Google Maps ’ Street View is celebrating its 15th anniversary and on the occasion, Google has introduced two new upgrades, one of which is the arrival of the Street View imagery on Android and iOS apps. To see how the feature update works, you have to open the Street View mode and tap anywhere on the screen. Even if the iPhone 14 is the most powerful phone ever, that’s not enough
Audio player loading… I must confess, I didn't quite 'get' the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 as soon as I heard about it. It's a new, super-powerful chipset from Qualcomm that'll come to Android phones toward the end of 2022, and a small step up over the 8 Gen 1 already seen in the OnePlus 10 Pro , Xiaomi 12 , and members of the Samsung Galaxy S22 family that launched in the US. The flagship features include 10% faster CPU performance, 10% faster GPU clock speeds and 20% better AI power efficiency - and if your eyes glazed over when you started reading that, we don't blame you. It's not exactly a sexy new smartphone component, and it's very much the definition of 'an incremental upgrade'. But that doesn't even matter - tech fans know that Apple's Bionic chips are always much faster than Qualcomm's Snapdragon rivals, and as a die-hard Android fan, even I'll admit that the iPhone 14 will probably have any of its Android contemporaries beat in terms of sheer power. But … [Read more...] about Even if the iPhone 14 is the most powerful phone ever, that’s not enough
Apple punishes Windows 11 users with new iTunes update, just in time for WWDC
Audio player loading… Apple replaced iTunes with the Music app in macOS Catalina , but it's still available in Windows 10 and Windows 11 - and it’s just had a new update. Apple's music library app is likely how you first came across the company and the iPod - like when I bought the third-generation iPod in 2004. Managing music libraries and buying content on the iTunes Store was ahead of its time, but since most of us listen to music with streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify these days, iTunes has become a distant, and regrettable, memory. Except for Windows users, where Apple is holding off turning iTunes into a dedicated Music app , as it has done on macOS. The new update is just bug fixes, but it's not good enough anymore. Indeed, iTunes for Windows is looking more outdated with every passing year. It’s time for Apple to take another look at this strategy, especially as Apple Music is available on Android devices . … [Read more...] about Apple punishes Windows 11 users with new iTunes update, just in time for WWDC
Framie.io brings pro-quality video editing to the home office
Audio player loading… Frame.io has unveiled a raft of new features and updates for its remote video collaboration platform in advance of NAB 2022 . A new Apple TV 4K app, which allows content professionals to view their video clips in up to 10-bit 4K HDR, will catch the eye. Especially after over 100 professional editors recently took Apple to task for its handling of video editing software Final Cut Pro. The new app is intended to harness the Apple TV 4K screen to reproduce high-quality professional screenings outside the studio environment. “Imagine being able to view a color-correction session from your couch or your office. Or being able to actually see the details of shots that require extensive VFX,” wrote the firm. From the camera to the cloud Cloud integration is also at the top of the agenda for Frame.io. Back in February 2021, the Adobe-owned firm announced Camera to Cloud, a service letting professionals securely … [Read more...] about Framie.io brings pro-quality video editing to the home office
“Tough to forge” digital driver’s license is… easy to forge
In late 2019, the government of New South Wales in Australia rolled out digital driver's licenses. The new licenses allowed people to use their iPhone or Android device to show proof of identity and age during roadside police checks or at bars, stores, hotels, and other venues. ServiceNSW, as the government body is usually referred to, promised it would “provide additional levels of security and protection against identity fraud, compared to the plastic [driver's license]” citizens had used for decades. Now, 30 months later, security researchers have shown that it’s trivial for just about anyone to forge fake identities using the digital driver's licenses, or DDLs. The technique allows people under drinking age to change their date of birth and for fraudsters to forge fake identities. The process takes well under an hour, doesn’t require any special hardware or expensive software, and will generate fake IDs that pass inspection using the electronic verification system used by … [Read more...] about “Tough to forge” digital driver’s license is… easy to forge
Here’s How to Get Google Assistant on the Galaxy Watch 4
Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 is one of the best smartwatches around, but unlike every other Wear OS device, it didn’t have Google Assistant. Now that has finally changed. Samsung revealed earlier this week that Google Assistant was finally rolling out to the Galaxy Watch 4, which has only had Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant since the watch was released last year. The good news is that it’s showing up on watches automatically without the need to do anything — in my case, the Assistant icon appeared at the bottom of my watch’s app list, and tapping it started the setup process. If you don’t see Google Assistant yet, Droid Life pointed out you can force the installation by opening the Play Store app listing for “Google Assistant for wearables,” and then choosing your watch as the target device. Much easier than the process for installing Google Assistant on Samsung’s older Tizen-powered Galaxy Watches , which was also an unofficial version. By default, holding down the home … [Read more...] about Here’s How to Get Google Assistant on the Galaxy Watch 4
