It’s common for cell phone plans to bundle streaming services or cloud storage, usually at a reduced cost or free. Apple has now opened the door for iCloud storage, Apple Music, Apple TV+, and other services to be bundled with mobile carrier plans. EE, a mobile network in the United Kingdom, announced this morning that it is the first mobile network to bundle Apple One with a mobile plan. The company’s ‘Full Works for iPhone’ package will include the bonus starting on August 31, as well as a ‘Roam Abroad Pass’ for international roaming in Canada, the European Union, United States, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. EE has an alternative plan for Android devices with different benefits. Apple One is Apple’s all-in-one subscription service, which includes nearly all of Apple’s paid services. The base Individual and Family plans have Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 50 GB of iCloud storage, while the Premier plan adds Apple News+ and Fitness+. EE is only offering the … [Read more...] about Your Phone Plan Might Add iCloud, Apple Music, and More

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro Ongoing Review: Better Batteries, Bye Bezel
The Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are Samsung's latest wearables that want to be your go-to Android watch. Set for release on Aug. 26, along with the Galaxy Fold 4 and Flip 4 , they have bigger batteries, a new temperature sensor and a more durable design. But they lose the fan-favorite rotating bezel that the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic model still offers as an alternative to using a touch-sensitive rim. This year's watch comes in two variants : The Galaxy Watch 5 and a slightly larger, more rugged Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Apart from the construction, sports modes and battery capacity, they share most of the same features. So far, I haven't found that many significant differences warrant an upgrade from last year's Galaxy Watch 4 series given the software is largely unchanged and the new temperature sensor is not yet active. But the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is the more tempting proposition if you want a more durable watch with a bigger battery. With the Pixel Watch on the horizon and … [Read more...] about Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro Ongoing Review: Better Batteries, Bye Bezel
Windows 11 22H2 feature update could arrive as soon as September 20
Something to look forward to: Microsoft's next major Windows 11 release was expected for the second half of this year. Now it looks like version 22H2 is about a month away, with several new features and changes that have been undergoing testing in Insider builds. While some Windows components like the Start Menu, Task Manager, and the Taskbar are set to receive useful improvements with the 22H2 release, Microsoft is expected to roll out other enhancements as part of its "Moments" feature drop later this year. The first major feature update for Windows 11 is apparently arriving next month. According to Windows Central's Zac Bowden, there's nearly a dozen new notable additions and changes that will be accompanied by plenty of under the hood enhancements and bug fixes. In some areas, like the Start Menu and Taskbar, Microsoft is finally bringing Windows 11 up to par with the Windows 10 experience. For instance, the 22H2 update will allow users to create app folders in the Start … [Read more...] about Windows 11 22H2 feature update could arrive as soon as September 20
Apple is allegedly threatening to fire an employee over a viral TikTok video
Apple is allegedly threatening to fire an employee who posted a TikTok video with basic iPhone security tips. The employee, Paris Campbell, says she was told that she breached company policy by identifying herself as an Apple employee and posting about Apple-related topics. The company’s social media policy warns employees against posting about customers, colleagues, or confidential information — but Apple doesn’t specifically bar employees from posting about the technology entirely. “We want you to be yourself, but you should also be respectful in posts, tweets, and other online communications,” an internal document reads. @stopitparis #stitch with @Stella this is so out of my content niche ♬ Love You So - The King Khan & BBQ Show Campbell, a single mother living in New York, has worked at Apple for nearly six years, most recently as a repair technician in Apple retail. Last week, she responded to another TikTok user who’d lost her iPhone at Coachella, then … [Read more...] about Apple is allegedly threatening to fire an employee over a viral TikTok video
Apple unveils Lockdown Mode and takes iPhone security to the next level
Audio player loading… Apple's most powerful iPhone security setting ever, Lockdown Mode, is an unexpected addition to iOS 16 . The new security mode, which will also appear in macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16 , is not for everyone. In fact, you might argue it's for a select few: those who believe they could be targeted by state-sponsored cybersecurity attacks. In other words, this is software for the President of the United States. It might also be for the head of your local power authority, water treatment plant, or a journalist covering the war in Ukraine. And thanks to Apple, anyone with an iPhone, it seems. Lockdown Mode is Apple's new hardcore approach to security that, when enabled on an iPhone, will introduce five key protections, any one of which might make your iPhone less useful and fun, but also, apparently, a whole lot more secure. These protections include: Most message attachment types other than images are blocked and link previews are … [Read more...] about Apple unveils Lockdown Mode and takes iPhone security to the next level
