Samsung’s 240Hz 4K Mini LED 32-inch monitor goes on sale for $1,500
Samsung’s latest high-end gaming monitor — the curved 32-inch Odyssey Neo G8 — is now available to preorder for $1,500 and will be available to purchase on June 6th, the company has announced. The news follows its reveal back at CES in January . The Odyssey Neo G8 is notable for having a 240Hz refresh rate, making it one of, if not the, fastest-refreshing 4K monitors on the market. Other features include a claimed peak brightness of 2,000 nits, support for Adaptive-Sync (which means it’ll do variable refresh rates with both Nvidia and AMD GPUs), and a curvature of 1000R. Like its larger sibling, last year’s ultrawide Odyssey Neo G9 , the G8 is Mini LED. It uses over a thousand LEDs as a display backlight, and these can be selectively turned off and on for better contrast. The G8 has 1,196 local dimming zones across its curved 32-inch display. For an idea of how the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 might perform in practice, check out our review of the Odyssey Neo G9 … [Read more...] about Samsung’s 240Hz 4K Mini LED 32-inch monitor goes on sale for $1,500
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: what we want to see
Audio player loading… While the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 launch is still likely half a year away, we've got high hopes for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 's successor to be one of the best foldable phones we've tested. Why do we say that? Well, because it has to be: the foldable market is getting increasingly busy, with the Huawei P50 Pocket showing how feature-packed clamshells folds can be, and the Motorola Razr 2022 promising top specs too. For the Galaxy Z Flip 4 to be competitive, it'll need to be a fantastic device. Each new version of this bending Samsung phone comes on leaps and bounds from the last - the original Galaxy Z Flip didn't even have 5G, and the last version came with a big outer screen and a competitive price. So we're hoping the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes with even more improvements over its predecessor - in fact, we've written up a list of what we want to see below. On top of that, we've detailed what we know about the device so far, … [Read more...] about Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: what we want to see
See how the Steam Deck handles flame, scratch, and bending durability tests
What just happened? We're used to seeing YouTube channel JerryRigEverything abusing smartphones to discover how durable they are, but creator Zack Nelson tests more than just the latest handsets. Recently, he put the Steam Deck through its paces, and it did pretty well. Starting with his usual Mohs' hardness test, Nelson notes that the "abrasive" anti-glare coating on the more expensive Steam Deck model makes it harder to remove surface-level damage; he thinks Valve would have been better off using a brighter panel instead of the coating. It left marks from level 2 upwards, though the actual damage only occurs at level 6, which is about the same as most smartphones. The cheaper Steam Deck without the anti-glare coating didn't have this issue. Nelson then takes a blade to the handheld, noting that it should hold up pretty well to long-term use. And as with other IPS screens, the display is able to shrug off the flame test after it initially appears to suffer damage. … [Read more...] about See how the Steam Deck handles flame, scratch, and bending durability tests
Huawei launches gorgeous-looking Mate Xs 2 foldable phone for €1,999
Bottom line: The Huawei Mate Xs 2 features an impressive-looking 120Hz display that can fold outwards. However, this design makes it more susceptible to screen damage than other foldable phones. It unfortunately also misses out on 5G connectivity, something way cheaper phones include. In a livestream today, Huawei announced the global availability of their newest flagship foldable smartphone and a multitude of wearables. The company first launched these devices in China earlier this year, but now they're coming to western markets, starting with Europe. The Mate Xs 2 is Huawei's first new foldable since the P50 Pocket . It packs a massive 7.8-inch OLED screen (2480 x 2200 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate) that folds outwards, unlike competitors such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3. When folded up, it reduces to a more narrow 6.5-inch display, allowing for easier one-handed use. The device is powered by Qualcomm's last-gen Snapdragon 888 4G, as Huawei isn't allowed to … [Read more...] about Huawei launches gorgeous-looking Mate Xs 2 foldable phone for €1,999
Motorola has dropped a hint about a key Razr 2022 upgrade
