There were almost 250,000 burglaries in France in 2017, 2 percent up on the previous year although not quite as high as in 2013. There was also roughly the same number of failed break-ins, taking the total of attempted and completed burglaries to 470,000. That’s according to France Interior Ministry’s yearly crime index study, which The Local has had access to. The report also highlights that an unfortunate 30,000 properties were burgled more than once over the course of 2017. But not all departments across l’Héxagone are affected equally. The Scripps Research Institute ranks among the top 10 educational centers in the nation for chemistry and biology, according to a U.S. News & World Report survey.The Skaggs Graduate School of Chemical and Biological Science at Scripps Research was judged against other independent institutions, along with colleges and universities across the country.In chemistry, a 6th place ranking.For subspecialties within chemistry, the Skaggs graduate program came in 2nd in biochemistry; and 5th in organic chemistry.In biology, the Skaggs school ranked 10th.The survey was released March 20.The La Jolla nonprofit has long been recognized for its expertise at the nexus of chemistry and biology. Apple's influence on the Indian smartphone market is gradually increasing, according to the latest statistics from Counterpoint Research. Cupertino managed to sell around 2.5 million iPhones in the South Asian country throughout last year, with a third of total shipments coming from sales of the iPhone 7 in Q4 2016. During the same period, Apple managed to grab the 10th place in smartphone rankings for the first time in India, and became the leader in the premium handset segment (above $450), holding 62% of the market share.Tim Cook & Co. have employed various strategies in order to entice Indian consumers. While Samsung is successfully holding the top spot with a headway that's more than double of its rival Apple's shipments, Xiaomi, the superstar start-up, which sells its phones in homeland China by the tens of millions, has broken into the list for the first time and ousted HTC from its 10th place. With this addition, the list is now half-Chinese, with fellow brands Huawei, Lenovo, Coolpad, and ZTE holding the third, fourth, sixth, eighth, and ninth places respectively.Then again, it's debatable how global are Chinese companies in reality.
