There are times you want to install a native app on your device to get the full experience from a service or social media platform, and times where you just want to visit the mobile site every now and then and not bother with having the full app. Progressive Web Apps bridge the gap between the two situations, creating an app-like experience in the browser, and they've evolved so much in recent years that they're becoming viable alternatives to native apps. As developers increasingly adopt the approach, Perfecto -- the provider of a continuous testing and monitoring platform for optimizing DevOps pipelines -- said it's the first vendor with a cloud-based testing platform to support automated testing of PWAs. The company said it supports … [Read more...] about Perfecto Tests Progressive Web Apps — ADTmag
President Barack Obama is the first president to preside over the smartphone age in the U.S., and in both of his presidential campaigns the technology he employed helped him win the election. On the other hand, Mitt Romney's campaign clumsily handled technology as though it were a wet football and the failure of an app might have led to the easier than expected re-election of President Obama. The app was part of a system called Project ORCA that was designed to collect and monitor polls using smartphones to collect information in real-time. But instead of adding thousands of votes, a number of problems with the app and how it was accessed might have led to Romney missing out on thousands of potential votes. Using the app was designed to be faster and more precise than using phone calls to get voters to areas … [Read more...] about Did an app failure cost Romney the presidency?
