Qualcomm’s new wireless AR glasses might actually be comfortable to wear

May 20, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… Qualcomm revealed the latest rendition of its pair of augmented reality glasses, the awkwardly named Wireless AR Smart Viewer Reference Design . This name will probably change when the glasses are officially launched as the Smart Viewer is currently still in the prototype stage. Previous iterations of the glasses had to be connected to a smartphone via USB cable. Over time, the design has been refined so that Smart Viewer is now wireless thanks to the FastConnect 6900 System. It’s unknown just how much of the old software or user interface will make it onto the new Smart Viewer. An old trailer showed the Smart Viewer’s UI having floating menus decorated with popular apps and category tabs on the left-hand side. But Qualcomm did share some of the Smart Viewer’s new hardware. Hardware specs The glasses were designed by Chinese tech company Goertek, the same company working on the PSVR 2 . Qualcomm claims that Goertek’s new design is … [Read more...] about Qualcomm’s new wireless AR glasses might actually be comfortable to wear

Researchers in China say country must develop ways to destroy Starlink satellites

May 27, 2022 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

WTF?! Chinese military researchers are concerned about the potential threat posed by Space X's Starlink satellites and have urged the country to develop ways of destroying or disabling them. The news comes soon after CEO Elon Musk was threatened by the head of Russian space agency Roscosmos over the Starlink terminals that have been sent to help Ukraine. PCMag reports that China's Modern Defence Technology journal published a paper last month warning of the potential dangers posed by Starlink satellites. The study was led by Ren Yuanzhen, a researcher with the Beijing Institute of Tracking and Telecommunications under the PLA's Strategic Support Force, and was co-authored by several senior scientists in China's defense industry, writes the SCMP . "While [Starlink] is booming and also because of its huge comprehensive application potential, it has brought hidden dangers and challenges to our country," the paper reads. "A combination of soft and hard kill methods should be … [Read more...] about Researchers in China say country must develop ways to destroy Starlink satellites

On most IndyCar teams, Simon Pagenaud would play the role of mentor. But when the 38-year-old French driver joined Meyer Shank Racing for the 2022 season, he paired with 47-year-old Helio Castroneves—fresh off his record-tying fourth Indianapolis 500 victory—to form one of the most experienced duos on the grid. "I definitely feel like the young guy, that's for sure!" Pagenaud told us. In advance of this weekend's 106th running of the Indianapolis 500, we spoke with the Meyer Shank duo about drafting dynamics, sports car experience, and the quest to make history. Ars: You two had immediate success this year in the International Motor Sports Association, winning the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Helio, what does Simon bring to the table, and what is your dynamic like as teammates? Castroneves: They should roll out the red carpet every time Simon and I walk in the room since we're so experienced—we've earned the respect. [laughs] Everyone has strengths, and Simon's is looking at all … [Read more...] about Drafting dynamics and good tactics: How to win the Indianapolis 500

F1 cars in 2026 will have less drag and no MGU-H, FIA says

The Formula 1 Commission met on Tuesday to decide the technical future of the sport, with some more potentially radical changes coming in 2026. Among the things we can look forward to are smaller cars that slip more easily through the air and less complicated hybrid engines, part of new engine rules designed to attract new manufacturers to the sport. Didn’t we just do this? The F1 cars that took to the track for preseason testing in Bahrain this year were built to take advantage of one of the sport's biggest technical rule changes in decades. As the importance of aerodynamics grew ever stronger throughout the '80s, '90s, and 2000s, the quality of racing declined due to the inability of one car to follow another through a corner at speed. This was due to how dependent an F1 car was on its front wing to generate downforce. If you reduce airflow over the front wing, like when following in the dirty wake of another car, downforce is reduced and you can't corner as quickly. So for … [Read more...] about F1 cars in 2026 will have less drag and no MGU-H, FIA says

This nasty browser-hijacking malware is becoming a serious threat

Audio player loading… The distribution of the ChromeLoader malware (opens in new tab) has spiked in recent months, turning a relative nuisance into a full-blown threat. Researchers from Red Canary have been tracking the malware for the past five months, and claim the threat has risen significantly. According to the research, the attackers are targeting both Windows and macOS users, distributing the malware via torrent files masquerading as cracks for software and games. They’re also using social media sites, such as Twitter, to promote the torrent links, sharing QR codes leading to the sites that host the malware. ChromeLoader malware The goal is to have the victims download the files themselves. For Windows targets, the files come in an .ISO archive which, when mounted with a virtual CD-ROM drive, displays an executive file posing as a crack or a keygen. Researchers are saying that its most likely filename is “CS_Installer.exe”. Once the … [Read more...] about This nasty browser-hijacking malware is becoming a serious threat
