Veteran tech journalist Walt Mossberg had social media buzzing Monday by announcing he’s dumping Facebook and company-owned Instagram because he's "no longer comfortable" with the platform — particularly its lack of regulation. Facebook has come under fire for multiple data breaches, questionable use of personal information and profile manipulation by foreign actors, USA Today noted. "I am hardly the first person to quit Facebook and I am not urging anyone else to do so, or trying to spark some dump-Facebook movement," wrote Mossberg, who retired in 2016 after covering tech for the Wall Street Journal, ReCode and the Verge. He’s now writing a book about his years in tech, USA Today reported. "This is a decision I am making just for myself.
