Microsoft Corp. will slow hiring in its Windows and Office divisions as well as the Teams chat and conferencing software groups, the executive vice president who runs those products said in an email to employees Thursday. All new hires must be approved by executive vice president Rajesh Jha and his leadership team, Jha said in the email, according to a Microsoft spokesperson. Those groups have expanded recently and the company wants to make sure it’s making the right hires in the right places, the spokesperson said. The step is not companywide and overall the software maker will continue to hire. “As Microsoft gets ready for the new fiscal year, it is making sure the right resources are aligned to the right opportunity,” the company said in a statement. “Microsoft will continue to grow headcount in the year ahead and it will add additional focus to where those resources go.” The company’s new fiscal year starts July 1. Audio player loading… Connecting your Meta Quest 2 headset ( formerly Oculus Quest 2 ) to a Windows 11 PC just got a much-needed improvement via an Oculus PC app update. If you’ve tried playing a PC VR game with your Quest 2 headset recently, you probably noticed near-constant juddering if your PC uses Windows 11. This effect causes the screen to shake in a way that ranges from being a minor annoyance to incredibly nausea-inducing. Thankfully, Meta has now issued a fix to help alleviate the problems via the Oculus PC app’s Public Test Channel (spotted by UploadVR (opens in new tab) ) – though you may still notice a few issues even after downloading it. How to download the fix To sign up to the Public Test Channel and access the shuddering effect patch you’ll need to open up the Oculus PC app and head to the Settings; you can find it in the menu bar on the left-hand side of the screen. From here open the Beta tab and you should see the option to toggle … [Read more...] about You can now download a fix for the Oculus Quest 2’s Windows 11 compatibility issues

How to Allow a Standard Windows 10 User to Change the Time and Date

May 5, 2016 by www.howtogeek.com Leave a Comment

By default, only users with administrator rights in Windows 10 can change time and date settings. If you’re using Windows 10 Professional or Enterprise edition, however, you can use Group Policy to allow standard users to change the time and date. Here’s how to do it. If you’re using Windows Pro or Enterprise, though, you’re good to go. Be warned that Group Policy is a pretty powerful tool, so if you’ve never used it before, it’s worth taking some time to learn what it can do . Also, if you’re on a company network, do everyone a favor and check with your admin first. If your work computer is part of a domain, it’s also likely that it’s part of a domain group policy that will supersede the local group policy, anyway. First, sign in with an administrative account and open the Group Policy Editor by hitting Start, typing “gpedit.msc”, and then pressing Enter. In the Group Policy window, in the left-hand pane, drill down to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security … [Read more...] about How to Allow a Standard Windows 10 User to Change the Time and Date

Google Assistant is finally available on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

May 23, 2022 by www.theverge.com Leave a Comment

Good news for Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 owners: the wait is over. Google Assistant is finally available for download starting today. Google Assistant for Wear OS 3 is available for download in the Google Play Store and can be launched from the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic’s app menu. However, you can also use voice commands to open Google Assistant or reprogram the watches’ home button as a shortcut. This update has been a long time coming. When Google and Samsung first announced Wear OS 3, the companies promised that the unified platform would give Samsung smartwatch users more choice in apps. Previously, Samsung’s Tizen-based smartwatches could only offer Bixby as a digital assistant. The idea was that Wear OS 3 would let consumers choose between Bixby and Google Assistant. The same would be true for apps like Google Pay. Google Assistant has been notably absent from the Galaxy Watch 4 since its launch last year. Despite user frustrations, Google and Samsung continued to … [Read more...] about Google Assistant is finally available on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

May 19, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… YouTube Music on Wear OS (opens in new tab) is finally able to stream music over LTE and Wi-Fi. Previously, you had to download an entire playlist to your smartwatch in order to listen to music. In a recent community post (opens in new tab) , Google explained that users will now have access to over 80 million songs and thousands of playlists on the YouTube Music platform. As part of the update, the app now comes with Smart Downloads, which refreshes downloaded songs every time your device connects to Wi-Fi. Google opens up Chrome and Chrome OS to enterprise security, control integrations

May 26, 2022 by www.theverge.com Leave a Comment

Google is highlighting how Chromebooks can work in “zero trust” corporate environments with its new Chrome Enterprise Connectors Framework. The new integration system is designed to make the Chrome browser and Chrome OS devices easier for IT departments to implement with existing security, endpoint, and authentication solutions as well as other management solutions. Google Chrome OS exec John Solomon describes the new tools as a “plug and play” solution that lets other companies helm Chrome OS management functions like remote-wiping a Chromebook using BlackBerry Unified Endpoint Management or flagging malware downloads with Splunk. These types of management functions previously worked through the Google Admin console . Managing and enrolling Chrome OS devices in the enterprise will still rely on Google tools like Google Admin and Chrome Browser Cloud Management. But new tools like Chrome OS Data Controls give enterprises more options to allow or lock down actions like printing, … [Read more...] about Google opens up Chrome and Chrome OS to enterprise security, control integrations
