It seems strange to be thinking about what parts might go into the Apple iPhone 6 when we don't even know when the iPhone 5 is coming out, nor do we know what the next-generation of Apple's touchscreen phone will look like. So far, it does appear that the Apple iPhone 5 will have a larger screen that goes out from edge to edge as we have reported. With a 3.7 inch to 4 inch screen, Apple is expected to keep the same resolution which will lower the ppi from the current 326 to about 315 which would keep it over the 300 mark that labels a Retina Display. For the Apple iPhone 6, the Cuperino based firm is said to have chosen Sharp's next-generation, low temperature poly-silicon LCD display. Based on a report by Japanese newspaper Nikkan, Sharp will start manufacturing the displays in the Spring of next year. The company is already prepping equipment at Kameyama Plant No. 1 where the Japanese company makes LCD Televisions. The low-temperature poly-silicon allows the LCD screen to be made … [Read more...] about Apple iPhone 6 to use Sharp’s p-Si LCD display for launch next year

On the surface, Apple's CEO pay for last year was "just" $8.75 million, hurling Tim Cook towards the bottom third of all CEOs in the list of the S&P 500. This figure, however, only accounts for the direct salary and bonuses received plus some the amount of some of the inevitable executive privileges. The more interesting story, however, are the 1.26 million shares he got awarded as an incentive when he became Apple's CEO in 2011.Those are granted with various performance strings attached to be vested fully, and in the case of Apple a fifth were tied to the three-year company shareholder return performance relative to the S&P 500 index. Given that in Apple's fiscal year that ended last September the shares had outrun the index by 78% for three years prior, Tim Cook's fifth can be fully vested at today's prices, along with the rest of his company stock that can be vested simply by running the company. This means that Apple's CEO actually could run home with $145 million just for … [Read more...] about Tim Cook actually made $145 Million in 2016, the most of any S&P 500 CEO

At 1557 Paris time yesterday, the rating company Standards & Poor's sent out an erroneous alert message to a number of its subscribers of its global credit rating web site that the company had downgraded France's triple-A credit rating. According to the Wall Street Journal, it took nearly two hours before S&P sent out another note stating that the alert was in fact a "technical error." The WSJ said that as the news of the alert spread, "... the euro weakened against the dollar, U.S. stocks slipped and French bond prices fell, pushing yields higher. Cash reversed course, flooding into U.S. Treasurys and German government bonds."cited in this Bloomberg News story) stated that: "As a result of a technical error, a message was automatically disseminated today to some subscribers of S&P’s Global Credit Portal suggesting that France’s credit rating had been changed. This is not the case: the ratings on Republic of France remain ‘AAA/A1+’ with a stable … [Read more...] about S&P’s “Technical Error” Outrages French Government

Vizio first introduced its P-Series televisions in March 2015, but frankly, we wouldn’t blame you for not knowing that. They weren’t all that memorable. The P-Series was Vizio’s first 4K Ultra HD TV series, but just a few months after its introduction, Vizio came through with the M-Series, which also had 4K, along with even more premium features, for an even lower price. At the time, it was hard to figure out how the P-Series fit into Vizio’s grand plan. Now we know.Digital Trends got an early, up-close look at the new P-Series TV line — which Vizio officially introduced today — and we think it has what it takes to be one of the highest-rated TVs of the year.Vizio — yes, Vizio — will be the TV brand to beat in 2016.Vizio says the P-Series benefits from trickle-down technology originally developed for the company’s much more expensive Reference Series. That means 4K Ultra HD resolution, Dolby Vision HDR … [Read more...] about Hands on: Vizio P-series

Amazon.com and its investors got an early holiday present when Amazon shares were moved into the S&P 500 index, sparking buying interest in the e-tailer's stock.Amazon slid into the S&P 500 slot to take over the listing previously held by AT&T, which is being acquired by SBC Communications. SBC, which has already said it will take on the AT&T name, is already a member of the closely watched index. The move is seen as a boost because managers of many mutual funds and other institution investment vehicles are required to hold a stake in all companies listed in the S&P, a broad basket of stocks representing numerous sectors.Amazon shares rose more than 6 percent on the news to US$45.18 in early afternoon trading today.
