Volkswagen’s American division sells more SUVs and crossovers than ever before, a trend that reflects carbuyers’ ongoing shift toward high-riding models. In 2018, the Tiguan and the Atlas made up about 50 percent of VW’s sales. The brand expects that figure will keep growing as it continues to add SUVs and crossovers to its lineup over the coming years. Volkswagen of America boss Scott Keogh told Digital Trends that a five-seat version of the Atlas will arrive during the first quarter of 2020. He stopped short of providing additional information about the car, but the German firm previewed it with the Atlas Cross Sport concept (pictured above) that it introduced at the 2018 New York Auto Show. When it arrives, the yet-unnamed model will compete in the same hotly contested segment as the born-again Honda Passport and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. At the other end of the spectrum, Volkswagen is preparing a crossover positioned below the Tiguan, which got bigger as … [Read more...] about Volkswagen plans more SUVs — and you might be able to subscribe to them

The high-performance SUV segment is booming, and it’s no longer off-limits to mainstream brands. Volkswagen will throw its hat in the ring when it unveils the fire-breathing T-Roc R at the 2019 Geneva Auto Show. It’s a taller, more spacious alternative to the Golf R that packs a similar punch. Starting with a T-Roc, a sub-Tiguan model developed primarily for the European market, Volkswagen’s performance wizards added a deeper front bumper with larger vents to direct more cooling air into the engine bay, and flared fenders to fit larger tires. The sketch released by the firm suggests the R rides lower than the regular T-Roc, which indicates the sheet metal hides substantial suspension modifications. The R’s flagship role in the T-Roc range will ensure it receives the latest tech features. We expect to see a driver-configurable digital instrument cluster, and a large, high-resolution touchscreen on the center console for the infotainment system. Volkswagen's small SUV game is strong in its native Europe and to make it even stronger, it announced on Wednesday that a new T Roc R model is coming to the Geneva Motor Show. What exactly is a T Roc? Well, fellow American, your puzzlement isn't anything to be ashamed of. The T Roc is a small crossover, sized below the Tiguan, which Volkswagen sells mostly in Europe and China. In those markets, its rivals would include the Nissan Kicks, the Hyundai Kona and the Ford Ecosport. The T Roc R will likely differ from its more pedestrian siblings in a number of ways. According to Volkswagen's press materials, this R model will feature increased performance and was tuned on the Nurburgring by the likes of Petter Solberg. The render that VW released shows it to feature some of the styling cues that we've seen in the Golf R. It's aggressive, but subdued. No crazy aero vents or massive wings here.Volkswagen makes no mention of the T Roc R's expected price nor when it is expected to go on sale. … [Read more...] about Volkswagen’s T Roc R will debut in Geneva, packing hot hatch vibes
If you thought Volkswagen had enough crossovers and SUVs in its line, you'd be wrong. After all, as Volkswagen said in a statement on Thursday, the automaker expects fully half of its sales will "probably be an SUV" by 2025. With that in mind, it's perhaps no surprise to see VW reveal another model, the T-Cross.At 161.8 inches in length, the VW T-Cross is even smaller than the T-Roc. Related to the Polo subcompact, the T-Cross is thus more than half a foot shorter than, say, the Nissan Kicks. It wears the same upright stance and boxy design cues as other new VW crossovers. Despite its small exterior dimensions, VW promises the interior will be impressive, with a back seat that can slide fore and aft by 5.5 inches for long-legged passengers, and up to 16.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity available.European shoppers will have four powertrain choices. There are two versions of a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with either 94 or 113 horsepower, a 1.5-liter turbo-four with 148 hp and a … [Read more...] about Volkswagen T-Cross small crossover revealed in Europe
