Qualcomm has announced a new chipset in the mid-range Snapdragon 7-series, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. It comes as a successor to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset from 2022. The new mid-range chipset promises double the performance of its predecessor. Built on the 4nm fabrication node of TSMC , the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset has a 1+3+4 architecture, with the main Kryo Cortex X-2 core clocked at up to 2.91GHz, 3x Cortex A710 cores running at up to2.49GHz, and rest 4 cores are Cortex A510 efficiency cores clocked at up to 1.8GHz. Qualcomm says that the new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 can deliver up to 50 percent more performance compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset. Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 brings faster performance, better photography, and more
The big picture: Qualcomm may be the leading mobile chipmaker at the top end of the market, but in the mid-range, the company faces serious competition from Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company MediaTek, whose SoCs have become increasingly more common in affordable devices, especially in China, India and other international markets. Qualcomm recently announced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 mobile chipset for premium mid-range smartphones. It is the second Snapdragon 7-series SoC announced by Qualcomm, and an upgrade over last year's Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. The company never announced a '+' variant of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, nor did it release a standard Snapdragon 7 Gen 2. In terms of hardware specs, Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 packs an octa-core CPU with a 1+3+4 core configuration that includes a Cortex-X2 Prime core at 2.91GHz, three Cortex-A710 Performance cores at 2.49GHz, and four Cortex A510 Efficiency cores at 1.8GHz. The new chip also comes with an unspecified Adreno GPU with … [Read more...] about Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 brings faster performance, better photography, and more

Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus debuts with 120W fast charging and 200MP camera
Xiaomi subsidiary Redmi has just introduced the Note 12 Series; its latest flagship line of products. It’s not technically a true flagship tier of devices, but that’s what the latest Xiaomi 13 is for. Rather, the Note 12 series continues the brand's efforts to nail down the most important features of a smartphone while dialling down on unnecessary niceties. The Redmi Note 12 series is made up of four phones: the Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 5G, Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G, and Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G, with the Note 12, 12 5G and 12 Pro Plus 5G set to go on sale in the UK on March 24 (at retailers including Xiaomi, Argos, Very and Amazon UK), while the regional availability of the 12 Pro 5G is still to be confirmed. Google Glass killed off for a second time
What just happened? Google Glass is dead, again. The AR glasses that failed as a consumer product before transitioning into a tool for enterprise use stopped being sold by Google on March 15. The company says it will end support on September 15. The original Google Glass' $1,500 price tag and concerns over privacy implications meant it never caught on with customers after first arriving in 2013. But Google gave it a new lease of life as an enterprise product by 2017, releasing a second-generation model named Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 a couple of years later. The $999 glasses are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR1 platform and feature a 1.7GHz clock speed, four cores, and an eight-hour battery life. They also come with a bigger display than the predecessor and are more comfortable to wear, making them ideal for businesses that want to use augmented reality, especially as they can withstand the rigors of work environments, according to the company. Google pushed the … [Read more...] about Google Glass killed off for a second time
Asus Zenfone 10 looks set to drop its predecessor’s best feature
Asus is set to debut a new Zenfone-branded flagship smartphone in the Zenfone 10 , if patterns hold. Now, according to a report from Price Baba (opens in new tab) – citing leaker Paras Guglani – the upcoming Zenfone 10 is set to supersede last year's Zenfone 9 in one important way. The report says that the brand is set to replace the compact 5.9-inch phone with a 6.3-inch model, abandoning its pursuit of the ironically small compact phone market. Asus’s Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 9 had broken ground as powerful compact smartphones which boasted clean Android software, up-to-date hardware, and small frames. The Zenfone 9 was 5.9-inches, as we mentioned, as was the Zenfone 8 before it. The Zenfone 10, for its part, is rumored to sport a 6.3-inch display; the same size as the Google Pixel 7 . It’s also to come with a 120Hz AMOLED display, though there are no resolution details shared in this latest report. Other than the size, the Zenfone 10 is set to be a powerful … [Read more...] about Asus Zenfone 10 looks set to drop its predecessor’s best feature
