Netflix brings its impressive Spatial Audio sound to even more shows

February 2, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… It was big news when, in July 2022, Netflix teamed up with audio behemoth Sennheiser to bring Spatial Audio support to a handful of the former’s original movies and TV shows for customers on its premium plan, without the need for specialist headphones that support it. At the time of announcement, that support was limited to tentpole projects like Stranger Things , The Adam Project and The Witcher – but now, Netflix has announced plans to expand spatial audio compatibility to over 700 existing and upcoming titles. In essence, this kind of Spatial Audio converts regular stereo output into expansive, three-dimensional sound that aims to mimic the experience of watching movies in a theater. Headphones that work with Dolby Atmos , such as Apple AirPods Pro 2 , could already do Spatial Audio from Netflix – but this new system improves the quality of sound emitted from any of the best headphones , as well as from laptop or standard TV … [Read more...] about Netflix brings its impressive Spatial Audio sound to even more shows

The Resident Evil 4 remake will drop a decisive feature

February 1, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… With Resident Evil 4's remake less than a couple of months away, fans have been wondering just how faithful it'll be to the original game. In the case of one divisive mechanic, not so much. The Resident Evil 4 remake, launching for PS5 and Xbox Series X |S on March 24, is entirely ditching the quick time events of the original release. In an exclusive with Game Informer (opens in new tab) , Capcom confirmed that in their place will be more substantial gameplay elements such as side quests and new enemy types. These side quests will be scattered throughout the environment as collectible flyers, incentivizing exploration. They offer various objectives like killing certain enemies or solving various puzzles and riddles. What few side quests the original game had, such as shooting a set of blue medallions, are also set to make a return. New enemy types will be making their debut in Resident Evil 4 , too, one of which being a portly … [Read more...] about The Resident Evil 4 remake will drop a decisive feature

Apple Watch owners’ next must-have gadget is a sleep-tracking smart Oura Ring

February 2, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… In a world in which you can get smart versions of almost anything, from speakers and watches to water bottles and running shoes, I find smart rings particularly fascinating. In some ways, they're the perfect wearable – unobtrusive, stylish and able to seamlessly blend with the rest of your outfit. However, they're far too small to pack a screen, so all the data it collects is only available in the corresponding app. Out of all the smart ring offerings available right now, the Oura Ring is the best-known and most adopted, topping our list of the best sleep trackers . The Oura Generation 3 is a solid wellness tracker geared towards monitoring sleep and stress rather than pure fitness, with seven temperature sensors monitoring your 'restorative time', an updated heart rate sensor, and a readiness score just like Garmin or Fitbit. The Oura Ring is a screenless wearable like most other smart rings, a chunky yet pretty ring designed to be worn on the … [Read more...] about Apple Watch owners’ next must-have gadget is a sleep-tracking smart Oura Ring

How to Rebuild the Search Index in Windows

October 4, 2016 by www.howtogeek.com Leave a Comment

If you are encountering problems with searching–unexpectedly slow searches, not finding things that should be indexed, or searches actually crashing–your best bet is to completely rebuild the search index. RELATED: How to Choose Which Files Windows Search Indexes on Your PC The search index can take a while to rebuild, but it’s usually worth it. Before you rebuild the index, though, it may be worth taking the time to trim down your index locations to just what you need to make the indexing process faster. Open up the “Indexing Options” window by hitting Start and typing “Indexing Options.” In the “Indexing Options” window, click the “Advanced” button. In the “Advanced Options” window, click the “Rebuild” button. After that, it’s just a matter of waiting while Windows rebuilds the index from scratch. You can keep using your PC normally, of course, but searching will continue to be spotty until the index is fully rebuilt. Also, Windows tries to do … [Read more...] about How to Rebuild the Search Index in Windows

How to Disable Search In Windows

July 12, 2017 by www.howtogeek.com Leave a Comment

If you really don’t use Windows Search much, you can disable indexing completely by turning off the Windows Search service. You’ll still be able to search–it will just take longer without an index. RELATED: How to Choose Which Files Windows Search Indexes on Your PC If you’re thinking of disabling Search because it’s slowing things down, we recommend trimming down what files and folders are getting indexed and seeing if that works for you first. And if you’re experiencing crashes or inaccurate searches, try rebuilding your search index . You should also note that other apps–notably Microsoft Outlook–use Windows Search to allow searching within those apps, so you’ll have to do without fast searching in those, as well. That said, if you’re planning on using another search app or you just don’t search often and would rather not have the service running, Windows Search is easy to disable. Hit Start, type “services,” and then click the result. On the … [Read more...] about How to Disable Search In Windows

