Hyundai’s new electric car has a solar panel roof and can charge other EVs

· February 23, 2021 ·

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been officially announced, and this fully electric, mid-size CUV (crossover SUV) comes with a raft of tech as standard – and even more as options, including solar panels on its roof. Originally seen at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show as the 45 EV concept, the car had seen a few design tweaks to get it to its current form – the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Its distinctive angular shape is a throwback to the firm's first mass-produced car, the 1974 Pony, and boasts huge 20-inch wheels, a clam-shell hood and eye-catching pixel lights on the front, plus dot matrix lights on the rear. Renault Zoe : a zippy electric car made for the city Hyundai Kona Electric : an EV that will keep the family entertained Audi e-tron : driving the first all-electric Audi The V-shaped panel below the front lights also illuminates, although you wouldn't know it when the lights are off. The chrome panel is covered in micro perforations, which allow light through when on, but looks … [Read more...] about Hyundai’s new electric car has a solar panel roof and can charge other EVs

Sonam Wangchuk’s latest creation is a solar-heated military tent for hill warfare

· February 28, 2021 ·

High altitude warfare comes with its own set of challenges. More than ammunition, the early priority is battling the freezing temperatures and thin air. Battalions are required to carry heavy winter gears along with tents apart from regular supplies. Not to forget, the huge amount of kerosene required mainly for heating. The cost, labour and logistics are huge, especially at remote hilly terrains. Keeping this in mind, Ladakh-based engineer Sonam Wangchuk has introduced his indigenous innovation: solar heated tents that offer easy mobility. What’s interesting is that these tents do not use any solar panels or batteries to provide heating. The innovation focuses entirely on trapping the heat from the sun during the day on a “heat bank wall” so that inside the tent it remains warm during the night. These tents rely on efficient insulation and it is important to align them as per the direction of sunrise and sunset. Inside the tent, a comfortable 12 to 25 degrees Celsius is claimed … [Read more...] about Sonam Wangchuk’s latest creation is a solar-heated military tent for hill warfare

Tesla’s next business: Turning your solar roof and EV into Bitcoin mines

· February 17, 2021 ·

In my previous post about blockchain and cryptocurrency , I discussed why I thought Tesla was making such a substantial investment in Bitcoin and allowing the cryptocurrency to be used for car purchases in the future. The balance of its revenue stream, which comes from selling surplus Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), will dry up in the next several years as competing automakers can produce their own Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) and build up their own RECs with states that require them. executive guide Cryptocurrency 101: What every business needs to know There’s promise and peril in the still-evolving world of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ether. Read More Allowing its customers to purchase vehicles entirely or partially with Bitcoin is potentially one way of differentiating Tesla from other auto manufacturers. But this in and of itself is not a sustainable business strategy. Perhaps Elon Musk has another, even wilder business plan for Tesla … [Read more...] about Tesla’s next business: Turning your solar roof and EV into Bitcoin mines

California Prepares for Solar Power Loss During the Great Eclipse

· June 8, 2017 ·

A total solar eclipse that will sweep across the United States on Aug. 21 is expected to make a noticeable dent in solar-energy collection, prompting energy workers to concoct workarounds that will help them meet energy demands while the eclipse passes overhead.Utility workers already have a game plan in California, where 9 percent of electricity came from utility-scale solar plants in 2016.  During the eclipse, when the sun disappears behind the moon, power grid workers plan to ramp up energy output from other sources, including from hydroelectricity and natural gas, and then quickly reintroduce solar power as the sun reappears. In all, California's residents shouldn't notice a difference in their power supply during the duration of the eclipse, said Steven Greenlee, a spokesman for California Independent System Operator (ISO), a nonprofit that manages California's power grid. Chris Wedel 22 Feb 2021 1 Source: Chris Wedel/Android Central Update, February 2021: Anker Powerhouse II 400 review, 4 months later This summer, my family and I started doing a lot of camping, and so when I was asked to do an Anker Powerhouse II 400 review, I couldn't have been more excited. While high capacity portable chargers are becoming more ubiquitous these days, even the best battery packs won't match a capacity equalling 108,000mAh or have the flexibility of ports. The Powerhouse II 400 is a 300W, or 388.8Wh, charging station that can power up to eight devices at once with various charging ports — including a DC car socket, 110V AC plug, and of course, USB ports. I have used Powerhouse to charge my laptop and phones, run a fan, even keep a powered cooler running … [Read more...] about Anker Powerhouse II 400 Review, 4 months later: Finding more uses for this pricey powerhouse
