Three Potentially Risky Ways to Save a Lot on Textbooks

August 26, 2010 by www.howtogeek.com Leave a Comment

You can always save money on textbooks by buying online, going ebook , or renting what you need. But there are riskier ways to save a buck that just may yield even greater payoff, such as getting the international or earlier edition of the text, or avoiding the purchase altogether. You already know that the textbook system is a scam. Publishers often crank out new editions without making substantial changes. Schools follow standard procedure over saving students money. And sometimes a class hardly uses the textbook at all. If getting that perfect A is what you’re aiming for, it’s safer to play by the rules and buy your the required edition. However, if you just need to pass, are taking the class for fun, or are really that stripped for cash, consider the alternatives. And keep in mind that none of these alternatives come without some risk involved. The Risky Route to Obtaining Your Textbooks Before you invest time or money in any alternative to buying straight from the … [Read more...] about Three Potentially Risky Ways to Save a Lot on Textbooks

If you’re experiencing issues with your Amazon Fire TV apps, clearing the cache can be a solution. We’ll guide you through the process of deleting the temporary files on your Fire TV device. What Is the Cache on Amazon Fire TV Devices? The cache is a set of temporary files that your installed apps create during normal function. These cache files efficiently serve your apps with the data they require. However, these cache files sometimes get corrupted, and as a result, your apps suffer from various issues. Clearing the cache helps fix those issues. Doing so does not delete your app or the data you have saved in it, so don’t worry about losing any functionality. Be aware, though, that on your Amazon Fire TV device, you can only clear the cache on a per-app basis; there is no way to clear the entire cache for the device at once. This PoS malware blocks contactless payments to steal credit card data

February 1, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… Cybersecurity researchers have spotted new versions of a known Point of Sale (PoS) malware (opens in new tab) that blocks advanced features to be able to steal credit card data. The team from Kaspersky observed the Prilex PoS malware versions 06.03.8070, 06.03.8072, and 06.03.8080, in the wild. These versions were released in November 2022, and prevent the terminal from accepting contactless credit card transactions. Contactless transactions, made possible due to near-field communication (NFC) chips found in both PoS terminals on one end, and credit/debit cards, smartphones and smart watches on the other, exploded in popularity during the Covid-19 pandemic. The technology allows consumers to purchase goods and services without actually inserting their credit cards, making it almost impossible for hackers to steal the data via PoS malware. Swiping away the data However to work around this issue, the threat actors deployed a new … [Read more...] about This PoS malware blocks contactless payments to steal credit card data

February 2, 2023 by blogs.nvidia.com Leave a Comment

For several years, NVIDIA has been working with some of the world’s leading financial institutions to develop and execute a wide range of rapidly evolving AI strategies. For the past three years, we’ve asked them to tell us collectively what’s on the top of their minds. Sometimes the results are just what we thought they’d be, and other times they’re truly surprising. This year’s survey, conducted in a time of continued macroeconomic uncertainty, the results were a little of both. From banking and fintech institutions to insurance and asset management firms, the goals remain the same — find ways to more accurately manage risk, enhance efficiencies to reduce operating costs, and improve experiences for clients and customers. By digging in deeper, we were able to learn which areas of AI are of most interest as well as a bit more. Below are the top four findings we gleaned from our “ State of AI in Financial Services: 2023 Trends ” survey taken by nearly 500 global financial … [Read more...] about Survey Reveals Financial Industry’s Top 4 AI Priorities for 2023

Republican States Ask Federal Judge to End DACA

February 2, 2023 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

A group of nine Republican states, led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, asked a federal judge on Tuesday to overrule President Joe Biden’s updated Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. “This lawsuit is about the scope of executive power, not the wisdom of any particular immigration policy,” the states argued in their motion for summary judgment. “No President can unilaterally override Congress’s duly enacted laws simply because he prefers different policy choices.” The lawsuit will be heard before U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen, who held that the 2012 Obama-era DACA memo was unlawful in the Summer of 2021. Hanen’s ruling was ultimately upheld by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. However, the Fifth Circuit remanded the case to the district court in light of an updated DACA rule Biden issued that went into effect on October 31. Immigration advocates rally to urge to urge Congress to pass permanent protections for DACA recipients and … [Read more...] about Republican States Ask Federal Judge to End DACA
