Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro Ongoing Review: Better Batteries, Bye Bezel

August 16, 2022 by www.cnet.com Leave a Comment

The Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are Samsung's latest wearables that want to be your go-to Android watch. Set for release on Aug. 26, along with the Galaxy Fold 4 and Flip 4 , they have bigger batteries, a new temperature sensor and a more durable design. But they lose the fan-favorite rotating bezel that the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic model still offers as an alternative to using a touch-sensitive rim. This year's watch comes in two variants : The Galaxy Watch 5 and a slightly larger, more rugged Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Apart from the construction, sports modes and battery capacity, they share most of the same features. So far, I haven't found that many significant differences warrant an upgrade from last year's Galaxy Watch 4 series given the software is largely unchanged and the new temperature sensor is not yet active. But the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is the more tempting proposition if you want a more durable watch with a bigger battery. With the Pixel Watch on the horizon and … [Read more...] about Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro Ongoing Review: Better Batteries, Bye Bezel

China Boasts ‘Increasing Important Role’ in Propping up the Taliban

The Chinese state-run Global Times newspaper applauded its bosses on Tuesday for playing “an increasing important role” in helping the Taliban cement its stranglehold on Afghanistan through business ventures, particularly in pursuit of the country’s vast mineral wealth. The Taliban, a Sunni terrorist organization, seized control of the country a year ago on Monday as a result of leftist American President Joe Biden extending the 20-year Afghan war beyond the previous deadline of May 1, 2021. The group, which had previously agreed to negotiations with the U.S.-backed Afghan government, responded to Biden extending the war into September, and then walking back the deadline to August, by launching tens of thousands of attacks on the government and ultimately making it into Kabul. Then-President Ashraf Ghani, who insists he remains president of Afghanistan to this day, immediately fled the country upon the Taliban’s arrival in the capital. Taliban jihadists have struggled to … [Read more...] about China Boasts ‘Increasing Important Role’ in Propping up the Taliban

Urbanista brings solar-powered headphone tech to true wireless earbuds

August 10, 2022 by www.theverge.com Leave a Comment

Urbanista is following up its solar-powered over-ear headphones from last year with a pair of solar-powered true wireless earbuds called the Phoenix, the company officially announced today. Like the headphones, Phoenix uses Powerfoyle solar panels produced by Exeger to extend their battery life with power from the sun’s rays. But unlike the Los Angeles headphones that have solar panels built into the headband, the panels aren’t included on the Phoenix earbuds themselves. Instead, they’re built into the Phoenix charging case. The decision to shift the solar-charging tech to the charging case makes sense given the small size of the earbuds. But it’s likely to mean that users will have to make an effort to keep the solar panels directed at the sun. A headphone band on top of your head is going to be ideally placed to pick up the sun’s rays whenever you’re using them outside, for example, but most people tend to keep their earbuds’ charging case in their pocket or bag while … [Read more...] about Urbanista brings solar-powered headphone tech to true wireless earbuds
