Best Prepaid Home Internet Plans for 2023

December 24, 2022 by www.cnet.com Leave a Comment

Between the credit checks, contracts, monthly equipment fees and other hassles, setting up your home internet can be a serious headache. So if you're looking for an easier way to get connected, a prepaid internet plan may be your best option. Prepaid internet plans are separate from a provider's standard plans and often come with easy enrollment conditions -- no credit checks, minimal or no upfront costs, no contract requirements -- and straightforward, pay-as-you-go pricing. Shopping for a faster internet speed? We’ll send you the fastest internet options, so you don’t have to find them. Prepaid internet is also separate from low-income internet plans , in that there are no qualifications to sign up. The lack of high speeds and overall value are often a drawback to prepaid internet (aside from Verizon Fios; more on that below), but you may consider slower speeds a fair trade for simple, cheap internet service . Considering the continued … [Read more...] about Best Prepaid Home Internet Plans for 2023

6.4 Nomad Internet Like Unlimited data No contracts required Freedom to connect just about anywhere in the US Don't Like High upfront costs Competitive rates for rural internet, but pricier than cable or fiber Internet speeds are not guaranteed Nomad Internet , which launched as an internet service provider in 2017, welcomed 2023 by announcing new plans, a spiffy new mobile app and a press release touting it as the largest national rural wireless internet service provider in the US . How it came upon that proclamation is unclear. T-Mobile Home Internet , another national WISP that made a lot of noise in 2022, has more total customers (over 2 million) and touts that 35% of its total availability is in rural areas (though granted, that doesn't mean that 35% of its customers are in rural locations). We reached out to Nomad Internet for further clarity on the claim but have yet to hear back … [Read more...] about Nomad Internet Review: No Strings Attached With This Wireless, Cellular Setup

Best DSL Internet Providers of 2023

January 22, 2023 by www.cnet.com Leave a Comment

With the constant need for internet, you are likely to go through the hassle of finding an internet provider and hoping you get good service after you've already agreed to pay them. It can be very stressful. If what you're looking for is a phone line-based DSL service, there's a good chance you have at least a couple options available to you. DSL is an excellent option for rural areas, and it doesn't come with a number of the problems that satellite service does -- high latency and strict data caps come to mind. Its price tag is often much cheaper as well. But if you choose DSL internet service because it's cheap and readily available, be prepared for underwhelming speeds. While some DSL providers are capable of delivering an internet speed that rivals the low end of cable and fiber-optic connections , less than half of households have access to DSL internet speeds that would actually qualify as broadband internet (25Mbps download, 3Mbps upload). Speeds aren't likely to improve … [Read more...] about Best DSL Internet Providers of 2023

Android 13 reaches five percent of Android devices in five months

January 20, 2023 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

The big picture: Android 13 made its debut on the distribution charts this month. While Google has made it somewhat more difficult to track changes in version market share in recent years, its latest OS seems to be enjoying a healthy start thanks to platform partners. Google's latest chart showing the distribution of Android versions across devices is the first since it released Android 13 last August. The company's latest mobile operating system is already on just over five percent of Android phones. Version 12 also increased its share in the last five months. Originally, Google periodically and publicly released its data comparing Android version market share to inform developers deciding which versions their software should target. However, in 2018, the company restricted that information to its internal development platform, where the updates became irregular. Since 2020, 9to5Google has accessed the updates and released them through AndroidDistribution.io . Another element … [Read more...] about Android 13 reaches five percent of Android devices in five months

Booked for Brilliance: Sweden’s National Library Turns Page to AI to Parse Centuries of Data

January 23, 2023 by blogs.nvidia.com Leave a Comment

For the past 500 years, the National Library of Sweden has collected virtually every word published in Swedish, from priceless medieval manuscripts to present-day pizza menus. Thanks to a centuries-old law that requires a copy of everything published in Swedish to be submitted to the library — also known as Kungliga biblioteket, or KB — its collections span from the obvious to the obscure: books, newspapers, radio and TV broadcasts, internet content, Ph.D. dissertations, postcards, menus and video games. It’s a wildly diverse collection of nearly 26 petabytes of data, ideal for training state-of-the-art AI. “We can build state-of-the-art AI models for the Swedish language since we have the best data,” said Love Börjeson, director of KBLab, the library’s data lab. Using NVIDIA DGX systems , the group has developed more than two dozen open-source transformer models, available on Hugging Face . The models, downloaded by up to 200,000 developers per month, enable research at … [Read more...] about Booked for Brilliance: Sweden’s National Library Turns Page to AI to Parse Centuries of Data
