Audio player loading… A nasty bug has been going around affecting iPhone users that can cause the iMessage and FaceTime apps to randomly deactivate with no way to turn them back on. The news comes from various Twitter users including prominent Apple leaker and Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, all of whom detailed their experience with this bug. So far, this problem is limited to users on the T-Mobile and Verizon networks. That may seem like good news at first if the problem is limited to just two networks. However, Verizon and T-Mobile have the widest service networks in the United States, and with over 113 million iPhone users in the U.S., this could be a major problem. Problem with eSIM The problem is specifically affecting the eSIM chip, according to 9 To 5 Mac . The eSIM chip allows people to set up and activate their phones on a network via software without having to use a physical SIM card or visit a carrier store. And if you don’t recall, … [Read more...] about Nasty Apple bug reportedly killing FaceTime on iPhones

Apple punishes Windows 11 users with new iTunes update, just in time for WWDC
Audio player loading… Apple replaced iTunes with the Music app in macOS Catalina , but it's still available in Windows 10 and Windows 11 - and it’s just had a new update. Apple's music library app is likely how you first came across the company and the iPod - like when I bought the third-generation iPod in 2004. Managing music libraries and buying content on the iTunes Store was ahead of its time, but since most of us listen to music with streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify these days, iTunes has become a distant, and regrettable, memory. Except for Windows users, where Apple is holding off turning iTunes into a dedicated Music app , as it has done on macOS. The new update is just bug fixes, but it's not good enough anymore. Indeed, iTunes for Windows is looking more outdated with every passing year. It’s time for Apple to take another look at this strategy, especially as Apple Music is available on Android devices . … [Read more...] about Apple punishes Windows 11 users with new iTunes update, just in time for WWDC
The latest Steam Deck update includes a feature that fans have been begging for
Audio player loading… The Steam Deck has received a fresh update which introduces a number of tweaks, including something that many gamers have been hankering for – namely per-game performance settings. This means that you can now implement performance settings for individual games, so specific titles can be tuned based on your exact needs, and you don’t have to constantly reapply appropriate frame rate limits or refresh rate caps (and other bits and pieces) every time you play. If you don’t specify any individual settings, any given game will simply revert to using the default system performance choices as normal. As Valve explains , how it works is when you’re running a game, you head to Quick Access Menu > Performance > Advanced View, and then switch on the per-game settings – whatever performance settings are tweaked will then be saved for that game, and automatically applied when you next fire up the title. As ever, the client update … [Read more...] about The latest Steam Deck update includes a feature that fans have been begging for
Mr. Boop, the psychosexual webcomic that is a scathing critique of copyright
You can’t summarize the webcomic Mr. Boop better than its first panel, which emerged out of what felt like the raging id of the internet on February 28, 2020. “My wife Betty Boop is really hot,” says Alec, the strip’s spectacled, grinning protagonist, a cartoon avatar for actual writer and artist Alec Robbins. His wife, you see, is Betty Boop. She’s really hot. At first blush, Mr. Boop might not seem all that different from the webcomics that largely defined the genre’s boom a decade or so ago: imperfectly drawn pan els, constant flirtation with copyright violation, and a horny, endlessly self-indulgent hero based directly on the author. But Robbins isn’t just channeling the tropes of a largely bygone era of fanfiction; he’s weaponizing them, delivering a note-perfect satire of a very specific time on the internet with layers that only reveal themselves as the story unfolds. Over 216 comic strips, several videos, and one alarming free-to-play visual novel , Robbins — a … [Read more...] about Mr. Boop, the psychosexual webcomic that is a scathing critique of copyright
