HP on Thursday made a series of announcements ahead of next week's NRF event, revealing that it's expanding its focus beyond the enterprise to target small and medium sized retailers and hospitality operators. Key to the news is the launch of a new all-in-one point of sale (POS) system, along with a partnership with PayPal for payment processing and services. Aaron Weiss, VP and GM of Retail Solutions for HP, said the SMB market is an area where HP has not seen a lot of focus or traction to date. The source code for the TreasureHunter point-of-sale (PoS) malware has been leaked online and may result in a fresh wave of attacks against retailers. The code, discovered and confirmed by Flashpoint researchers, has been released to the public through a Russian-speaking online forum. The same threat actor has also leaked the malware's GPU builder and administrator panel, which when compiled, offers those without specialized knowledge the opportunity to wreak havoc on target PoS systems. PoS malware, often small in size, is designed in order to target systems used in sales, including retail terminals. Once infected, malicious code will often covertly steal data -- such as credit card numbers -- and send this information to a command-and-control (C&C) server under an attacker's control. This stolen information may then be used to create clone cards and customer records stolen from PoS terminals may also be sold on for the purposes of identity theft. In the cases of … [Read more...] about TreasureHunter source code leaked for the masses to pillage PoS systems
There's a wide selection of mobile hardware these days, but the variations between flagships are getting fewer with every year. IP-68+ ratings and high-dpi OLED displays are commonplace now, and every new phone wins a camera award. The only real way manufacturers can differentiate is via the software experience, and everyone has an option when it comes to that, including those of us here at Android Police. So, what operating system does your phone use? We're pretty varied, but most of us at Android Police probably use a mix of Meego and Windows NT 3.51. Microsoft's new NT kernel really is great, but I know Cody and David still prefer to stick with DOS. Artem, of course, is still using NeXTSTEP. Personally, I think Palm's new WebOS is the future. But there are a lot of other operating systems to choose between. From iOS to OS/2 Warp, the possibilities are endless. Some of us at Android Police even hope that someday Google might make an operating system of its own. One can dream. … [Read more...] about Weekend poll: What operating system does your phone use?
