With Thor: Love and Thunder set to arrive in theaters on July 8, it's high time we received another glimpse at the upcoming MCU movie . It's nice of Marvel Studios to have obliged, then, with the latest Thor 4 trailer giving us our first look at Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher among many other things. There's a lot going on in the official Thor 4 trailer, so much so that we suspect you'll have missed some pretty important moments, locations, and Easter eggs within its two-minute runtime. Samsung Galaxy S23 might fix the S22’s biggest problem
Audio player loading… The Samsung Galaxy S line is made up of largely fantastic phones, but one issue that has long affected them is the use of a different chipset in different parts of the world, with one of those chipsets inevitably being weaker. Now though, it looks like Samsung might finally be addressing that issue. According to Naver (opens in new tab) (a South Korean news site), Samsung is creating a "dream team" of around 1000 employees to build a chipset designed specifically for Galaxy smartphones. Now, this apparently won’t be ready in time for the Samsung Galaxy S23 or even the Galaxy S24, but supposedly the resources required in developing this new chipset means Samsung won’t make Exynos chipsets for those phones, relying purely on Qualcomm Snapdragon ones worldwide. In other words, every model of the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 might have a Snapdragon chipset, rather than some regions getting Snapdragon and others getting a Samsung-made … [Read more...] about Samsung Galaxy S23 might fix the S22’s biggest problem
Larger-than-30TB hard drives are coming much sooner than expected
Audio player loading… Inside of hard disk drives are platters which hold all your data; these are all manufactured by one company in Japan called Showa Denko which has announced (opens in new tab) it expects to “realize near-line HDD having storage capacity of more than 30TB" by the end of 2023. Deciphering that statement, we’d assume it will provide platters with a storage capacity of more than 3TB, sometime in 2023, to partners such as Toshiba, Seagate and Western Digital, who will then produce the hard disk drives , targeting hyperscalers and data centers operators. We’d expect some of them to end up in NAS and 3.5-inch external hard drives , but that won’t be the main target markets, as performance is likely to be optimized for nearline usage. Race to 30TB Showa Denko has now started shipment of the platters that will go into new 26TB Ultrastar DC HC670 UltraSMR hard disk drives announced by Western Digital only a few days ago. … [Read more...] about Larger-than-30TB hard drives are coming much sooner than expected
Forget PS5 – Sony is making big bucks with PC games
Audio player loading… Sony’s PC ports of PlayStation games (opens in new tab) are set to make a load more money in the coming year, although the firm’s PC projects are already doing well in terms of earnings. This became clear from a shareholder briefing where Sony presented a bunch of slides, one of which outlined income from PC ports, showing that they brought in $80 million over the past fiscal year (running up to the end of March), no less. Those are the proceeds from Horizon: Zero Dawn (opens in new tab) , God of War and Days Gone, but there are far greater things to come, Sony predicts. Namely that in the next financial year, the company expects its PC games (opens in new tab) to earn $300 million, almost quadruple the figure from this past year (and not far off a ninefold increase on the $35 million made in 2020). That’s a huge leap in takings, of course, and it begs the question: what has Sony got in the pipeline to make it so confident that … [Read more...] about Forget PS5 – Sony is making big bucks with PC games
The Google Pixel Foldable is reportedly delayed to 2023
At Google's recent I/O conference , we heard about a lot of upcoming Google hardware, including the Pixel 6a , Pixel 7 , Pixel Watch , and even a Pixel Tablet, which isn't due out until sometime in 2023. We didn't hear anything about a Pixel foldable , though. Still, we know something is in the works since the Google Camera app included the detection flag "isPixel2022Foldable" alongside flags for other Pixel devices. So what's the deal? The Elec reports that the Google foldable is delayed until 2023. This would mark the second time the foldable has been delayed, as it was originally due out late last year. It seems that the original plan was to release the product alongside Android 12L, aka 12.1, the tablet-and-foldables-focused Android release. Google often tries to develop Android builds and new hardware simultaneously, but making hardware is difficult. Google and Samsung are partnering up for Wear OS and the Google Tensor SoC, and the Pixel foldable is likewise … [Read more...] about The Google Pixel Foldable is reportedly delayed to 2023

Starlink launches satellite Internet service for RVs with no waitlist
Bottom line: Starlink has launched a satellite Internet service designed specifically with travelers in mind. The service supplies Internet access on an as-needed basis anywhere Starlink provides active coverage. Users can pause and reactive service at any time to accommodate travel schedules, but service is charged in full monthly increments and cannot be pro-rated. There is no waitlist either – all orders will ship shortly after being received. Drafting dynamics and good tactics: How to win the Indianapolis 500
On most IndyCar teams, Simon Pagenaud would play the role of mentor. But when the 38-year-old French driver joined Meyer Shank Racing for the 2022 season, he paired with 47-year-old Helio Castroneves—fresh off his record-tying fourth Indianapolis 500 victory—to form one of the most experienced duos on the grid. "I definitely feel like the young guy, that's for sure!" Pagenaud told us. In advance of this weekend's 106th running of the Indianapolis 500, we spoke with the Meyer Shank duo about drafting dynamics, sports car experience, and the quest to make history. Ars: You two had immediate success this year in the International Motor Sports Association, winning the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Helio, what does Simon bring to the table, and what is your dynamic like as teammates? Castroneves: They should roll out the red carpet every time Simon and I walk in the room since we're so experienced—we've earned the respect. [laughs] Everyone has strengths, and Simon's is looking at all … [Read more...] about Drafting dynamics and good tactics: How to win the Indianapolis 500