China Boasts ‘Increasing Important Role’ in Propping up the Taliban
The Chinese state-run Global Times newspaper applauded its bosses on Tuesday for playing “an increasing important role” in helping the Taliban cement its stranglehold on Afghanistan through business ventures, particularly in pursuit of the country’s vast mineral wealth. The Taliban, a Sunni terrorist organization, seized control of the country a year ago on Monday as a result of leftist American President Joe Biden extending the 20-year Afghan war beyond the previous deadline of May 1, 2021. The group, which had previously agreed to negotiations with the U.S.-backed Afghan government, responded to Biden extending the war into September, and then walking back the deadline to August, by launching tens of thousands of attacks on the government and ultimately making it into Kabul. Then-President Ashraf Ghani, who insists he remains president of Afghanistan to this day, immediately fled the country upon the Taliban’s arrival in the capital. Taliban jihadists have struggled to … [Read more...] about China Boasts ‘Increasing Important Role’ in Propping up the Taliban
Apple’s iPhone 14 event will reportedly take place in early September
Apple is targeting a September 7th date for its next product launch event, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman . The company typically hosts a big event in the first part of September, and now we have a very likely date we can circle on the calendar. As with its other events that have taken place during the COVID-19 pandemic, the plan is for this event to be streamed online, Gurman reports. Apple is rumored to announce the iPhone 14 lineup at the show, which is expected to include: the base iPhone 14, a new big-screened iPhone 14, an iPhone 14 Pro, and an iPhone 14 Pro Max. The Pro phones may be getting some of the flashier upgrades, as they’re rumored to lose the notch in favor of a pill-shaped hole-punch cutout , gain an always-on display , and have the next-generation A-series processor . In past years, the iPhones revealed at the event have gone on sale shortly after — Gurman reports that store workers have been asked to prep for a launch of some kind on September 16th … [Read more...] about Apple’s iPhone 14 event will reportedly take place in early September
Urbanista brings solar-powered headphone tech to true wireless earbuds
Urbanista is following up its solar-powered over-ear headphones from last year with a pair of solar-powered true wireless earbuds called the Phoenix, the company officially announced today. Like the headphones, Phoenix uses Powerfoyle solar panels produced by Exeger to extend their battery life with power from the sun’s rays. But unlike the Los Angeles headphones that have solar panels built into the headband, the panels aren’t included on the Phoenix earbuds themselves. Instead, they’re built into the Phoenix charging case. The decision to shift the solar-charging tech to the charging case makes sense given the small size of the earbuds. But it’s likely to mean that users will have to make an effort to keep the solar panels directed at the sun. A headphone band on top of your head is going to be ideally placed to pick up the sun’s rays whenever you’re using them outside, for example, but most people tend to keep their earbuds’ charging case in their pocket or bag while … [Read more...] about Urbanista brings solar-powered headphone tech to true wireless earbuds
Chinese Web censorship may have claimed another victim: Apple News
This weekend, China's strict content and Internet laws may have claimed another service before it was even officially supported. The New York Times reports that Apple has disabled its new Apple News app in the region. Although China is Apple's second-largest market in terms of revenue, Apple News is currently only available in the US (it's also being tested in the UK and Australia). However, the Times notes phones registered in the US can still largely utilize Apple News when traveling. But when in China, users are now being met with a blank Apple News feed and an error message: "Can't refresh right now. News isn't supported in your current region." The NYT points to a Reddit thread from Larry Salibra, founder of Pay4Bug, bemoaning such errors even when pre-downloading Apple News content on a device. "They’re censoring news content that I downloaded and stored on my device purchased in the USA, before I even enter China just because my phone happens to connect to a … [Read more...] about Chinese Web censorship may have claimed another victim: Apple News
Google v. China: the Chinese government reacts
The Google/China story has enough legs to qualify as a "centipede" at this point. After saying that it would no longer censor Chinese search results and that it was ready to pull out of China, Google also admitted to being the victim of a sophisticated cyberattack that went after more than 30 companies. The immediate aftermath of the announcement was a media feeding frenzy—and that was before the Chinese government's various departments even began reacting to the news. Now that they have, it's clear that Google and China are on a collision course, and that the US government is ready to get involved on Google's side. If you've had difficulty keeping up with the story, have no fear: here's a roundup of the news you need to know. Twists, turns, and U-turns An inside job? It's little more than an anonymously sourced rumor at this point, but Reuters says that insiders from Google's own Chinese office may have been involved in the cyberattack on the company. Chinese sources … [Read more...] about Google v. China: the Chinese government reacts