Audio player loading… We may have a better idea of what's in store with the Motorola Razr 2022 , the third version of the clamshell foldable that first launched in 2019 – and this latest leak comes straight from one of the executives at Motorola. Qualcomm just unveiled the Snapdragon Gen 8+ Gen 1 mobile processor, and Motorola general manager Shen Jin has posted an image promoting the new chip on Weibo (via Notebookcheck ). According to the post text, there's a hidden Easter egg in the image. Look a little bit closer, and you can make out the shape of a foldable phone down at the bottom of the picture – is this the Easter egg that's being referred to? The implication is that the latest CPU could make its way into the Razr 2022. Chips with everything We wouldn't exactly take this as confirmation right now, even given the quality and standing of the source. The Motorola Razr 2020 , the most recent one we've seen, arrived with a mid-range Snapdragon 765G … [Read more...] about Motorola has dropped a hint about a key Razr 2022 upgrade
Motorola Razr 2022: here’s everything we know so far
Audio player loading… The next Moto foldable phone , presumably called the Motorola Razr 2022, is shaping up to be a big reinvention for the family - it's the third-gen version of the phone, following on from the Motorola Razr 2019 and Razr 2020 , but it might be the first really worth paying attention to. Motorola skipped a year in its pattern, with no Razr 2021, which has given the company even more time to create the best foldable it can - leaks also suggest it's going to have some impressive specs. We haven't got solid confirmation that Motorola is working on a third-gen Razr phone, but it seems likely with the annual installments up until now. Especially with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 slated to launch in late 2021, and the iPhone Flip hoped for in 2022, there's lots of competition for Moto to fight with. We're referring to this phone as the Motorola Razr 2022, as while we originally called it the Razr 2021, that never showed up. Lots of our wish … [Read more...] about Motorola Razr 2022: here’s everything we know so far
Even if the iPhone 14 is the most powerful phone ever, that’s not enough
Audio player loading… I must confess, I didn't quite 'get' the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 as soon as I heard about it. It's a new, super-powerful chipset from Qualcomm that'll come to Android phones toward the end of 2022, and a small step up over the 8 Gen 1 already seen in the OnePlus 10 Pro , Xiaomi 12 , and members of the Samsung Galaxy S22 family that launched in the US. The flagship features include 10% faster CPU performance, 10% faster GPU clock speeds and 20% better AI power efficiency - and if your eyes glazed over when you started reading that, we don't blame you. It's not exactly a sexy new smartphone component, and it's very much the definition of 'an incremental upgrade'. But that doesn't even matter - tech fans know that Apple's Bionic chips are always much faster than Qualcomm's Snapdragon rivals, and as a die-hard Android fan, even I'll admit that the iPhone 14 will probably have any of its Android contemporaries beat in terms of sheer power. But … [Read more...] about Even if the iPhone 14 is the most powerful phone ever, that’s not enough
Motorola Razr 3 leak teases a major camera upgrade for the foldable
Audio player loading… It looks as though there isn't long to wait before we can see the Motorola Razr 2022 – or the Motorola Razr 3, if you prefer – and a new leak gives us a glimpse of the handset as well as some details on the specs to expect. These unconfirmed details come via 91mobiles , which reports that the foldable flip phone has the codename Maven at the moment. We get photos showing the phone both opened out and closed shut, though it's not easy to pick out many details. One of the details we can see is the dual-camera setup that Motorola has put on the Razr 3 (on the back of the phone when it's opened up). There are now two lenses in this spot – reportedly 50MP and 13MP – whereas there was just one on the Motorola Razr 2020 . Screen and specs It would also appear that the outer display is going to be larger than it has been on previous models, though as we mentioned it's difficult to see anything very clearly in these shots. Both the 2020 model … [Read more...] about Motorola Razr 3 leak teases a major camera upgrade for the foldable
Here’s How to Get Google Assistant on the Galaxy Watch 4
Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 is one of the best smartwatches around, but unlike every other Wear OS device, it didn’t have Google Assistant. Now that has finally changed. Samsung revealed earlier this week that Google Assistant was finally rolling out to the Galaxy Watch 4, which has only had Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant since the watch was released last year. The good news is that it’s showing up on watches automatically without the need to do anything — in my case, the Assistant icon appeared at the bottom of my watch’s app list, and tapping it started the setup process. If you don’t see Google Assistant yet, Droid Life pointed out you can force the installation by opening the Play Store app listing for “Google Assistant for wearables,” and then choosing your watch as the target device. Much easier than the process for installing Google Assistant on Samsung’s older Tizen-powered Galaxy Watches , which was also an unofficial version. By default, holding down the home … [Read more...] about Here’s How to Get Google Assistant on the Galaxy Watch 4
