Home / News / Camera comparison: Galaxy S9 vs the Galaxy S7 The primary rear camera on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ is as important as that found on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung introduced Dual Pixel autofocus to its phones with the Galaxy S7, bringing an important upgrade to the already excellent cameras found on Samsung flagships back then. With the Galaxy S9 comes another big upgrade, and that’s the dual-aperture camera lens that lets the phone switch between a narrow and wide aperture (f/2.4 and f/1.5 respectively) to take better photos under bright light and in low-light conditions respectively. We have already compared the Galaxy S9 camera to the Galaxy S8’s, and our conclusion then was that the Galaxy S9 captures more accurate colors (which can seem dull when compared to the S8 side-by-side) and creates photos with less noise in low-light conditions. Outdoors and in brightly lit scenes, the difference between the S9 and S8 isn’t noticeable, and … [Read more...] about Camera comparison: Galaxy S9 vs the Galaxy S7
Samsung’s 2018 flagship phone, the Galaxy S9, is the first in the world with an f/1.5 lens aperture. But set aside all the hype about it being part of a dual-aperture system. What I really wanted to know about this change is how it might improve Samsung’s low-light imaging. Having the widest aperture means being able to soak up the most light, so, in theory at least, the Galaxy S9 should be the best cameraphone for situations where light is at a premium. Except, well, there’s Google’s Pixel 2, which has taken over the mantle from the original Pixel as the best all-around camera on a phone. The Pixel achieves superlative results through clever image stacking and processing algorithms rather than pure hardware might. So it could still be the best. The only solution to this uncertainty, of course, was to put the two cameras to the test. While in Geneva for the Motor Show, I went out for a late-night walk with the Galaxy S9 Plus and the Pixel 2 XL and took a bunch … [Read more...] about Galaxy S9 Plus vs. Pixel 2 XL: a new low-light photo champion?
March 9, 2018 - Written By Cory McNutt IntroductionDo we have a good one for you today – the new Samsung Galaxy S9 goes up against its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S8. This comparison is not so much about which device is better as we all know the Galaxy S9 improved the Galaxy S8 in many areas, but this comparison is a way to show you in what areas the Galaxy S9 improved over the Galaxy S8 to make it a better smartphone. We also want to answer the question, “is it worth upgrading from the Galaxy S8 to the Galaxy S9,” or perhaps we have to go back to the Galaxy S7 before an upgrade is necessary. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S8 do share a basic DNA – starting with their large 5.8-inch displays and their use of Samsung’s Super AMOLED technology, an 18.5:9 ratio, a WQHD resolution, an Always-On display for notifications, and Gorilla Glass 5. The US/China edition of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S8 use a Snapdragon processor and Adreno GPU, only different models with … [Read more...] about Phone Comparisons: Samsung Galaxy S9 vs Samsung Galaxy S8

With six months between them and several similarities, which of these two behemoths is the best smartphone now? The Galaxy S9 is newest, but is it better? Let’s take a look! We’ve spent a week with the Galaxy S9 since it was announced at Mobile World Congress. While we’ll reserve our judgments on the device until our full review, it’s very clear Apple and Samsung are growing closer with each new product launch. That’s what we’ll cover in this quick look, but we’ll update this initial comparison with a full head to head in the coming weeks! The iPhone X is a radical change from previous iPhones and it looks set to influence the industry as much as the first iPhone.
