Audio player loading… New details of Netflix’s anti-password sharing measures have appeared online, revealing how the platform plans to crack down on users. The newly found information was discovered on Netflix’s US Help Center and confirmed by The Streamable (opens in new tab) on January 31; however, that page has since been taken down. As of this writing, the Help Center has reverted back to its previous state. Fortunately, a copy of the rules can still be found on the Wayback Machine (opens in new tab) , a website that takes “screenshots” of the internet for the sake of posterity. According to the reports, “Netflix accounts are still shareable, but only within one household.” Anybody from outside your home won’t be able to use that account and will be told to create with their own. The platform will also require users to log into their Netflix account via their household’s Wi-Fi, open the app, and “watch something at least once every 31 days.” … [Read more...] about Netflix’s anti-password sharing will force you to sign in once a month – or get blocked

Too Hot to Handle: America Created 517,000 Jobs in January and Unemployment Fell to 3.4%
The U.S. economy added 517,000 jobs in January and the unemployment rate fell to 3.4 percent, the Labor Department said Friday. Economists had expected the economy to add 187,000 jobs and the unemployment rate to tick up to 3.6 percent. The range of forecasts by economists surveyed by Econoday was between a gain on payrolls of 150,000 to 260,000, a rather large range that suggests a higher level of uncertainty. On unemployment, the range of forecasts was 3.4 percent to 3.6 percent. The Labor Department’s Job Opening and Labor Turnover Survey, knowns as Jolts, showed that there were 11 million job openings at the end of December, around 1.9 vacancies for every unemployed person. Federal Reserve officials frequently cite the vacancy ratio as evidence that the labor market is so tight that it risks fueling inflation. In November, the preliminary report indicated the economy created 223,000 jobs, exceeding expectations for around 200,000. The unemployment rate was reported as … [Read more...] about Too Hot to Handle: America Created 517,000 Jobs in January and Unemployment Fell to 3.4%
Security researcher finds bug that may have allowed hackers to bypass Facebook’s 2FA
Meta created a centralised system to allow users to manage connected experiences like logging in across accounts on Facebook and Instagram . A security researcher has said a bug in this system, called Meta Accounts Center , may have allowed hackers to disable two-factor authentication (2FA) – a way that helps users to keep their social media accounts protected from unauthorised access. Gtm Mänôz, a security researcher from Nepal, said he reported a bug he found in the Meta Accounts Center in September last year. Bug in Meta Accounts Center Mänôz said that he found that Meta did not set up a limit to enter login code it sends via SMS as a part of the two-factor authentication process. As per the researcher, this bug would have allowed a hacker to bypass the authentication protections using brute force attacks. ChatGPT adds 100 million users in two months, making it the fastest-growing “app” ever
In brief: The recent rise in popularity of ChatGPT has been meteoric, to say the least. According to new analysis, the AI platform in January reached 100 million users following its launch on November 30, which makes it the fastest-growing consumer app in history, though the chatbot itself doesn't believe it should be classed as an app. According to analysis by Swiss bank UBS, the speed at which ChatGPT has added 100 million users makes it the fastest-growing consumer app in history— more than one million people were using the site within five days of its launch. Reuters notes that this puts it ahead of TikTok, which took nine months to reach 100 million users. Instagram, meanwhile, took two and half years to hit the same figure. You knew it was just a matter of time until we did this (extend the @MintMobile savings with @OpenAI , that is). pic.twitter.com/uf2jblpG2j — Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) January 10, 2023 However, when ZDNet asked ChatGPT if it … [Read more...] about ChatGPT adds 100 million users in two months, making it the fastest-growing “app” ever

Minnesota Bishop Robert Barron Slams ‘Barbaric’ Abortion Law
ROME — Bishop Robert Barron of Winona-Rochester has blasted a new Minnesota abortion law as “morally outrageous” and “the worst kind of barbarism.” In a video posted on social media, Bishop Barron described the bill signed this week by Democrat Gov. Tim Walz as “the most radical abortion law in the country” while calling on Americans to “stand against this barbarism.” Friends, there is a morally outrageous bill that has now been signed into law by @GovTimWalz . This bill is the most radical abortion law in the country. We must continue to stand against this barbarism. Joe Biden: ‘More than Half the Women in My Administration Are Women’
President Joe Biden delivered another word salad on Thursday when he proudly proclaimed, “More than half the women in my administration are women,” according to a video of his speech. “But here’s what matters: more than half the women in my cabinet, more than half the people, more than half the women in my administration are women,” Biden said : BIDEN: "More than half the women in my administration are women." pic.twitter.com/VAM3Udb3fx — Townhall.com (@townhallcom) February 2, 2023 Biden spoke at the White House to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Dorian Nakamoto, fingered as Bitcoin creator, wants to sue
In March, Newsweek came roaring back to the print world with a tech-themed cover story . The publication said it had discovered "the face behind Bitcoin"—an unemployed engineer living an unassuming life in a Los Angeles suburb. Within days of publication, critics began pointing out that the magazine's case that Dorian Nakamoto was actually Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto was based on circumstantial evidence . The 65-year-old Dorian Nakamoto, who has no background in cryptography at all, denied the story after it was published. Newsweek and author Leah McGrath Goodman did not apologize and instead doubled down on their thesis, putting out a statement that "the facts as reported point toward Mr. Nakamoto's role in the founding of Bitcoin." Further Reading The colossal arrogance of Newsweek ’s Bitcoin “scoop” Now, Nakamoto and his lawyer Ethan Kirschner have made clear they'd like to sue Newsweek over the story—but they need more money to do it. I watched Rian Johnson’s Poker Face on Peacock – and it’s nothing like Knives Out
Audio player loading… It's no secret that Peacock is the black sheep of the streaming family. While the likes of Netflix and Disney Plus possess extensive and excellent back catalogs, Peacock's lack of top-tier originals has seen audiences shun it in favor of its more popular cousins. Now, though, NBC Universal's streamer has a truly fantastic TV show to rival its peers: Poker Face . The brainchild of Rian Johnson ( Knives Out , Star Wars ), Poker Face is an sensationally good comedy detective series that'll do more than fill the Knives Out -shaped void in your life . In fact, I'd go as far to say it's the best Peacock show of all-time – and one that'll convince you to finally sign up for the service. The truth is out there Poker Face stars Natasha Lyonne ( Russian Doll ) as Charlie Cale, a drifter who possesses the seemingly supernatural ability to detect lies. Or, in Cale's catchphrase-like terms, when a person "bullshits" her. When … [Read more...] about I watched Rian Johnson’s Poker Face on Peacock – and it’s nothing like Knives Out
