Update (11/28): According to The Android Soul, the Oreo beta is officially rolling out to registered V30 and V30 Plus users in South Korea. The online publication states that the update weighs in at around 1.2 GB and brings the November security patch as well. LG’s track record with flagship Android OS updates has been mightily impressive in recent years. This made it all the more disappointing when the LG V30 launched in October running Android Nougat – the same version as its year-old predecessor, the V20.V30 owners can at least look forward to an Android 8.0 Oreo update very soon. LG is targeting an official rollout in December for South Korea buyers, with the US and other countries expected to follow shortly after. However, while the rest of the world will have to wait patiently for an OTA present during the festive season, buyers in LG’s home region can sample all of Oreo’s goodness by signing up for a public preview program that launched earlier … [Read more...] about (Update: Beta rolling out) LG V30 owners can preview Android Oreo 8.0 early, but only in South Korea
LG V30 users can now request the Android 8 (Oreo) preview for their smartphone. There is a major caveat though, one which many of our readers won't be happy about. The preview is only being offered to South Korean owners of the device, and applying for the preview is done through the unit's 'Quick Help' app. After opening the app, the phone's user clicks on 'LG OS Preview.'After requesting the preview, the user will receive a notification sometime this month, and the phone will be upgraded OTA. Once the preview is installed, it will include new features coming with the Android 8 build such as the eagerly awaited Picture-in-Picture mode. This allows users to watch video, even while doing other things in the background LG and Google partnered on a similar arrangement last year when 2,000 LG G5 owners in South Korea were able to get an early preview of Android 7.0 Nougat. This year, there is no limit on how many can sign up for the Oreo preview. And unlike last year when only LG U+ … [Read more...] about LG V30 users get opportunity to preview Android Oreo, but only in South Korea
HTC promised that it'll bring the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its One M8 flagship within 90 days, and it seems that the Nexus 9 manufacturer won't be dropping the ball. Earlier today, the HTC One M8 (0P6B) was caught getting its Bluetooth certification, which indicates that HTC is, as expected, deep into development of its Lollipop-based custom interface -- Sense UI.Obviously, a Bluetooth certification doesn't mean that the device will get an update next week, as that's not usually the case. What's more, it's not impossible that while this particular certificate is now checked off the list, the company still has quite some work to do on Lollipo -- despite having had access to the developer preview (Android L) for months now. That, at least, is how it typically goes -- the more significant the custom skin is, the more time it takes for OEMs to debug it and ensure that it'll be problem-free enough for prime time. What's more, do keep in mind that if you're on, say, AT&T or … [Read more...] about HTC One M8 with Android Lollipop passes Bluetooth certification, OTA update closer than expected?
If you're a mix of an Android lover and Pokemon fan, you have probably been faced with a pretty horrible dilemma in the past few days – the newly released, instantly viral Pokemon Go game didn't run on the developer preview Android N, which is currently available. Some may have resorted to rolling back to Android 6 Marshmallow, others may have decided to patiently wait and hope for an update. Well, the update is now here. A version 0.29.2 of the Niantic-made AR game that has people crashing their cars, walking into walls has now been released and is reported to work on Android Nougat devices. We wouldn't be surprised if there are more bugs than usual when trying to run Pokemon Go on the beta operating system, and we wouldn't hope for any type of reliable support for any issues we run into. But if your love for the newest Android and Pokemon is equal and you can't choose between the two – you can now have both. The link to download the update can be found in the source. … [Read more...] about Pokemon Go now runs on Android 7 Nougat developer preview
Microsoft continues to unleash new apps on Android and iOS. It already brought Office for free to said platforms, but the Redmond, WA-based tech giant seems committed to expanding its diverse app portfolio as it just released an official preview of its overhauled Outlook app on both Google Play and iOS, allowing all those fans of its free email service to make full use of it. This new entrant is all the more quite different from Microsoft's Outlook Web App for Android - it's a much more functional and well-designed solution for those who can't live without their Outlook email client. Well, we were quite sure that this will be the case indeed, as Outlook for Android is nothing else but slightly redesigned Acompli, a former iOS and Android mobile email app, as Microsoft acquired its eponymous developer roughly two months ago. We have no gripes with this - after all, Acompli was among the better email clients available, so it's natural that Outlook Preview follows suit. The app … [Read more...] about Microsoft officially releases Outlook Preview for iOS & Android, it is actually Acompli in disguise
