What just happened? Are there people on your Twitter followers list whom you wish weren't there but don't want to block—for whatever reason? Then here's some good news: the service is now rolling out a way to remove these accounts using a soft block feature. Soft blocking someone on Twitter means they will no longer see your tweets on their timelines, and they won't be informed of their removal. However, unlike a full block, they will still be able to direct message you, and they can still follow you again if they wish. To use the soft block feature, simply go to your profile and click on 'Followers.' From here, click on the three dots next to the person's name and select 'Remove this follower.' It's currently only available to web users; no word on when or if it's coming to the Twitter app. The feature is the latest introduced by Twitter to help users avoid the trolls and abuse the platform has become infamous for, while allowing them more control over the … [Read more...] about Twitter now allows you to discreetly soft block followers

Sony is ready to throw-down with a new camera-first 5G phone — the Xperia Pro-I — in the battle for smartphone camera supremacy. Less than 12-hours after the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro’s reviews started dropping online, and all the camera enthusiasts trying to determine whether the Pixel 6 Pro or the iPhone 13 Pro Max has the best smartphone camera, Sony wants to be in the mix with the Xperia Pro-I. The “I” in the Xperia Pro-I stands for imaging, which pays homage to Sony’s popular line of Alpha mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras and professional video cameras, rather than point-and-shoot camera model names like the Sony RX100 VII (Mark 7) . At least that’s what the Sony representatives who were briefing journalists ahead of this event told us. The star of the show is obviously this device’s camera technology, so it’s totally fair to think of the Xperia Pro-I as a camera that happens to come with a phone attached. After all, it’s notable for using a similar 1.0-type … [Read more...] about Sony Xperia Pro-I is a camera first, phone second
PayPal's Rob Skinner is pretty happy with his five-year old prediction that we could all be using a digital wallet instead of a physical one by 2016, but his thoughts have already turned to what the next five years will bring. It was 2011 when Skinner and PayPal went public with the assertion that we could be using just our phone to pay for things within the next five years, and amid the arrival of payment systems from Apple and Google, you could indeed leave the house in many cities without picking up your faithful leather friend. Despite the obvious headlines , Skinner was never suggesting the death of the traditional wallet, just that the choice would be there. "That's the key point," he tells TechRadar in a conversation that coincides with the 10th anniversary of the first PayPal mobile transaction in the UK. "So much of what we do is about choice - whether that's letting people choose a different way of funding a Paypal payment or recognising that cash is … [Read more...] about Beyond the wallet: how will you be paying for things in 2021?
NFC (short for Near Field Communication) has long been tipped to change our lives for good, from how we shop to the way we exchange information. While NFC is part of our daily routines, that's mainly in the form of contactless payments and, erm, toys – beyond that things are pretty limited. Weren't we promised more? Google 'NFC' and you'll see there are all kinds of other ways startups and big brands are trying to make NFC happen. As of yet, the successful use cases are pretty rare. For those unfamiliar with NFC, it's a type of wireless data transfer. It's able to detect and enable tech (within close proximity) to communicate without the need for additional forms of connection – no internet or Bluetooth required here. What is NFC ? Everything you need to know You'll find NFC in your contactless bank card, and in the same way that augmented reality has become synonymous with Snapchat filters, you'd be forgiven for thinking NFC is all about payments. The … [Read more...] about Contact-less: NFC is good for payments but not much else
