PlayStation Vue is raising prices. The Sony-owned live video streaming service on Monday announced a $5 monthly price hike, which applies to all packages (Access, Core, Elite, and Ultra). "With costs rising each year for content, we constantly evaluate each deal to ensure we continue to deliver the content you want while considering the overall value of each package," PS Vue Vice President and General Manager Dwayne Benefield wrote in a blog post. "After reviewing this, we have made the decision to raise the price of all of our multi-channel plans by $5." That brings the Access plan up to $49.99 a month, Core to $54.99 per month, Elite to $64.99 per month, and Ultra to $84.99 per month. The Access plan includes 50 live TV channels, Core adds a number of Sports channels, Elite features 100 channels and expands Core's coverage with the addition of dedicated movie channels like Epix Hits and FXM, and Ultra includes everything in Elite along with HBO and Showtime. Fully driverless cars could be months away
Real driverless cars could come to the Phoenix area this year, according to a Monday report from The Information's Amir Efrati. Two anonymous sources have told Efrati that Google's self-driving car unit, Waymo, is preparing to launch "a commercial ride-sharing service powered by self-driving vehicles with no human 'safety' drivers as soon as this fall." Obviously, there's no guarantee that Waymo will hit this ambitious target. But it's a sign that Waymo believes its technology is very close to being ready for commercial use. And it suggests that Waymo is likely to introduce a fully driverless car network in 2018 if it doesn't do so in the remaining months of 2017. Waymo plans to launch first in the Phoenix suburbs Efrati reports that Waymo CEO John Krafcik faces pressure from his boss, Google co-founder and Alphabet CEO Larry Page, to transform Waymo's impressive self-driving technology into a shipping product. Pixel 4 Update to Add Option to Only Unlock When Your Eyes Open
Last week it was discovered that the forthcoming Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones have a serious security flaw. The Face Unlock feature works even when a user's eyes are closed, opening the way for someone else to unlock your phone by pointing it at your sleeping (or unconscious) face. At the time, Google confirmed this was a feature, not a bug, and that "Pixel 4 Face Unlock meets the security requirements as a strong biometric." However, as Thurrott reports, the coverage of this security shortfall, especially considering Apple requires eyes be open for Face ID, has triggered a statement from Google attempting to clear up the situation and put potential Pixel 4 purchasers at ease. In the statement, Google explains, "We've been working on an option for users to require their eyes to be open to unlock the phone, which will be delivered in a software update in the coming months ... In the meantime, if any Pixel 4 users are concerned that someone may take their phone and try to unlock it … [Read more...] about Pixel 4 Update to Add Option to Only Unlock When Your Eyes Open
Alexa Makes it Easier to Find The Perfect Playlist
Need a new playlist for your holiday party? Amazon's Alexa can help. Prime Music and Amazon Music Unlimited customers in the US can now have a conversation with the virtual assistant to receive personalized music and playlist recommendations, Amazon announced on Thursday. To try it out, just say "Alexa, help me find a holiday playlist," "Alexa, help me find dinner music," or "Alexa, help me find a playlist," and the digital helper will ask some follow-up questions about the occasion, genre, tempo, or mood you're after to get a better idea of what to play. This feature is available now on Echo smart speakers and displays, and also in the Amazon Music app for iOS and Android. In the near future, Alexa will also be able to respond similarly to requests and questions such as "recommend some new music" or "what should I play?" "By using cues from your previous listening habits, and asking a few simple questions regarding your favorite genres, eras, and other preferences, Alexa will be able … [Read more...] about Alexa Makes it Easier to Find The Perfect Playlist
