tcs: TCS to rollout chip-based passports by the end of this year: What are e-passports and all that will change

Tata Consultancy Services ( TCS ) reportedly seems set to roll out chip-based e-passports by the end of the year. According to a report in Economic Times (ET), TCS is also setting up a new command and control centre with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as well as new data centre to support the backend requirements of the project. Earlier this year, the ministry renewed its 10-year PSK deal worth over Rs 6,000 crore with TCS. This is part of the second phase of the passport project that the company bagged from the government. tcs: Mcap of 9 out of top 10 valued companies increases by Rs 2.51 lakh crore, with TCS leading the gainers

Nine of the 10 most valued firms added Rs 2.51 lakh crore to their market valuation last week, with Tata Consultancy Services emerging as the biggest gainer. The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 1,367 points or 2.66 percent. HDFC Bank , Infosys , Hindustan Unilever Limited and ICICI Bank were among the gainers while Reliance Industries was the sole loser in the pack. Tata Consultancy Services ( TCS ) added Rs 74,534.87 crore to its market valuation which stood at Rs 12,04,907.32 crore at close on Friday. The market capitalisation (mcap) of Hindustan Unilever jumped by Rs 44,888.95 crore to Rs 5,41,240.10 crore. HDFC Bank's valuation rose by Rs 35,427.18 crore to Rs 7,51,800.31 crore and that of HDFC's by Rs 24,747.87 crore to Rs 3,97,190.50 crore. The market valuation of Infosys climbed Rs 22,888.49 crore to Rs 6,06,734.50 crore and that of ICICI Bank went up by Rs 17,813.78 crore to Rs 4,96,354.36 crore. The spotlight is on unlawful terminations in the country, experts said, after a Chennai labour court recently asked Tata Consultancy Services ( TCS ) to reinstate with back wages an employee who was asked to leave over seven years ago. This case, they added, may be used as a reference point in future whenever there are mass layoffs or performance-related unlawful terminations of employees. “Awareness of workers' rights keeps increasing as we come across more judgments of similar nature. As this order involves one of the largest Indian IT companies, it will create an impact on the industry with respect to employment termination cases,” said Vikram Shroff, head, human resource laws (employment and labour) at Nishith Desai Associates. “The definition of workman under the law is fairly wide and does not change under the new labour codes.
