Apple’s folding iPhone could automatically shut to protect itself from fumble fingers
Development on the foldable iPhone apparently continues as a recently discovered patent application suggests Apple is looking for a way to better protect its device from falls. Available on the website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (opens in new tab) , the application is called Self-Retracting Display Device And Techniques For Protecting Screen Using Drop Detection. Quite a mouthful, but it does succinctly describe how Apple may aim to minimize damage to the screen. As it’s described, the device will have some kind of sensor inside like an accelerometer. If it detects the iPhone is falling, the sensor will signal an “electronically adjustable latching mechanism” to quickly snap the phone shut. The application does hint the mechanism may not close all the way if the iPhone is too close to the ground leaving it partially open. But that’s fine as according to the patent, “even folding the display to an angle less [than] 180 degrees can [still] afford some … [Read more...] about Apple’s folding iPhone could automatically shut to protect itself from fumble fingers
BreachForums says it will shut down following owner’s arrest
It seems as if Breach Forums is going down with its captain, after all. The administrator that succeeded their now-arrested predecessor confirmed that they would be shutting the site down and starting from scratch. The decision was made after they suspected law enforcement accessed the founder’s device, practically compromising the entire operation. Last week, the FBI arrested a person suspected to be “Pompompurin”, the founder and super-admin of Breached Forums, an underground forum where hackers and cybercriminals shared intelligence, malware (opens in new tab) , and spoils of their craft. The person, legal name Conor Brian Fitzpatrick, is currently out on bail, pending trial. He has been accused of conspiracy to commit access device fraud. In the meantime, a person with the alias “Baphomet” took over the forums. The initial idea was to keep the site operational. However, in their final update on Telegram, Baphomet explained that someone accessed Pompompurin’s device and … [Read more...] about BreachForums says it will shut down following owner’s arrest
Waltz, Banks: West Point Cadets Forced to Participate in Pronoun Play
Two House Republican leaders are demanding answers from the West Point superintendent on a role-play exercise in which cadets were forced to participate focused on “understanding and respecting the pronouns people prefer.” House Armed Services Military Readiness Subcommittee Chairman Mike Waltz (FL) and Military Personnel Subcommittee Chairman Jim Banks (IN) said the role-play exercise centered around “misidentifying gender-neutral pronouns.” In a letter to Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland, they wrote: We recently obtained a document for training exercises during a ‘Dean’s Weekend’ at West Point that we feel disrupts and distracts from the education and training that is needed to shape our future military leaders. We also understand that these training courses were mandatory for all cadets, led by cadets, and supervised by faculty. … As Chairmen of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, and the Subcommittee on Military Personnel, we are concerned these … [Read more...] about Waltz, Banks: West Point Cadets Forced to Participate in Pronoun Play

Best Kodi XBMC streaming boxes of 2023: the best hardware for Kodi streaming
Kodi boxes, also known as Android TV boxes, are massively popular. The best models deliver 4K video to your TV and allow you unfettered access to audio and video streams of every format and service. If there's a better, more versatile piece of AV software out there, we've yet to see it. On top of giving you the capability to stream video and music files over a local network, the software also includes the ability to install add-ons to stream from almost any streaming service you could think of, including Amazon Prime Instant Video , Spotify and Netflix. One of the main selling points of Kodi is the fact that it’s supported by pretty much any platform you could think of, up to and including macOS, Android, Linux and Windows. The only real drawback we can think of is that Kodi doesn’t actually manufacture streaming boxes (no, the official Kodi Raspberry Pi case doesn't count), so you need to find your own device to run it on. Luckily, dozens of manufacturers the … [Read more...] about Best Kodi XBMC streaming boxes of 2023: the best hardware for Kodi streaming
