Redmonk programming language rankings
source Shutterstock “Software is eating the world,” venture capitalist Marc Andreessen famously declared. Someone has to write that software. Why not you? There are thousands of programming languages, but some are far more popular than others. When a company goes out to find new programming talent, they’re looking for people familiar with the languages and systems they already use – even as newer languages like Apple Swift or Google Go start to make a splash. Here are the programming languages you should learn if you always want to have a job, as suggested by the popular TIOBE Index, the Redmonk Programming Language Rankings, the HackerRank Developer Skills Report and the annual Stack Overflow developer survey. Java: Originally invented in 1991 as a programming language for smart televisions, Oracle’s Java is still the most popular language in the world — a position solidified by the fact that Java is crucial to Android app … [Read more...] about Learn any of these 16 programming languages and you’ll always have a job
News Swift Falls from Top 10 in RedMonk Programming Language Rankings RedMonk noted the "relatively static nature of the top 10 languages" in its new programming language popularity report, but one notable change in that higher echelon is the exit of Swift. Swift, introduced by Apple about four years ago, quickly became the new darling of the industry, exhibiting the fastest growth rate RedMonk has seen, cracking the top 10 in the January 2018 quarterly report. In the June report issued today (Aug. 10), however, it fell back to 11. Ironically, it was surpassed by Objective-C, Apple's legacy language for iOS and other development that Swift was introduced to supplant. Though RedMonk advises against reading too much into incremental changes in its rankings, it called out Swift's one-step drop for special attention. As it has done previously, RedMonk noted the lack of a server-side presence (something IBM has been trying to rectify in its enterprise Swift push) as a factor in its … [Read more...] about Swift Falls from Top 10 in RedMonk Programming Language Rankings — ADTmag
Video: What programming languages do you need to know to earn more?A boom in machine-learning applications continues to drive up the popularity of 27-year-old Python, so much that it could soon outrank 33-year-old C++ on TIOBE's programming language index. Python's rise on the new TIOBE index results for August lines up with past results from Stack Overflow, a site that helps programmers solve coding questions, which last year found that growth in Python-tagged questions may have made it the fastest-growing language. IEEE's app for rating the most popular languages has had Python in top spot since 2017 where it remains today, as it does on PyPl. Developer analyst RedMonk places Python in third spot. But on TIOBE's index, Python has never reached third spot. It has risen from fifth to fourth place since August 2017 with a current rating of 6.992 percent, just behind C++'s 7.471 percent rating. TIOBE analysts believe that Python's running on large embedded systems will … [Read more...] about Python’s rise: Could it soon edge out C++ in programming language popularity?
