Hey Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition owners, how bowled over would you be if your phone was updated to Android 9 Pie? Well, it could happen. According to SamMobile, seven Galaxy handsets have recently received new Wi-Fi certifications from the U.S. based Wi-Fi Alliance. The certifications were new, dated November 12, 2018, and showed all seven phones running on Android 9.0.The seven models listed by the Wi-Fi Alliance included these handsets:The Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition (FE) was born out of the two recalls that took the Galaxy Note 7 off the market in 2016 following several explosions. The phone, made up of unused and recycled Galaxy Note 7 parts, featured mostly the same specs used on the Galaxy Note 7, albeit with the Snapdragon 821 replacing the Snapdragon 820 chipset. A 3200mAh battery replaced the defective 3500mAh batteries used on the recalled units, and the Fan Edition model of the Galaxy Note 7 is equipped with the Galaxy S8 UI, giving it access to Bixby. The Galaxy Note 7 … [Read more...] about Wi-Fi certification shows that Samsung might update Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition to Android 9 Pie

Some holdouts have found a way to use their Samsung Galaxy Note 7
That led Samsung to recall the Galaxy Note 7 a second and final time, which resulted in another problem; some owners loved the device so much, they refused to let it go. By January 2017, over 96% of all Galaxy Note 7 units had been returned to Samsung. The manufacturer had sent out an update that prevented the phone from charging, and that seemed to be the last straw for many of the holdouts. But not every Galaxy Note 7 purchased was turned in. Some airlines even continue to post signs at the airport stating that no one is allowed to board a plane if they are carrying a Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Sammy's own support page, last updated on April 17th, 2018, asks those with a Galaxy Note 7 to turn it in to Samsung, noting that the handset "poses a safety risk." And that risk isn't just to the phone's owner, but to innocent bystanders around him/her.You see, on Reddit there are Galaxy Note 7 owners discussing how they are still using the phone, including one owner who posted pictures showing … [Read more...] about Some holdouts have found a way to use their Samsung Galaxy Note 7
There are still a few idiots left using the Galaxy Note 7
By now, most of the average phone-buying public has forgotten about the whole Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. That thing where many Note 7s had batteries that failed (sometimes dangerously), leading to a recall and replacement program, which was followed again by the new units failing just as spectacularly. Samsung, carriers and local regulatory bodies have gone to extensive lengths to make Galaxy Note 7s unusable. It started with a software push that nagged you to return your phone. Then a software update that limited your battery charge — and another that limited it further. Then the carriers stepped in and started to block SIMs that were used in a Note 7. Eventually Samsung issued software updates that made it difficult or impossible to charge the phone. Still, people who love their Note 7 held on tight (hopefully not too tight) and are still using their phones today — albeit in a diminished state. They've skipped software updates, rooted their phones or modified them in another … [Read more...] about There are still a few idiots left using the Galaxy Note 7
Here’s some explosive news: Galaxy Note 7 just got certified with Oreo
Home / News / Here’s some explosive news: Galaxy Note 7 just got certified with Oreo Samsung hasn’t yet been able to release the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the one flagship it was able to fall back on when the Galaxy Note 7 met its untimely demise, but someone at the company sure had enough time to test Oreo on the discontinued Note 7 and send it to the Wi-Fi Alliance for certification. That’s right: The Galaxy Note 7 has been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance with Android Oreo on-board. Did Samsung develop the update for the few who might still be using the Galaxy Note 7 (we all know not everyone turned their units in when the recall took place)? That seems unlikely, as no one is supposed to be using the Galaxy Note 7 officially, so one has to wonder why the device was tested with Oreo.Software updates for time bombs? The Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition has also been certified with Android 8.0 Oreo, and it’s possible the Wi-Fi Alliance requires all variants to be … [Read more...] about Here’s some explosive news: Galaxy Note 7 just got certified with Oreo
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 review (updated)
Update (10/12): In an unfortunate turn of events, Samsung has fully recalled and halted sales of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Considering Samsung’s current official recommendation is to turn off and return the Note 7, we can obviously no longer officially recommend the phone. It’s a shame too, as this device was easily the best phone ever created by Samsung, and perhaps the best by any OEM in smartphone history, with a strong 9.3 rating in our original reviewing. For more details on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 recall and production halt, check out our Galaxy Note 7 recall information hub. Here we are – Samsung went ahead and skipped a whole number to bring out their newest Note device. Though the main reason makes a lot of sense – Samsung wanted unification of their Galaxy line – the very notion of skipping a whole version is an interesting one. Does the phone actually innovate or jump forward to justify going from 5 to 7?Or, as we have started to … [Read more...] about Samsung Galaxy Note 7 review (updated)
