Former Trump official claims the US would destroy TSMC plants were China to invade Taiwan

March 15, 2023 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

Why it matters: The idea that the US would destroy Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing facilities to keep them out of China's hands in the event of an invasion has resurfaced. The very mention of such a drastic measure highlights the volatility of tensions surrounding the three countries, but TSMC thinks its factories could be neutralized much less violently. Former US National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien told Semafor this week that the US and its allies would destroy TSMC's manufacturing capacity in Taiwan if they failed to prevent China from invading and taking over the self-ruled island. O'Brien warned that letting China take control of the facilities would give it too much power, but TSMC disagrees. TSMC is easily the world's largest maker of the semiconductors that power most computerized devices today. As such, its fate and the subsequent effects on the global economy are a primary issue of concern regarding tensions between China, Taiwan, and the US. China considers … [Read more...] about Former Trump official claims the US would destroy TSMC plants were China to invade Taiwan

China Bashes Japan PM Daring to Visit India While Xi Jinping Is in Russia

China’s regime-controlled news outlet condemned conservative Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on Monday for daring to visit India while China’s dictator Xi Jinping began a trip to Russia, accusing Kishida of pursuing ambitions “too big for his boots” and lamenting that Kishida and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi were siphoning media away from Moscow. Kishida landed in New Delhi on Sunday, meeting with Modi and engaging in extensive exchanges meant to promote Japan’s economic involvement in India as well as planning further geopolitical cooperation. PM Kishida: During my first visit to #India in a year, Prime Minister Modi ( @narendramodi ) and I discussed a wide range of issues facing the international community. We also confirmed that we will cooperate in the leadup to both the #G7 and the #G20 summits and that we will (1/2) pic.twitter.com/cm3fvJJUy4 — PM's Office of Japan (@JPN_PMO) March 20, 2023 On Monday, Kishida delivered a speech in India laying … [Read more...] about China Bashes Japan PM Daring to Visit India While Xi Jinping Is in Russia

TSMC founder Morris Chang supports China chip sanctions, but voices doubts on Chips Act

March 18, 2023 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

Forward-looking: This week, the founder of the world's leading chip manufacturer commented on geopolitical factors driving changes in the semiconductor industry. While he voiced support for recent US sanctions on Chinese chip imports, his comments mostly framed issues based on whether they benefitted TSMC. At the CommonWealth Semiconductor Forum, TSMC founder Morris Chang joined a discussion about segmentation and specialization in the chip industry this week. He supports recent US sanctions in China but expressed doubts about the country's efforts to boost domestic semiconductor manufacturing. Chang estimates chip manufacturing in mainland China is about five or six years behind Taiwan and applauds the American sanctions because they will keep it that way. The sanctions, enacted over the last year, are designed to restrict China's development of supercomputers and other hardware for military purposes. Last year, the US imposed import restrictions on various Chinese … [Read more...] about TSMC founder Morris Chang supports China chip sanctions, but voices doubts on Chips Act

ABC News Refuses to Review ‘Laptop from Hell’ While Reporting Hunter’s Claims

March 18, 2023 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

ABC News acknowledged Friday that the legacy outlet has refused to review Hunter Biden’s abandoned “Laptop from Hell” — all while reporting on the infamous laptop story by printing scoops from Hunter’s legal team. In its Friday report on Hunter’s “counterclaims alleging invasion of privacy in response to a defamation lawsuit brought by the Delaware-based computer repairman,” ABC News admitted it “has not reviewed nor verified the contents of the laptop or hard drive.” ABC News reporter Lucien Bruggeman, a former Stephen Colbert intern, acknowledged the news organization has not “reviewed nor verified” the “Laptop from Hell” after it was publicly disclosed two years ago by Breitbart News political editor Emma-Jo Morris, who was formerly at the New York Post and broke what some say is the greatest bombshell story in the twenty-first century — that President Joe Biden (Big Guy) was in on a family deal to earn China cash. While ABC News has not taken the time to verify the … [Read more...] about ABC News Refuses to Review ‘Laptop from Hell’ While Reporting Hunter’s Claims

Mitsui & Co., Ltd., one of Japan’s largest business conglomerates, is collaborating with NVIDIA on Tokyo-1 — an initiative to supercharge the nation’s pharmaceutical leaders with technology, including high-resolution molecular dynamics simulations and generative AI models for drug discovery. Announced today at the NVIDIA GTC global AI conference, the Tokyo-1 project features an NVIDIA DGX AI supercomputer that will be accessible to Japan’s pharma companies and startups. The effort is poised to accelerate Japan’s $100 billion pharma industry, the world’s third largest following the U.S. and China. “Japanese pharma companies are experts in wet lab research, but they have not yet taken advantage of high performance computing and AI on a large scale,” said Yuhi Abe, general manager of the digital healthcare business department at Mitsui. “With Tokyo-1, we are creating an innovation hub that will enable the pharma industry to transform the landscape with state-of-the-art tools … [Read more...] about Mitsui and NVIDIA Announce World’s First Generative AI Supercomputer for Pharmaceutical Industry
