Samsung SDS and Tech Mahindra will collaborate to expand the South Korean company's Nexledger platform, the companies have announced. The Indian IT consulting firm will offer the blockchain platform to its local market, it said. It will also take part in developing the Nexledger platform going forward. The two companies also have plans to commercialise various proof-of-concept versions of the Nexledger platform for it to be available in different industries and markets, they said.Samsung SDS commercialised Nexledger back in 2017 for enterprise use, but has largely only gained exposure in the US market so far. The finance and logistics sectors have been Samsung SDS's key targets, with the company partnering with the Netherlands' ABN AMRO Bank in 2018 to apply the platform in shipping logistics.Enterprise clients can choose from the Nexledger Consensus Algorithm, Hyperledger Fabric, or Ethereum as consensus algorithms when using the solution. Despite the tech sector’s massive growth and need for talent, its hiring practices have remained stagnant. The industry continues to see low numbers of women and minority employees. According to Reveal, opportunities for women and people of color narrow as they move up the ranks, though they widen for white men. As outlined in Reveal’s data, white men account for 39 percent of tech professionals, 47 percent of managers and 59 percent of executives. All tech companies in the United States will face a near constant need for software developers over the next decade. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts 24 percent growth in the industry by 2026, which is an even faster ascent than other tech-related career fields. But the traditional employment pipeline in Middle America — places like St. Louis, Fargo, and Milwaukee — isn’t producing nearly enough candidates for local organizations. Additionally, promising recent graduates are likely to be lured away to more vibrant tech hubs. The deck is stacked against Heartland companies. In order to compete in the future, they’ll have to hire tech employees at the same rate as companies with bigger talent pipelines and more resources to recruit and train candidates.
