In the era of ZL1s, Hellcats, and ZR1s, Ford is undeniably late to the high-performance party. After its initial debut in 2015, the sixth-generation Mustang has added a number of performance iterations to the roster, like the track-focused Shelby GT350 and GT350R, as well as the more budget-friendly Performance Pack 2 options package for the standard GT and the Bullitt special edition. While every one of those hopped-up ponies is a solid performer in its own right, none have the sheer grunt required to go toe-to-toe with the most potent hardware coming out of Dodge and Chevrolet factories. After years of teasing the Ford faithful, the company finally took the wraps off its response at the North American International Auto Show earlier this year. But while the GT500 looks promising, it still has yet to land in Ford’s showroom. And when it does, it will lack an option that all of the GT500’s direct competitors offer: A manual gearbox. Another option For those who are … [Read more...] about 2019 Roush Stage 3 Mustang Review

Editorial By Daniel Eran Dilger Monday, October 29, 2018, 09:40 am PT (12:40 pm ET) After the commodity consumer tech industry collectively made a huge, wildly premature series of bets on Virtual Reality headgear, it turned out the most commercially successful new product category in Augmented Reality was an audio device for your ears, rather than a way to superimpose graphics on your vision. Here's what's next for AirPods and why Apple's product development—and special event introductions—are so different from others in the industry.Apple's "More in the making" event at Brooklyn's Howard Gilman Opera House Apple's October 30 "There's more in the making" event appears to be focused on new iPad and Mac models, but may also introduce a newly refreshed version of the company's popular AirPods. We actually know less about what Apple will release than previous events, largely because Apple is increasingly doubling down on security and creating more of its "magic" internally … [Read more...] about AirPods, Apple’s vertical integration and the future of wearable AR
BMW's X7 SUV has been a long time in the making. But when it goes on sale early next year, it'll enter a fiercely competitive segment of full-size luxury SUVs.The way we see it, the X7's main competitors will be its German rivals, the Mercedes-Benz GLS and Audi's tried-and-true Q7. All three can seat seven passengers, so you can pack the rest of your well-heeled brood in there for a family outing. We also expect that the X7 will have to face off against the granddaddies of the full-size luxury SUV world: the Range Rover and Lincoln's Navigator. Some of the most significant differences between our five SUVs come in the form of engine choices. Of the five vehicles, only Mercedes offers a true performance-focused variant, the GLS63, though the Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic comes close. BMW offers a turbocharged V8 in its X7 xDrive50i and Mercedes' GLS can be had with a twin-turbo V8 as well. Audi's most potent engine choice in the Q7 is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, an engine … [Read more...] about 2019 BMW X7: How does it compare to its rivals?
Things started off fast with our long-term 2018 Ford Mustang GT. Three days after the Magnetic Metallic coupe showed up on our doorstep, I was at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan, thrashing it around to break the ice on our two-month-long relationship. The slightly longer commitment was fitting and welcome, especially given the Mustang's noteworthy 2018 performance updates. This year brought a more powerful engine, available adaptive suspension and new 10-speed automatic transmission. Admittedly, only the engine and suspension improvements excited me, but I approached the gearbox with an open mind and hoped to be pleasantly surprised.Road course stallionAs expected, the revised Coyote 5.0-liter V8 was sensational around GingerMan. Output was increased to 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque -- gains of 25 and 20 respectively, over the 2017 Mustang. Immediate throttle response and linear power delivery shoved the Mustang out of corners and down straights with authority. … [Read more...] about 2018 Ford Mustang GT long-term review: A lot to love and a little to hate
The Ford Edge may now wear an ST badge, but this isn't the first time we've seen a hotter version of the Blue Oval's five-passenger SUV. The Edge Sport has been with us for a number of years, packing a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 with 315 horsepower, a firmer suspension, larger wheels and other styling tweaks to help set it apart from lesser models. The Edge Sport goes away for 2019; the new ST simply takes its place. At first glance, the Edge ST might not seem all that different from the Sport. It uses the same 2.7-liter engine, has similar suspension upgrades and receives an appropriate set of sporty appearance modifications. But Ford claims some 75 percent of the ST's parts are unique to this specific model. And indeed, the devil is in the details.Becoming the STFor starters, the ST gets an exclusive front fascia with a larger mesh grille that improves cooling. Bigger side sills and special dual exhaust outlets offer sporty touches on the Edge's sides and rear, and the crossover rides on … [Read more...] about 2019 Ford Edge ST first drive review: Potent and practical
