a Village: 100+ NVIDIA MLOps and AI Platform Partners Help Enterprises Move AI Into Production
