The head of the Royal Air Force says he thinks that Britain should go Net Zero ten years earlier than planned because ‘our public demands it of us.’ According to the Telegraph : While Defence, which accounts for 50 per cent of the UK central government’s emissions, has pledged to work towards its legal commitment of net-zero by 2050, Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston has called on the Royal Air Force to meet the target 10 years earlier. During a recent visit to Washington, Sir Mike said: “I recognise that sounds crazy to some, that we’ve got an Air Force Chief talking about being net-zero, but I think the imperative is clear: our politicians will demand it of us, are demanding of us. Our public demands it of us. And the young people in the Royal Air Force today demand it of me and the leadership, that we should be taking a lead in this.” Sir Mike said he had a “hunch” that as the climate crisis worsens, the target for net-zero will be brought forward. A new judicial order in the Silk Road drug trafficking case has dealt a harsh blow to suspect Ross Ulbricht's defense—less than a week before his criminal trial is scheduled to begin. Ulbricht's lawyer sought to remove the government's evidence about the alleged six murders-for-hire from the case, but late Wednesday, US District Judge Katherine Forrest wrote that she will allow that evidence to be put in front of a jury, even though Ulbricht does not currently face charges of attempted murder. The 45-page order sides with the government on almost every key point. This is likely the last major pre-trial order, and it tips the balance decisively in the government's favor. The question now is whether it will push Ulbricht toward making a plea deal. If no deal is reached, Ulbricht will face a jury trial in a Manhattan courtroom next Tuesday morning. The world has lost a third of its forest since the last ice age , and an estimated 15 percent of global greenhouse gases still come from deforestation and forest degradation. Now a new pledge made at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow last month hopes to change this stark picture. The Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use, signed by key forest nations, aims to reduce deforestation to zero by 2030. The pledge has raised hopes that the world would see a fresh impetus to curb the devastating impacts of deforestation. “If we could get deforestation to zero, it would be an incredible achievement,” says Simon Lewis, a researcher of global change science at the University of Leeds and University College London. “Both in terms of carbon [...] and for biodiversity and conservation, because two-thirds of the world's species are in the world's tropical forests.” But there are also serious caveats to the pledge, including the fact that similar declarations have been … [Read more...] about What will it take to end deforestation by 2030?
Home / Opinions / Music & Movies Android & Chill An Android media player with Play Store access and the right price would mean never buying another iPod again. Jerry Hildenbrand 4 Dec 2021 3 Source: Jerry Hildenbrand / Android Central I've had a lot of Android devices over the years. Among all the phones and tablets and TV boxes though, my favorite is the lowly Samsung Galaxy Player. I got more mileage out of it than any other Android device, at half the cost of the others. It was cheap as dirt and had a great Wolfson DAC that drove my headphones almost to the breaking point. I used it until it literally stopped working, no matter how many new batteries I stuck in it. That's why one thing I really wanted to see over the Black Friday weekend was a new Android Media player. My wishlist wasn't very long: it needed to have access to the Play Store, it needed to have a decent set of audio specs with a headphone jack, and … [Read more...] about Samsung needs to bring back its iPod competitor
