New-age Desi tech companies use cryptocurrency for pay, perks
CHENNAI: New-age tech companies are satiating their young workforce’s growing desire for digital money by using a workaround to pay either part of their salary, bonus or other incentives in cryptocurrency . For employers, this is a quick and easy transaction, while for employees the lure is the possibility of the crypto appreciating in value. There are two approaches taken by employers. One is to register their entities in crypto-friendly nations and pay their employees in cryptocurrency to avoid any legal or tax hurdles. The second is to record the payment as a rupee transaction in their books, but to facilitate the conversion of the rupee into cryptocurrency. An executive from a gateway company, which facilitates payments for cryptocurrency through banking channels, said, “Generally, we use a stable coin/cryptocurrency like Tether (USDt) to pay salaries. Employees can cash them out immediately or hold on to them.” Since Tether is pegged to the dollar, a systems … [Read more...] about New-age Desi tech companies use cryptocurrency for pay, perks
Scuba divers explore massive sinkhole at Australian beach
Scuba divers have explored inside the massive coastal sinkhole in Australia, releasing footage which shows the destruction beneath the water. The hole, which formed at Inskip Point near Fraser Island, Queensland, on Sunday, sucked in a car, camping trailer and caravan as the earth opened up. It is thought to be at least 3 metres deep and led to hundreds of people being evacuated from the region. According to Stephen Fityus , a professor in geotechnical engineering at the University of Newcastle, "it's very unlikely that the missing sand has been swallowed into some deep hole in the sea floor" but is more likely a landslide. Despite the dangerous situation, some Australians made the most of their new swimming hole while the scuba divers from Wolf Rock Dive set out to capture the unusual underwater scene and attempt … [Read more...] about Scuba divers explore massive sinkhole at Australian beach

Confessions of a Deadhead as the trip comes to an end
CHICAGO — It took nearly an hour just to pick out the T-shirts. There were scores, maybe hundreds, in the closet, in dresser drawers. Three last Grateful Dead shows and a mountain of shirts to choose from. It would have been nice to wear the 15th anniversary shirt from 1980 or the Long, Strange Trip shirt from 1981. But they seem to have shrunk in the last 35 years. Or… In the end, six shirts accompanied me here. I’ll decide later. I’m sure I’m not the only Deadhead similarly obsessed. This weekend is a big deal. A celebration of 50 years of musical history, a formal farewell and a time for fond memories of tours past and the band members who didn’t make it this far, Jerry, Pigpen, Brent, Keith. Growing up, I missed two opportunities to “get on the bus.” During high school my aunt passed on a copy of Workingman’s Dead . I listened to it once or twice before returning to the Rolling Stones. In 1974, I heard more about the Dead from friends in college. But by that time my … [Read more...] about Confessions of a Deadhead as the trip comes to an end
