Even though Sony launched the PlayStation 5 five months ago, it's still extremely hard for anyone to get their hands on one. The pandemic and the global chip shortage have definitely contributed to this lack of inventory, but demand for the PS5 has also been sky high. In fact, it was recently named the fastest-selling console in US history . That means that if you've been trying -- and failing -- to buy a PS5, you're not alone. there is hope on the horizon, though. Retailers are restocking the PS5 on a fairly consistent basis. Granted, it sells out almost immediately, but any progress is good progress. As of April 12, both versions of the PS5 -- the $500 model with Blu-ray and the less expensive $400 digital-only edition with no optical drive -- are out of stock at every major retailer, including Target, Best Buy, Amazon, GameStop and Walmart, but that shouldn't stop you from trying to find one. If you're willing to shell out far more than the sticker price, … [Read more...] about Where to find a PS5: What you need to know about getting Sony’s new gaming console

3 don’t-miss deals from Amazon’s Certified Refurbished Sale
People sometimes ask me, "Rick, do you like refurbished electronics?" My response: "No. I love refurbished electronics!" This probably explains why I get invited to few parties. I really do love refurbished gear, though, especially when it's good as new but for a much lower price. Case in point: Amazon's Certified Refurbished sale has a handful of extra-good deals, three of which I've highlighted below. Here's where the love comes in: Each product here is inspected and tested to look and work like new. And each product is backed by a full one-year warranty, same as a new one. The only real difference is the packaging: refurbs typically come in non-descript brown boxes, not fancy, colorful retail ones. To my thinking that matters only if you're shopping for a gift for someone -- and even then it's not really a huge deal. (It's what's inside that counts, right?) Here are three don't-miss deals from today's sale. Certified Refurbished Echo Show 8 $70 (save $60) … [Read more...] about 3 don’t-miss deals from Amazon’s Certified Refurbished Sale
Sony WH-1000XM4 noise-canceling headphones: $200 refurbished
I literally just finished writing this ode to refurbished electronics when I spotted this deal: For a limited time, and while supplies last, Secondipity via eBay has the refurbished Sony WH-1000XM4 noise-canceling headphones (midnight blue) for $200 . That's the lowest price I've seen for these in any condition. Note: At this writing, the listing says "over 90% sold," so I'm not sure how long this will last. See it at eBay Hang on, refurbished headphones? Actually, these are certified -refurbished, meaning they should arrive in good-as-new condition. They're also backed by a two-year warranty. So there's no real downside here, and quite a big upside: Sony's top-rated ANC 'phones sell new for $350. OK, but how are they in real life? I once tested these very headphones at a refurb price of $218. Read that story to gauge my overall thoughts on the purchase. (Short version: Huge win.) Meanwhile, read David Carnoy's WH-1000XM4 review if you're not yet … [Read more...] about Sony WH-1000XM4 noise-canceling headphones: $200 refurbished
Put a collectors’-edition Ant-Man helmet on your head for $35 (save $65)
Are you into cosplay? Here's a major score for your collection: For a limited time, and while supplies last, GameStop has the Marvel Legends Series Ant-Man Roleplay Premium Collector Movie Electronic Helmet for $35 . That's $65 off the regular price and by far the best deal I've seen anywhere. (It's $90 at Amazon.) Shipping is free; it literally hits the threshold to the exact penny. See it at GameStop Aside from looking super-cool, there's nothing particularly special about the helmet except that it's an official Marvel replica -- and has LEDs you can toggle between red and blue. I really liked the two Ant-Man movies, to say nothing of the superhero's appearance in Captain America: Civil War. That said, I never felt a strong desire to wear an Ant-Man costume -- until now. I'm thinking I could pair this with a decent suit found on eBay and have myself a pretty solid Halloween costume. Your thoughts?
