Immortality may be as far as just seven years away. According to former Google scientist Ray Kurzweil , humans will attain immortality with the help of nanorobots in just seven years. Kurzweil has made the claim in a YouTube video posted by tech vlogger Adagio where he discussed expansion in genetics, nanotechnology, robotics and more. In the two-part video interview, the scientist emphasised his claim made in the 2005 book 'The Singularity Is Near' where he predicted that technology will allow humans to enjoy an everlasting life by 2030. “2029 is the consistent date I have predicted for when an AI will pass a valid [Alan] Turing test,” Kurzweil reportedly told Futurism in 2017 — referring to experiments that challenge computers to think like us — “and therefore achieve human levels of intelligence.” According to a report in NewYork Post , he further said, “I have set the date 2045 for the ‘Singularity’ which is when we will multiply our effective intelligence a … [Read more...] about Nanobots to help humans attain immortality by 2030, claims Google scientist

GM kills more than CarPlay support, it kills choice

A long while back, Toyota told me it didn't want to give up interior real estate to Apple’s CarPlay. The automaker felt that losing that space to the tech company would be a huge mistake. Fast forward a few years, and after what I assume were some internal struggles, it caved and now you can get CarPlay and Android Auto on your fancy new Highlander, Prius, Tacoma, or Camry. It seemed like a silly decision had been reversed. Now it’s GM’s turn to go down the same path. Today, news dropped that GM would be phasing out CarPlay support in future EVs . In its partnership with Google, it hopes that all the features you get from mirroring your iPhone can be replaced with an Android Automotive feature . GM, like Toyota before it, wants to control the digital real estate in its vehicles. It’s a revenue-based and walled-garden (ironically against Apple) decision that will cost them. Software-driven vehicles should be about choice. Instead, GM is making a short-sighted decision based on a … [Read more...] about GM kills more than CarPlay support, it kills choice

These angry Dutch farmers really hate Microsoft

March 31, 2023 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

As soon as Lars Ruiter steps out of his car, he is confronted by a Microsoft security guard, who is already seething with anger. Ruiter, a local councillor, has parked in the rain outside a half-finished Microsoft data center that rises out of the flat North Holland farmland. He wants to see the construction site. The guard, who recognizes Ruiter from a previous visit when he brought a TV crew here, says that’s not allowed. Within minutes, the argument has escalated, and the guard has his hand around Ruiter’s throat. The security guard lets go of Ruiter within a few seconds, and the councillor escapes with a red mark across his neck. Back in his car, Ruiter insists he’s fine. But his hands shake when he tries to change gears. He says the altercation—which he will later report to the police—shows the fog of secrecy that surrounds the Netherlands’ expanding data center business. The heated exchange between Ruiter and Microsoft’s security guard shows how contentious Big Tech’s … [Read more...] about These angry Dutch farmers really hate Microsoft

And now the company is working on fusing this fast-moving, sometimes unsettling new technology with some old headaches: ads. Further Reading The newest feature in the Microsoft Store is more ads In a blog post earlier this week , Microsoft VP Yusuf Mehdi said the company was "exploring placing ads in the chat experience," one of several things the company is doing "to share the ad revenue with partners whose content contributed to the chat response." The company is also looking into ways to let Bing Chat show sources for its work, sort of like the ways Google, Bing, and other search engines display a source link below snippets of information they think might answer the question you asked. Tesla chief executive Elon Musk is making plans to visit China as early as April and is seeking a meeting with China's Premier Li Qiang, two people with knowledge of planning for the trip told Reuters. The exact timing of the visit is subject to Li Qiang's availability, one of the sources said. Tesla and China's State Council Information Office did not immediately reply to requests for comment on Friday. China is Tesla's second-largest market after the United States and its Shanghai plant is the electric carmaker's largest production hub. A visit by Musk would mark his first visit to China since the COVID-19 pandemic and since Xi Jinping secured a third term as China's president. Before Li became premier in March, he served as Shanghai's party secretary where he oversaw the construction and opening of the Tesla factory. Musk last visited China in early 2020, when he set the internet abuzz by dancing on stage during an event at the Shanghai factory. … [Read more...] about Elon Musk plans China visit, seeks meeting with premier, claim sources
