musk: From 7,500 employees to just 1,300: The Elon Musk ‘effect’ at Twitter

January 21, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

October 28 was the day when Elon Musk officially became the new owner of Twitter . Since then there have been wholesale changes — none bigger than the number of people that work at Twitter. According to a report by CNBC, Twitter now has just 1,300 full-time employees. Twitter 2.0: Drastic reduction in headcount The report says that before Musk bought Twitter, the total headcount was 7,500. Twitter now has less than 550 engineers working for it. Twitter’s trust and safety team — responsible for keeping users ‘safe’ — now has less than 20 full-time employees working. Interestingly, the report mentions that internal records suggest that Twitter still has 1,400 ‘non-working’ employees. These are employees who continue to be paid by Twitter but don’t execute their responsibilities. The report suggests many of these non-working employees are those who resigned when Musk asked them to sign a pledge, which involved “extreme hardcore” work and long working hours at … [Read more...] about musk: From 7,500 employees to just 1,300: The Elon Musk ‘effect’ at Twitter

musk: Here’s why Elon Musk changed his name to Mr Tweet

January 27, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

Elon Musk bought Twitter in October last year and since his acquisition, he has been addressed by multiple names, including “Chief Twit”, and “Twitter boss” among others. The billionaire recently changed his name to Mr Tweet and tweeted that Twitter is not letting him change his name, meaning he could be stuck with that name – at least for a while. “Changed my name to Mr Tweet, now Twitter won’t let me change it back,” he tweeted. This is probably due to a rule change according to which, users who were verified under Twitter's legacy policy won’t be able to change their display names on the app. The rule was aimed at preventing impersonation after Twitter's paid verification rollout was followed by impersonations of various brands and public figures. faa: SpaceX project clears US FAA environmental review

June 14, 2022 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

WASHINGTON: The Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ) approved a final environmental assessment of the proposed SpaceX Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket program in Boca Chica, Texas after requiring more than 75 conditions. The FAA published a finding of "No Significant Impact" but is placing some limitations on launches and requiring steps to limit environmental impacts, the agency said, clearing a hurdle for the program. "One step closer to the first orbital flight test of Starship," SpaceX tweeted soon after the decision. The FAA noted completing the environmental review does not guarantee issuance of a vehicle operator license, which is contingent upon meeting FAA requirements for safety, risk, and financial responsibility. The FAA said as a result of the requirements, there will be more advanced notice of launches to reduce a highway closure during launch operations. Launches will not be allowed on 18 identified holidays, and are … [Read more...] about faa: SpaceX project clears US FAA environmental review

Elon Wins in Court: Laid Off Twitter Workers’ Class Action Lawsuit Is Dismissed

January 16, 2023 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Five former Twitter employees have been forced to drop a class-action lawsuit against Elon Musk’s company due to previously signing arbitration agreements. The claims of several employees who did not sign the agreement will continue, and the lawyer representing employees vows a wave of arbitration cases against Musk’s company, explaining, “Mass arbitrations are incredibly costly for companies to defend and many employers have found themselves sorry about what they wished for when they insisted that employees would have to pursue their claims one by one.” Business Insider reports that five former Twitter employees who were laid off after Elon Musk took control of the company have had their class-action lawsuit against the company dismissed. The ex-employees signed arbitration agreements as part of their employment contracts with Twitter, which stated that they would file legal complaints against the company in arbitration rather than in court. The contracts also included a … [Read more...] about Elon Wins in Court: Laid Off Twitter Workers’ Class Action Lawsuit Is Dismissed

With $1.5 billion bill due at month-end, Elon Musk’s options aren’t great

January 17, 2023 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

The bill for Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter is coming due, with the billionaire facing unpalatable options on the company’s enormous debt pile, ranging from bankruptcy proceedings to another costly sale of Tesla shares. Three people close to the entrepreneur’s buyout of Twitter said the first installment of interest payments related to $13 billion of debt he used to fund the takeover could be due as soon as the end of January. That debt means the company must pay about $1.5 billion in annual interest payments. The Tesla and SpaceX chief financed his $44 billion deal to take Twitter private in October by securing the huge debt from a syndicate of banks led by Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Barclays, and Mitsubishi. The $13 billion debt is held by Twitter at a corporate level, with no personal guarantee by Musk. Since the takeover, Musk has raced to cut costs, such as firing half the company’s staff, while seeking new revenue streams, such as launching its Twitter Blue … [Read more...] about With $1.5 billion bill due at month-end, Elon Musk’s options aren’t great

SpaceX scrubs launch attempt, may try again Friday [Updated]

May 26, 2016 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Final update : Out of an "abundance of caution" SpaceX postponed its launch attempt Thursday evening. The company's founder, Elon Musk, tweeted that, "There was a tiny glitch in the motion of an upper stage engine actuator. Probably not a flight risk, but still worth investigating." The rocket will now launch no earlier than Friday evening, when the launch window opens again at 5:40pm ET. However the weather, with a tropical system developing off the coast, may become a bit of a concern. Update : SpaceX says its launch team is still "finalizing review of vehicle data and check outs," so the Falcon 9 will not launch tonight at the opening of the launch window, at 5:40pm ET. A new launch time has been set for 7:36pm ET, just four minutes before the launch window closes. The webcast below is not expected to begin until about 20 minutes before the rocket actually launches. Original story : Fresh off two straight launches and unprecedented water landings of its Falcon 9 … [Read more...] about SpaceX scrubs launch attempt, may try again Friday [Updated]

Musk testifies, claims tweet that judge ruled false was “absolutely truthful”

January 23, 2023 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Elon Musk spent a full day on the witness stand today to discuss the infamous "funding secured" tweets in which he claimed to have financial backing for a deal to take Tesla private. Judge Edward Chen already ruled that Musk's statements in August 2018 about having "funding secured" to take Tesla private were false "and that Mr. Musk recklessly made those representations." Chen told the jury they must assume the tweets were false but that they must also decide whether Musk knew the tweets were untrue and whether the tweets gave reasonable investors an impression of Tesla's situation that was different from reality. Today, Musk said the "funding secured" tweet was "absolutely truthful" and that he had received a verbal funding commitment at a meeting with Yasir Al-Rumayyan, managing director of the Saudi Arabia government's Public Investment Fund (PIF). "I felt we had a deal, and it was a done deal," Musk said. When plaintiff's attorney, Nicholas Porritt, asked Musk about … [Read more...] about Musk testifies, claims tweet that judge ruled false was “absolutely truthful”
