Hands-On By Andrew O'Hara Saturday, May 12, 2018, 01:28 pm PT (04:28 pm ET) There is no shortage of weather apps on the App Store —we don't want to count how many we've tried. There are great ones, and WeatherKit is among them. You can't go wrong opting for Dark Sky, Weather Underground, or AccuWeather. They all have great features. There are so many different things that people require. Features like large amounts of data, several different live maps, extended forecasts, or instant precipitation alerts all appeal to different folks, in different ways.WeatherKit, or Aerium as it used to be called, is meant to be a general purpose weather app for everyone. It doesn't have quite as many features as some other apps do, but it is designed to present the information that you need, clearly, accurately, and with a beautiful layout.A walk through WeatherKit When the app is launched, the current weather is presented amid a large, simple gradient background alongside a bit of text … [Read more...] about Hands On: WeatherKit for iPhone and iPad is a beautiful forecasting app for everyone
Today s forecast
Today's weather apps are pretty darn good, aren't they? And the information they provide is so precise that you know at what time that pesky afternoon drizzle is going to start. However, not all of the applications available can do so with the accuracy promised by SkyMotion. While many alternatives can give you an hourly forecast, SkyMotion takes things up to the next level. Its makers claim that their app can predict weather changes down to the exact minute – it knows when it will start raining and at what time it will stop. Providing such precise forecast is done with the help of GPS positioning, so that the software knows exactly where the user is. Furthermore, you'll know specifically what's going to ruin that weekend football game you've been planning: rain, freezing rain, snow, or hail.Sounds like a pretty useful app, doesn't it? Well, before you download, keep in mind that SkyMotion works only across the United States and Canada, and some areas such as Hawaii (according to … [Read more...] about This app can give you a precise, minute-by-minute weather forecast
Today's introduction of The new iPad impressed research firm IHS. The firm says that thanks to the new iteration of the iPad, Apple will dominate the tablet market in 2012 by grabbing a 61% share of the tablet market. Part of the reason for Apple's success will be continued confusion amongst Android tablet manufacturers. While the Apple iPad owned 62% of the global tablet market in 2011, the entire market was much smaller last year with less competition from Android models. That makes the forecast 61% slice of the pie much more impressive for 2012. And because Apple has a knack for getting its fans to pay more for its devices, on a revenue basis Apple actually owns a bigger percentage of the tablet market. As an example of this, even though Apple's share of the global tablet slipped in Q4 to 57% from 64% in the third quarter, Apple owned a whopping 74% of the revenue in the world wide tablet market in the fourth quarter of last year.Rhoda Alexander, senior manager, tablet and monitor … [Read more...] about IHS impressed by The new iPad, cuts Android tablet forecasts
Morgan Stanley's tech analyst Katy Huberty made some changes today to her official estimates for Apple. She now expects iPhone revenue for fiscal year 2017 (which ends in late September 2017) to drop 3% from earlier forecasts. During the second half of this current fiscal year, consumers will most likely hold off on purchasing the iPhone until the new models are unveiled. Huberty also cut her Fiscal Year 2017 iPhone shipments by 7%, while hiking the average selling price by 4% thanks to higher pricing for the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. For the just completed December quarter, Huberty sees Apple shipping 75 million iPhone units, down from her previous forecast of 79 million. For the March quarter, the analyst cut her forecast also by 4 million handsets to 51 million units from 55 million. Things will start popping with the next gen iPhone models that should be unveiled during Apple's fiscal fourth quarter of 2017. We expect to see the Apple iPhone 7s, Apple iPhone 7s Plus and the premium Apple … [Read more...] about Morgan Stanley cuts estimate of 2017 iPhone shipments, adds to the 2018 forecast
Everyone has barely had enough time to recover from Black Friday. Now, today is Cyber Monday which means that you should be able to find a ton of products on sale online. As it turns out, shopping on mobile handsets and tablets was already extremely popular this past weekend; the top 100 stateside retailers as reported by Adobe Analytics rang up a record $7.9 billion in online sales during Black Friday and Thanksgiving. Sounds like retailers ended up with the larger half of the wishbone as those sales were up 17.9% year-over-year. Adobe says that today will set a new record for the most online sales on a single day in U.S. shopping history. Adobe predicts that $6.6 billion in merchandise will get rung up in cyberspace today, with the vast majority of sales being made on smartphones and tablets. Even though some stores offered gifts or last minute discounts to Black Friday shoppers who actually made an appearance inside a store, parking spots at shopping malls were plentiful as shoppers … [Read more...] about Mobile shopping expected to drive record online sales figures today for Cyber Monday in the U.S.
