Best domain registrar (February 2023)
Picking the best domain registrar gives you a head start when it comes to creating a solid website. After all, your readers will find your site through your domain name (once you create one that's unique to your business). Registration isn't difficult, but first you must choose from the hundreds of companies competing for your business, and there are several things for you to consider before committing to one firm. A domain registrar is an entity that registers domain names with an international body called ICANN, which manages domain names (and TLD - top level domains such as .com or .org) globally. It therefore acts as a proxy and will make sure that you're the official recognized owner of that domain name. Some of the best website builder (opens in new tab) services and the best web hosting (opens in new tab) providers also offer domain registration services, which makes so much more sense to go for an all inclusive, one stop shop offer. Here’s why Europe is abandoning plans to fly aboard China’s space station
Nearly six years ago the European Space Agency surprised its longtime spaceflight partners at NASA, as well as diplomatic officials at the White House, with an announcement that some of its astronauts were training alongside Chinese astronauts. The goal was to send European astronauts to China's Tiangong space station by 2022. "We were welcomed as colleagues and friends by the ‘taikonauts’ and the instructors," said European astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti at the time. "Language and cultural differences are obviously a challenge, but also adds value, as we are all focused on the common goal of space exploration." European astronauts did not fly to the Chinese space station in 2022, however, even though China completed its construction before the end of the year. In fact, Europeans are now unlikely ever to do so, even as the Tiangong facility flies for another decade, or longer, in low-Earth orbit. During his annual press briefing in late January, Josef Aschbacher, director … [Read more...] about Here’s why Europe is abandoning plans to fly aboard China’s space station
Best external hard drives of 2023
Let’s face it; the best external HDDs are here to stay. Yes, external SSDs might be faster, more efficient and less prone to failure. But nothing beats external hard disk drives when it comes to sheer value for money (or price per TB). That is particularly true if you need a lot of storage space on the go or you need to buy several of them for your business. Here’s the thing: SSDs are more robust due to the absence of moving parts. However, they also tend to be costlier especially for larger capacities especially if you want to carry more than 4TB around. And, that’s just the ticket if you want the most cost-effective solution. Of course, if extra security or exceptionally fast read and write speeds are much more important, then you might be better off spending more on a secure drive (opens in new tab) (opens in new tab) or a portable SSD (opens in new tab) (opens in new tab). Otherwise, you (and your bank account) will benefit more from getting one of the best external … [Read more...] about Best external hard drives of 2023
How to Upload Really Large Files to SkyDrive, Dropbox, or Email
Do you need to upload a very large file to store online or email to a friend? Unfortunately, whether you’re emailing a file or using online storage sites like SkyDrive, there’s a limit on the size of files you can use. Here’s how to get around the limits. Skydrive only lets you add files up to 50 MB, and while the Dropbox desktop client lets you add really large files, the web interface has a 300 MB limit, so if you were on another PC and wanted to add giant files to your Dropbox, you’d need to split them. This same technique also works for any file sharing service—even if you were sending files through email. There’s two ways that you can get around the limits—first, by just compressing the files if you’re close to the limit, but the second and more interesting way is to split up the files into smaller chunks. Keep reading for how to do both. Box icon by deliciousroom Just Shrink the File! So what can you do if you really need to share a larger file but have hit … [Read more...] about How to Upload Really Large Files to SkyDrive, Dropbox, or Email
google: Here’s what Google CEO told employees after introducing ChatGPT competitor Bard
Google CEO Sundar Pichai unveiled Bard , the company’s response to Microsoft-backed ChatGPT . One of the underlining points in the announcement is the testing and rollout timeline of the conversational AI service. Pichai said that Bard will be first tested by trusted testers before making it available to a larger user base. Soon after Pichai made the announcement, an internal memo was sent to all Google employees saying that the company will need them to test Bard. “Next week, we’ll be enlisting every Googler to help shape Bard and contribute through a special company-wide dogfood,” a report in CNBC quoted Pichai as saying. Notably, the term “Dogfood” is used within companies to imply using one’s own product before launching it.
