Audio player loading… It takes a lot to surprise an audio geek in 2022. However, I was truly stoked to learn about the JBL Tune Flex; an affordable, water-resistant, ANC-toting pair of earbuds that also boasts two different wearing styles – open or closed. Upon receiving a set to try, I also note the translucent case showcasing the battery pack, connections and other glorious innards. I had the black/grey pair to try, but there's a gorgeously retro purple color too. As I said when JBL's transforming product was released, you've never seen earbuds like these and I applaud the ingenuity. Also, little details such as these can add up to great value. To clarify the proposition: unlike Oladance's admirable fully open design which goes nowhere near the recesses or folds of your ear, JBL's solution includes supplied tips to change the buds from simply resting in the well-like part of your outer ear or concha (in the way Apple's EarPods or AirPods (2019) do), to … [Read more...] about I tried earbuds that swap from in-ear to open-ear, but they prove you must specialize

Carl Pei’s Nothing has shown a glimpse of its next product, which looks as distinct as its previous offerings. Starting with Ear (1) last year, the company unveiled its second product, the Nothing Phone (1), earlier this year, both sharing the same transparent design language. Now, the third product and second pair of earbuds, the Ear (stick), seem to follow the trend of transparency. First showcased at Chet Lo's SS23 London Fashion Week runway, the Nothing Ear (stick) has a cylindrical charging case resembling the form factor of a stick, thus stick. The company teases the Ear (stick) as "supremely comfortable" and"exquisitely unique." Similar to the Nothing Ear (1) and Phone (1), the Ear (stick) can be seen as having a transparent case, with the usual ‘Nothing’ branding. Nothing says classic cosmetic silhouettes inspire the upcoming Ear (stick) charging case. However, it would not be the first time we have seen a cylindrical charging case for earbuds. A cheaper … [Read more...] about Nothing Ear (stick) teased: What to expect and other details

You may well have missed it, but Bose's new QuietComfort Earbuds 2 were announced on the same day that Apple introduced the AirPods Pro 2 and iPhone 14 -- and promptly ended up getting a bit overlooked. New Apple products, especially much-anticipated ones like the AirPods Pro 2, are like a black hole that pretty much sucks up any and all other news in that week's tech solar system. But after getting my hands on the QuietComfort Earbuds 2 -- or QC Earbuds 2 as they're apt to be called -- I can say they're easily among the best earbuds of 2022 . Not only did they fit my ears really well, but they have great noise canceling, excellent sound and improved voice-calling performance. Many folks will think they're too expensive at their list price of $299 (£279, $AU429), or $20 more than the original QuietComfort Earbuds . But I'll save that value debate for the end of the review after I go through all their strengths, along with a few weaknesses. Apple now has several different AirPods to choose from. But which is the best, the Apple AirPods 3 vs AirPods Pro (2019)? Audio player loading… What do you do if you're a forward-thinking fledgling tech outfit keen to shift the 'one-time-half-of-OnePlus' image? You coquettishly showcase your new earbuds at London Fashion Week, revealing precisely no new information about them – nope, not even a sliver of info. Nothing. Founder Carl Pei has never walked a particular path when it comes to Nothing, and this recent fashion stunt is no exception. Nothing products were displayed throughout designer Chet Lo’s SS23 runway show (part of this year’s London Fashion Week) including the unreleased earbuds case and Nothing Phone 1 – with its striking lights shining out from the stretchy translucent bag it was stuffed inside. In accordance with previous leaks , Nothing's follow-up to the Nothing Ear (1) earbuds does look to have a tube-shaped, stick-like case. And of course it's transparent. Sadly, we don't have anything else to go on – and my love of headphones and music goes a little deeper I'm … [Read more...] about Nothing shows off new earbuds at Fashion Week, but I need more than catwalk looks
Audio player loading… Regular readers will need no further fanfare from us on JLab's Go Air Pop , the cheap $20/£20 earbuds that somehow managed to receive an unprecedented 4.5 stars out of five under intense review at this publication – leaving us with no option but to put them right near the top of our best earbuds buying guide. And naturally, they're sitting pretty in pole position on our best cheap headphones roundup too. But there's one feature that I think marks them out above all others: JLab has capitalized on its success by offering these winning budget headphones in a series of neutral colors, all of which are meant to change how people view wireless earbuds. Make no mistake, JLab's Go Air Tones earbuds are the Go Air Pop wearing a different jacket, but they might just be the first collection of skin-tone based, mass-produced earbuds designed to be more discreet in appearance than the look-at-me black, white, or brightly colored options that are more commonly … [Read more...] about Come on Apple, the best cheap wireless earbuds have this great feature, why don’t AirPods?
