August 8, 2022 by www.howtogeek.com Leave a Comment

Following the release of Chrome 104 , Microsoft is now rolling out the same update for its Edge browser. Edge 104 includes an important security change, a new import option for Chrome, and more. RELATED: What's New in Chrome 104, Available Now Basic Security by Default Microsoft Edge has three security modes to choose from: Basic, Balanced, and Strict. Just like with Firefox’s privacy modes, moving up the levels can improve your web privacy and security, but can also break more sites or cause some unexpected behavior. Starting with Edge 105, Basic is now the default security option, instead of Balanced. Microsoft says this change “preserves the user experience for the most popular sites on the web.” Apparently, enough people were having issues on Balanced that downgrading the default option was the only way for everyone to start with a functional experience. If you already use Edge, the update won’t change your security settings — the new default should only apply … [Read more...] about What’s New in Microsoft Edge 104, Available Now

Report: Google looking to create an Android-based game console

June 27, 2013 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Details are still scarce, but the Wall Street Journal is citing "people familiar with the matter" in reporting that Google has plans to release an Android-based game console in the future. The Journal's sources say the move is a preemptive step against the persistently rumored ( but still not actually real ) Apple gaming console, which will supposedly be part of the next Apple TV release (it's always part of the next Apple TV, isn't it?). The console would also come as the market sees a glut of Android-based TV game consoles from other manufacturers, from the just-launched Ouya and the tiny Gamestick to the portable Nvidia Shield and the just-announced MadCatz Project M.O.J.O. Alongside the surprising game console plans, the WSJ also reports that Google has an Android-powered wristwatch and a new version of the announced-but-not-released Nexus Q in the pipeline. At least one of these products is planned for release this fall, according to the report. … [Read more...] about Report: Google looking to create an Android-based game console

Ahead of its October release date, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will available to play as part of two open beta weekends. According to Activision (opens in new tab) , the preview will let players try out a handful of maps, modes, and weapons, as well as other “innovations and surprises”. Several rewards can also be unlocked, which will carry over to the full game at launch. The first beta test will run from September 18 to September 20, but is only available to PS5 and PS4 players. If you pre-order the game on a PlayStation system, you’ll be able to dip in even earlier, on September 16. Activision has confirmed that you won’t need to have an active PS Plus subscription to take part. The second beta test runs from September 24 to September 26, and is open to … [Read more...] about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta dates are disappointing for Xbox players

Expect more crossover between Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus

August 8, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… The next game hitting PS Plus has been revealed, and suggests Sony’s subscription service may soon look closer to Xbox Game Pass. Ghost Recon Wildlands will be coming to PS Plus Extra and Premium later this month, as part of the service’s newly revamped on-demand game library. That’s according to Dealabs user billbil-kun (opens in new tab) , who has successfully leaked each new round of PS Plus titles for several months (thanks, Push Square (opens in new tab) ). The open-world tactical shooter sends you to Bolivia to take down a powerful drug cartel, and includes all the staple features you’d expect from a Ubisoft sandbox. While we don’t reckon it’s one of the best co-op games you could play, it does let you shoot your way through an expansive environment with up to three buddies. Playing catch-up Wildlands will be added to PS Plus as part of its Ubisoft+ Classics library – a selection of older Ubisoft titles available for all … [Read more...] about Expect more crossover between Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus

Oculus Quest 2 is getting a major price hike so it’s time to bring back the 64GB model

July 28, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… The Oculus Quest 2 is about to get a lot more expensive. Meta representatives informed us via a press release that from August 1, 2022, one of the best VR headsets out there is going to see its price jump up to $400 / £400 / AU$630 for the 128GB version (up from $299 / £299 / AU$479), and $500 / £500 / AU$790 for the 256GB model (instead of $399 / £399 / AU$639). That means if you want to grab the Oculus Quest 2 ( now officially the Meta Quest 2 ) before it sees a massive price hike you’ve only got a couple of days left. Meta has warned that the price increase will also impact the best Oculus Quest 2 accessories and refurbished units –  giving you even fewer reasons to hold off making a purchase if you've been on the fence. According to Meta, despite the incredible success its VR hardware has seen – with an estimated 15 million Quest 2 headsets being sold , and over $1 billion being spent on Meta Quest apps since launch – the … [Read more...] about Oculus Quest 2 is getting a major price hike so it’s time to bring back the 64GB model

Best standing desk for home office and WFH 2022

July 22, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

The best standing desks around today can help offset and prevent a sedentary lifestyle. The health benefits they offer to those of us who spend all day in front of our computers can’t be understated. We are not meant to sit around all day. Sitting down too long – more than 8 hours a day – as stated by the American Journal of Public Health (opens in new tab) , can not only increase the risk of chronic diseases by 10% to 20% but premature death as well. UK's NHS points out (opens in new tab) that it also could slow your metabolism, which could impact "the body's ability to regulate blood sugar, blood pressure and break down body fat." Unfortunately, most of us spend a large portion of our work life hunkered down at an office desk (opens in new tab) , which is why a standing desk is a great investment. Even students going back to school should consider one for a healthier way to do homework. To help you make the leap to a healthier work life, we’ve collected the best … [Read more...] about Best standing desk for home office and WFH 2022

While Punch-Out!! has been one of Nintendo's most beloved "fighting" series since its 1984 debut in arcades, it has rarely featured something common in the genre: a two-player mode. On Monday, however, that changed. The resulting discovery has been hiding in plain sight on the series' Super Nintendo edition for nearly 30 years. Should you own 1994's Super Punch-Out!! in any capacity—an original SNES cartridge, a dumped ROM parsed by an emulator, on the Super Nintendo Classic Edition , or even as part of the paid Nintendo Switch Online collection of retro games —you can immediately access the feature, no hacking or ROM editing required. All you need is a pair of gamepads. Finally, you can be the Mad Clown Credit goes to the coder responsible for the @new_cheats_news account on Twitter, which has routinely posted discoveries of leftover modes, menus, and gameplay features in classic games since 2014. Many of the account's findings require Game Genie codes or hex edits … [Read more...] about 28 years later,

Yes, it’s weird for the two-year-old Meta Quest 2 to go up in price

July 26, 2022 by www.theverge.com Leave a Comment

Meta just made the surprising announcement that it will be raising the price of its Quest 2 virtual reality headsets by $100 next month. If you did a double take upon seeing that news, we commiserate — it’s weird for a two-year-old consumer tech product to suddenly go up in price. We’re conditioned to expect the price of tech products to go down over time thanks to the relentless advancement of technology and more efficient manufacturing processes. But here, the same product you could buy in September 2020 will cost 33 percent more in August 2022. The official reason Meta is upping prices is that “the costs to make and ship our products have been on the rise,” according to a company blog post credited only to the “Oculus Blog.” “By adjusting the price of Quest 2, we can continue to grow our investment in groundbreaking research and new product development that pushes the VR industry to new heights.” Prices for a lot of things we cover here at The Verge have gone up in … [Read more...] about Yes, it’s weird for the two-year-old Meta Quest 2 to go up in price
