For most people, the thought of paying $1,000 for any phone is preposterous. It's why I appreciate the iPhone XR so much. At the very least it's a concession to a possible direction for Apple where iPhones stay well under $1,000, but are still great phones. Here's the thing though, even before the XR, Apple already had a really good, more affordable phone: the iPhone SE. Many people loved it. It was small, had a fingerprint reader, a headphone jack. It was everything the larger iPhones weren't and aren't today. And it's gone (although it was briefly available recently.)Apple may or may not have a spring event this year. At that event, a new iPad or two, new AirPods, and who knows, maybe even the AirPower charging mat could appear. But more than any of those, it would be great to see the iPhone SE 2.Here's why.Phones with headphone jacks still matter. Apple can try to evaporate all the headphone jacks in existence, but people still use traditional headphones. Having at least one phone … [Read more...] about Apple needs an iPhone SE 2 now more than ever

Watch it now: ConceptsiPhone. Lee regularly transforms rumors about upcoming Apple devices into video form. ConceptsiPhone and Lee present this device as “Coming Spring” but there’s very little evidence to support that. Though it very occasionally pops up for sale again. So far, there have been perhaps one or two unconfirmed reports that a new generation is coming this year, but the evidence is weak. Is there need for an iPhone SE? The original iPhone SE started at just under $400 back in 2016. It’s unlikely Apple would be able to produce a handset for that little today, especially if it has the features Lee portrays in his concept video. And Apple already offers a handset for close to that price: the iPhone 7 base model is $499. On the other side of the coin, Apple … [Read more...] about Spectacular iPhone SE 2 concept will get your hopes too high

While the XR is technically better, many Apple fans still like the iPhone SE’s simple design and comfortable feel in their hands.Aside from the SE’s known features, the iPhone SE 2’s new features have also been discussed in speculations circulating on the … [Read more...] about Apple iPhone SE 2 Rumors: Device May Come With Wireless Charging Support

I wrote this way back in January of 2015, when I first started thinking that, what became iPhone X and iPhone XS, were the next inevitable steps forward in iPhone evolution: Imagine a future iPhone where the screen goes to the edge on both sides, disappearing not at the curve but as the curve. Imagine an iPhone where the FaceTime camera and earpiece take up almost no space, and the screen reaches almost all the way to the top. And imagine an iPhone where the Home button is replaced by some new technology that can still allow for a physical escape to a known state, that can still scan fingerprints and authenticate, but that also lets the screen reach almost all the way to the bottom. The crux of the idea was that people kept asking for a more modern 4-inch iPhone, but it occurred to me it wasn't the smaller screen size they really wanted, it was the smaller phone size, and if the screen went edge-to-edge, they … [Read more...] about iPhone SE 2: What happened to it and why?
