Sorry, the Ryzen 9 7950X isn’t hitting 6.3GHz
If you're lucky enough to have the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, you may have noticed that the normally speedy chip appears to be running at near record-breaking boost speeds. Unfortunately, you aren't actually getting that much performance out of the chip. The Ryzen 9 7950X is one of the best processors around with a boost clock speed of 5.7GHz, which is already blindingly fast. According to our friends at Tom's Hardware (opens in new tab) , some users have found however that when their PC running the chip wakes from sleep, the processor's clock speed shoots up to 6.28GHz, which would be absolutely incredible if it were real. Unfortunately, those near-record-breaking clock speeds are too good to be true. It looks like the AMD chip has been hit with the RTC (Real Time Clock) reporting bug, which makes the chip look like it's running significantly faster than it actually is. Fortunately, unlike a lot of Windows 11 bugs or major security issues with AMD chips , the RTC … [Read more...] about Sorry, the Ryzen 9 7950X isn’t hitting 6.3GHz

The list of Clop ransomware (opens in new tab) victims keeps on growing, with the threat actor adding American retail icon Saks Fifth Avenue to its data leak website. Saks Fifth Avenue is a luxury brand retailer, offering curated shops featuring the latest trends in apparel, shoes, handbags, and similar. While the threat actor did add the retailer’s name to the leak site, they did not provide any additional details, such as the type of data that was taken, or whom it belonged to (for example, customers, partners, or employees). Fake data On the other hand, the company confirmed the data breach to BleepingComputer, with a spokesperson saying that it fell prey to the now-infamous GoAnywhere MFT vulnerability. The next big Apple Watch feature could be smart straps – here’s why
The Apple Watch may have struggled to take any radical leaps forward in its past few generations, but a potentially significant upgrade could soon be on the cards – smart straps that can talk to the Watch and trigger new modes. Right now, Apple Watch straps are dumb and simply slide into the smartwatch for new looks. But as spotted by Patently Apple (opens in new tab) , Apple has just been granted a new patent (opens in new tab) that would see NFC-connected bands that are able to connect to a new NFC module in the Apple Watch's body. But why? One of the main use cases hinted at by the patent is a useful, if relatively minor, new feature. The new connectivity between the Apple Watch and these smart straps could see it automatically change modes when you switch bands – for example, changing the watch face or opening a particular app. This could be handy if you have a few different straps for different activities. For example, connect a fitness band and the Apple … [Read more...] about The next big Apple Watch feature could be smart straps – here’s why
