Montblanc recently launched its most expensive smartwatch Summit 3. The wearable is the first non-Samsung smartwatch to run Wear OS 3 . Now the company has confirmed that it will be the first Wear OS 3 powered smartwatch to come with iOS support. This means that apart from Android, iPhone users can also use Montblanc Summit 3 smartwatch. According to a report by The Verge, Qualcomm spokesperson Lauren Miller has confirmed that the Montblanc Summit 3 will come with iOS support. The smartwatch is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset and is the first after Samsung to come with Wear OS 3 pre-installed. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and the upcoming Pixel Watch, this one is not exclusive to Android users. Miller elaborated that Summit 3 comes with a companion app which is available on both Android and iOS operating systems. First non-Samsung Wear OS 3 smartwatch to come from Montblanc
Montblanc could be the first manufacturer outside of Samsung to release a smartwatch running Wear OS 3, the latest version of Google’s wrist-worn operating system. Like its previous smartwatches, the Summit 3 launches with an eye-watering price tag, and its focus is more on being a fashion accessory than pushing the boundaries of what a smartwatch is capable of. It’ll cost €1,250 (around $1,314 USD) when it goes on sale globally on July 15th. Wear OS 3 is the most significant update to Google’s smartwatch operating system in years, but it’s only currently available on a pair of Samsung smartwatches: the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic , which released last year. That means we’re yet to experience the software without Samsung’s apps and services layered on top. Promised benefits of Wear OS 3 over Wear OS 2 include better battery life, improved load times, and smoother animations. There are more Wear OS 3 watches on the way, but it’s unclear exactly when they’ll … [Read more...] about First non-Samsung Wear OS 3 smartwatch to come from Montblanc

Wear OS 3 doesn’t only work with Android after all – it can work with your iPhone
Audio player loading… Wear OS 3 is the biggest overhaul we’ve seen for Google’s smartwatch operating system so far, but it’s also one that seemingly came with a big disappointment, as the first – and until now only – Wear OS 3 watches were the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic , and they’re not compatible with iPhones. Far from this being a limitation of Wear OS 3 though, it seems that this is simply a limitation that Samsung has decided to impose, as the Montblanc Summit 3 was recently announced, and this is confirmed to have iOS support. This detail was mentioned in the wearable’s official specs list and also confirmed to Wareable (opens in new tab) by a spokesperson from Qualcomm, which doesn’t make the Summit 3 but does make the Snapdragon 4100 Plus chipset at its heart, so they should know. Now, chances are you’re not going to run out and buy the Montblanc Summit 3 – even if you are an iPhone owner with an aversion to the Apple Watch … [Read more...] about Wear OS 3 doesn’t only work with Android after all – it can work with your iPhone

google: Your next Google OS-powered smartwatch may have this Vodafone technology
Vodafone is working with Google to extend the battery life of a smartwatch by reducing the "chatter" between the device and the network, a bigger drain of energy than screen brightness and other settings targeted by low power modes. The mobile operator has developed an API (application programming interface) that enables apps and operating systems, such as Google Android 's Wear OS , to reconfigure how they communicate with its network, Vodafone's director of network architecture Santiago Tenorio said. "With wearables, such as smartwatches and other devices, battery life is incredibly important for our users," the companies said in a joint statement on Thursday. "That's why Vodafone and Google's Android team are collaborating to optimise battery life on Wear OS by Google watches." Changes such as making the watch connect to the network intermittently instead of constantly and releasing the channel through which it was transmitting more … [Read more...] about google: Your next Google OS-powered smartwatch may have this Vodafone technology

UberX Share brings carpooling back to NYC, LA, Chicago, and six other cities
Last November, Uber launched a pilot of its Uber Pool replacement, dubbed UberX Share , in Miami, Florida. Today, the company says shared rides have returned to nine cities: New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix, San Diego, Portland, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh. Like Lyft, Uber paused its Uber Pool service in March 2020 with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Lyft Shared rides resumed in several cities over the last few months, and now, UberX Share is following a similar rollout. According to Uber senior vice president of mobility Andrew Macdonald , the feature will only match riders headed in the same direction and is designed to add no more than eight additional minutes to your trip’s arrival time. The main difference between Uber’s carpool service and the pilot program is a looser approach to some COVID-19 precautions. While Uber Pool allowed riders to request up to two seats in a vehicle, UberX Share can only be used for one person at a … [Read more...] about UberX Share brings carpooling back to NYC, LA, Chicago, and six other cities
Warning to tech CEOs:
When I watched the first season of HBO's Silicon Valley in 2014, I thought it was OK, but not amazing. Yet I kept thinking about the show and talking to friends about it. That's when I realized— Silicon Valley isn't a perfect satire, but that doesn't matter. It's the satire we need in our tech-obsessed world. Hunger is the best seasoning, and when it came to tech satire, I was a starving man. The tech corporations that run the machines in our pockets and the skies have more money, power, and influence than ever before. Even when they're good, but especially when they're bad, we've got to take them down a notch sometimes—just to stay sane. And nothing does that like satire. So where's The Daily Show for the tech world? Comedies about computers tend to be insipid, miss the target, or worse, culminating with The Internship . That vapid and formulaic 2013 film used the considerable talents of Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn to produce what amounted to a Hollywood press release … [Read more...] about Warning to tech CEOs:
fitbit: Fitbit rolls out new ‘Sleep Profile’ feature: How it works, eligible devices and more
Google has announced that Fitbit is introducing a new premium feature called 'Sleep Profile' that offers a new longitudinal analysis of users sleep patterns. The new feature for Fitbit's members makes sleep data easier to interpret with fun animal characters, with the aim to help them take steps to improve their sleep quality and, in turn, overall health. Sleep tracking is one of the most-popular features offered by Fitbit devices ever since the company introduced it in 2009. With the new feature, users are grouped based on 10 sleep metrics — five of these are new to Fitbit. These include bedtime consistency, the time before sound sleep and disrupted sleep. Fitbit says that its research team studied 1,000 different sleep features during its analysis before distilling it down to the key metrics we include in your profile. Ranging from new metrics, including sleep schedule variability, time before sound sleep and disrupted sleep, to previously tracked metrics such … [Read more...] about fitbit: Fitbit rolls out new ‘Sleep Profile’ feature: How it works, eligible devices and more
