Andrew Martonik 23 Dec 2016 69 Even a year on, Google's own Pixel C remains on sale and for many is just enough of a productivity machine that it can sometimes replace a large and cumbersome laptop. I've actually taken quite a liking to the Pixel C after completely writing it off for the first six months of its life, but its shortage of ports limits its viability for the kinds of things I so often do on a laptop. USB-C itself isn't the issue, actually — it's the fact that the Pixel C offers just a single port. As anyone with a new Apple MacBook will tell you, having a single port isn't all that great.Buy one Galaxy S10 or Note 10 and get one free at Verizon As I awaited the delivery of my own new MacBook Pro, which of course only has USB-C ports, I actually took to using a couple of my new USB-C … [Read more...] about The Pixel C is almost a laptop with this USB-C dongle

Andrew Martonik 21 Mar 2017 3 Android 7.1.2 beta 2 has started rolling out for Pixels and Nexuses, bringing some older devices up to speed with some new features. Sliding under the radar, at first, was the Pixel C, which actually seems to have received the largest changes. The latest beta release includes the Pixel launcher, as well as a brand new multitasking interface that makes multi-window management a bit more natural and altogether better looking. As soon as your Pixel C reboots after the update it will prompt you to select a default launcher again — yes, that's because the previously phone-exclusive Pixel launcher is here. It's of course roughly a scaled-up version of the launcher you see on Pixel phones today, but that's a good thing! The navigation buttons are now the filled-in white icons like the Pixel phones, … [Read more...] about Android 7.1.2 beta 2 for Pixel C adds Pixel launcher, brand new multitasking interface

Ball of confusion Android Central 2 Apr 2017 15 Android 7.1.2 brings the Pixel Launcher to the Pixel C and it's apparently begun a wider rollout. Along with the Nexus Player, people have reported to Android Police that they are seeing the update today to bring the two devices up to speed with the newest version of Android. There have been scattered reports of people getting the build on their tablet in the past days, but this seems to be less scattered and more focused. A rollout right about now matches well with word from the Canadian carrier Rogers who has plans to push a substantial update on April 3 for the Pixel phones. We were told the 7.1.2 update would contain "bug fixes and optimizations, along with a small number of enhancements for carriers and users" and Rogers says their April 3 update will enable VoLTE and bring the latest updates.Buy one Galaxy S10 or Note 10 and get one free at Verizon … [Read more...] about Android 7.1.2 rolling out to some Pixel C and Nexus Player users

Andrew Martonik 9 May 2017 40 I was late to the party, but eventually became a big fan of Google's Pixel C tablet a handful of months after it was released. For all of its flaws in being heavy and inherently lacking app support, I loved it as an extra-portable backup computer with a really good keyboard and powerful internals. But the Pixel C is coming up on two years old now, and while it has aged pretty well, its flaws haven't seen any remedy since release.Buy one Galaxy S10 or Note 10 and get one free at Verizon That has me looking for a replacement, and it seems the only reasonable option for this type of high-end, large tablet with a keyboard is Samsung's new Galaxy Tab S3. Not only does the Galaxy Tab S3 have a similar form factor and feature set as the Pixel C, but it's a modern device with a much better … [Read more...] about Is the Galaxy Tab S3 a suitable successor to an aging Pixel C?

It's exactly what you think Daniel Bader 8 Dec 2019 0 Source: Daniel Bader / Android Central Every year around this time, the internet is inundated with roundups. Lists of the best movies, albums, TV shows, and books are everywhere, and people can't wait to catch up on all the award-winning titles they missed or overlooked when the weather was warm. In the tech world, things are a bit different. Most people don't consume phones the way they consume TV shows (though I know a bunch of our most loyal readers would beg to differ), but that doesn't stop people from passing judgment on those products, often without using them. There were two products released this year, though, that received almost universal acclaim: the OnePlus 7T and the Pixel 3a. In fact, both were almost unanimously picked to be the best phone and the best value phone of 2019 respectively, and everyone I've spoken to who bought one of them … [Read more...] about From the Editor’s Desk: Google’s best phone of 2019