How to Use Different Wallpapers on Multiple Monitors in Windows 7

July 12, 2017 by www.howtogeek.com Leave a Comment

So you’ve just unpacked that spiffy new monitor, and it sits fresh and new on your desk putting your other little displays to shame. Now you have to give it some sartorial splendor: a kick-ass wallpaper from the online repository of your choice. But now comes the conundrum—what if you want to use different images on different screens? RELATED: How to Set a Different Wallpaper on Each Monitor in Windows 10 Unfortunately, Windows 7’s default wallpaper handler is pretty primitive for multiple displays. (Windows 8 and 10 are much better, so check out these instructions if you’re using a later version of Windows.) In Windows 7, you have two options for using different wallpapers: you can create your own combined image, using your favorite image editor, or you can use a third-party tool like DisplayFusion or UltraMon . First, we’ll look at the manual way to make your own multi-monitor wallpaper. If you want something a bit more automated (that requires extra … [Read more...] about How to Use Different Wallpapers on Multiple Monitors in Windows 7

How to Delete, Modify or Disable an Incorrect or Duplicate Entry on the XP Boot Menu

May 24, 2010 by www.howtogeek.com Leave a Comment

Have you ever inherited a computer that has more than one entry on the Windows XP boot menu screen? Most of the time one of the entries doesn’t even work in the first place, and then you’re forced to either hit a key or wait 30 seconds every time. Note: If you’re on Windows 7 or Vista, there’s a different method required for removing boot menu items . There are two options to get around this: You can remove the offending boot menu item, or you can just turn off the boot menu from being displayed. If you aren’t tech savvy, you’ll want to just use the second option. Thanks to my friend Shawn for forgetting how to do this and prompting me to write this article. =) Removing an Incorrect Boot Menu Option on XP Note: This method involves modifying a very important boot configuration file. You should proceed with caution and always make sure you have backups of your files just in case something goes wrong. All of the boot menu options in Windows XP are stored in the … [Read more...] about How to Delete, Modify or Disable an Incorrect or Duplicate Entry on the XP Boot Menu

Google may introduce Apple’s Continuity Camera rival with Android 14

February 3, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

Google is said to introduce another Apple -like feature. Apple introduced the interesting Continuity camera feature last year. The feature can turn the iPhone into a webcam for the Mac. Now it appears that tech giant Google is also working on a similar kind of feature. According to Android expert Mishaal Rahman, Google is planning to enable native support for using Android phones as webcams for PCs and Chromebooks. The company is working on rolling out the feature with Android 14 . "Using an Android phone as a webcam became really popular during the pandemic, but you've typically had to install a third-party app to do so. You may not have to do this in the future, though, as Google is adding support for turning Android devices into USB webcams!", tweeted Rahman. Rahmaan further revealed that he spotted the information in the Android Open Source Project repository. He noticed a service called 'DeviceAsWebcam'. This yet-to-launch feature is rumoured to … [Read more...] about Google may introduce Apple’s Continuity Camera rival with Android 14

apple: Here’s what Apple CEO Tim Cook has to say on whether the company will lay off employees or not

February 3, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

Amazon has done it. So have Google, Microsoft, Intel, Twitter, Meta, Spotify and many others. You name it and almost every big tech company has done it, except one: Apple . We are talking about layoffs across the world. Apple, so far, has shied from laying off employees, even though it reported quarterly results which weren’t that great. Apple CEO Tim Cook was asked about the company taking the hard decision of laying off employees. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cook said, “I view layoffs as a last resort kind of thing,” before adding, “You can never say never.” Managing and cutting costs Cook further said that Apple wants to manage costs “other ways to the degree that we can.” He also said that Apple recognises that the current environment is tough and the company is cutting costs as well. “We’re cutting hiring, we’re being very prudent and deliberate on people that we hire,” Cook said. Cook hasn’t really completely ruled out layoffs at … [Read more...] about apple: Here’s what Apple CEO Tim Cook has to say on whether the company will lay off employees or not
