If your TV streaming service is losing millions of customers, something needs to change. AT&T has decided that for TV Now, increasing the price by 30 percent is the best thing to do. As 9to5Mac reports, the cheapest TV Now option is the Plus package, which costs $50 and offers access to over 45 channels of content. The Max package increases the channel count to over 60 and offers more sports coverage for $70. Starting next month, however, they are getting a price hike to $65 and $80 per month, respectively. Meanwhile, the other plans—Entertainment, Choice, Xtra, Ultimate, and Optimo Mas—will get $10-per-month price hikes each. So the highest price plan, Ultimate, will soon be $145 for 125+ channels. AT&T is informing existing customers of the price hike via an email and there's no way around it, apparently. You can either agree to pay the higher price or cancel the service. TV Now used to be called DirecTV Now, but AT&T decided on a rebrand earlier this year. … [Read more...] about AT&T TV Now Gets a Price Hike (Again)

Some YouTube TV Subscribers Will Get Showtime for Free
If you've been subscribing to YouTube TV for a long time, then chances are a Showtime subscription is heading your way for the summer at no extra cost. As Engadget reports, YouTube is rewarding subscribers who have been using the premium streaming service for a while with a free Showtime subscription. What we don't know yet is how long your YouTube TV subscription needs to have been active to qualify. YouTube simply describes the offer as open to "longtime friends." The Showtime offer will grant access to all content on the service, but without the usually $10.99 charge every month (or $109.90 a year). It's also nice to hear that the free subscription does not end with an auto-renewal with charges attached. You can keep watching until Sept. 5 and then decide if you want to continue or not. Obviously Showtime is hoping you will pay up and continue being a subscriber after that. Related YouTube Premium vs. YouTube TV: What's the Difference? YouTube Dropped From Amazon’s Fire TV, Echo Show (Again)
UPDATE (12/28): On Jan. 1, Google was supposed to officially end support for the YouTube app on Fire TV devices. But Amazon may have decided to respond four days ahead of that date. On Thursday, Fire TV devices started displaying a new YouTube app that launches the video streaming service through the Firefox or Silk browser. This occured after Amazon began rolling out the browsers across its media streaming players just over a week ago. Amazon didn't directly comment on the change. In an email, a company spokesperson said: "At this time, all I can confirm is that YouTube and millions of other websites are accessible by using a web browser like Firefox or Silk on Fire TV." Google didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Original story 12/5: Google is pulling YouTube from Amazon's Echo Show and Fire TV devices over the online retailer's refusal to carry certain products from the search company.
