If you haven’t heard by now, Huawei has been blacklisted by the US government and banned from doing business with US companies. The implications behind this ban are huge, not just for Huawei, but for the companies they work with, and also for consumers who will no doubt feel the effects of this ban in a very tangible manner. Who is Huawei? Huawei is a company based in China. They are the second-largest smartphone maker in the world, usurping the position from Apple and is nipping on the heels of Samsung, which is currently the largest smartphone maker in the world. News coming out of Warsaw, Poland on Friday about another one of Huawei's executives being arrested. There were actually two arrests made in Poland, one was a Chinese citizen who was a former envoy in Poland, before joining Huawei as a senior executive. The second is a Polish citizen, who has held many top government cybersecurity positions. This is all according to the country's Internal Security Agency. The two were charged with spying for China. The offices of Huawei and Orange - one of the larger wireless carriers in the country, that Huawei is working closely with - were searched, in addition to the homes of both men. There's no word on what was found in those searches, but they did seize documents and electronic data. This is a pretty big deal for Huawei. Huawei just can't seem to get out of hot water these days. First, the company was barred from selling its flagships in the USA, with authorities giving out warnings to friendly countries that they should ban the China-based company's devices as well. Then, Huawei's chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou, who also happens to be the daughter of the company's founder, got arrested in Canada, allegedly due to being linked to illegal equipment sales in Iran. And now, the director of Huawei's branch in Poland has also been detained, reportedly on allegations of espionage.The details on the arrest are still a bit murky. According to the reports, two people have been detained — a Chinese national who is a Huawei employee, and a Polish national who is a former agent of the international security agency and is currently involved in the "cyber business".
