On Wednesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “AC360,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) argued that the Senate gun legislation “paves the way in the future to look at” other gun control provisions. Host Anderson Cooper asked, “Well, there [are] probably a lot of people who wanted this to — obviously, you said you wanted this to go farther in terms of gun safety or gun control. What do you say to those who say that this doesn’t go far enough and that this may make it harder to try to get further changes in the future?” Klobuchar responded, “We have worked on this for decades. And after Parkland, I sat across from Donald Trump at the White House, along with a number of senators, he said he was going to do something about background checks. I still have the piece of paper, eight times, nine times, he said it…nothing happened. After Sandy Hook, nothing happened. And when you talk to the families who have been working on this for so long, they understand how difficult this has been, how disappointing … [Read more...] about Klobuchar: Senate Gun Bill ‘Paves the Way’ for Other Gun Control Measures

Dem Sen. Murphy: Senate Gun Bill Getting GOP Support Paves ‘the Way for Even More’
On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “All In,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) stated that Republican senators supporting the Senate gun legislation over opposition from the NRA “sort of paves the way for even more progress in the future, now that we have broken this logjam.” And “That’s maybe the legacy of the bill in the long run.” Murphy stated, “[F]or 30 years in Washington, the NRA got everything they wanted, and if the NRA opposed a bill, it was essentially dead letter. That’s not the case any longer and that is because, over time, citizens have organized, and especially in the wake of Uvalde, when senators went home, they heard loud and clear from their constituents that this time, doing nothing could not be an option. The fear and the anxiety was just palpable in this country. So, yes, the NRA is opposed to this bill and there are going to be somewhere between 15 and 20 Republican senators that are going to vote for it, which I think sort of paves the way for even more progress in … [Read more...] about Dem Sen. moon: Nasa picks 3 firms to design nuclear power plants for Moon
Washington, The US space agency Nasa has picked three design concept proposals for a nuclear fission surface power system design that could be ready to launch by the end of the decade for a demonstration on the Moon . This technology would benefit future exploration under the Artemis mission that aims to land the first woman and the first person of colour on the lunar surface and establish long-term exploration in preparation for missions to Mars . Lockheed Martin , Westinghouse and IX (a joint venture from Intuitive Machines and X-Energy), won the 12-month contracts, to be awarded through the DOE 's Idaho National Laboratory, which are each valued at approximately $5 million. The contracts fund the development of initial design concepts for a 40-kilowatt class fission power system planned to last at least 10 years in the lunar environment. A demonstration of such systems on the Moon would pave the way for long-duration missions on the Moon and, … [Read more...] about moon: Nasa picks 3 firms to design nuclear power plants for Moon
NASA rolled out its new massive rocket to the launchpad for the second time
This morning, NASA’s new monster rocket, the Space Launch System, rolled out to its Florida launchpad for a second time, paving the way for the agency to perform a crucial dress rehearsal with the vehicle later this month. If that test goes well, then NASA may be poised to finally launch the rocket on its uncrewed debut flight sometime this year. The Space Launch System, or SLS, is a key component of NASA’s Artemis program — the agency’s endeavor to send the first woman and the first person of color to the surface of the Moon, which NASA hopes to conduct by 2025 . The SLS’s history has been extremely bumpy. It has been in development for roughly a decade now, a period that’s been marked by cost overruns and delays . Back in March, NASA rolled out the SLS for the first time from within the agency’s massive Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), where the rocket had been fully pieced together. It made the four-mile journey to its launchpad at LC-39B at … [Read more...] about NASA rolled out its new massive rocket to the launchpad for the second time
Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a board game
Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a board game courtesy of a Kickstarter campaign . Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is a strange twist on the high-tech, low-life underbelly of the world brought to life by CD Projekt Red and Mike Pondsmith. The game is being published by CMON Games, which have put together board game adaptations of God of War and Bloodborne in addition to other existing IPs. If the slang-ridden synopsis of the game provided on its Kickstarter page is any indicator, it’s clear that its creators have some serious reverence for the source material: “Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is a competitive game in which 1 to 4 players take on the role of ruthless gangs vying for control of the underground in the glittering hellhole that is Night City. Clash with other gangs in the meat or on the Net as your enterprising band of toughs seeks to gain dominance over the criminal underworld that rules the streets. Only the boldest will be remembered, and your Street Cred will … [Read more...] about Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a board game
artemis: NASA ready with Artemis 1 moon mission test launch
The US space agency has determined that its Space Launch System (SLS) megarocket is ready for the Artemis 1 flight test. The agency will now roll SLS and Orion back to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at Kennedy next week to prepare the rocket and spacecraft for launch, NASA said in a statement late on Friday. Artemis 1 will be the first integrated test of NASA's deep space exploration systems -- the Orion spacecraft, SLS rocket and supporting ground systems. As the first in a series of increasingly complex missions, Artemis 1 will pave the way for long-term exploration at the Moon in preparation for human missions to Mars . "We have completed the rehearsal phase, and everything we've learned will help improve our ability to lift off during the target launch window," said Tom Whitmeyer, deputy associate administrator for common exploration systems at NASA Headquarters. "The team is now ready to take the next step and prepare for launch," he … [Read more...] about artemis: NASA ready with Artemis 1 moon mission test launch
The maker of the world’s largest chip has made a major AI breakthrough
Audio player loading… Cerebras Systems, maker of the world’s largest processor , has broken the record for the most complex AI model trained using a single device. Using one CS-2 system , powered by the company’s wafer-sized chip ( WSE-2 ), Cerebras is now able to train AI models with up to 20 billion parameters thanks to new optimizations at the software level. The firm says the breakthrough will resolve one of the most frustrating problems for AI engineers: the need to partition large-scale models across thousands of GPUs . The result is an opportunity to drastically cut the time it takes to develop and train new models. Cerebras brings AI to the masses In sub-disciplines like natural language processing (NLP), the performance of the model correlates in a linear fashion with the number of parameters. In other words, the larger the model, the better the end result. Today, developing large-scale AI products traditionally involves spreading … [Read more...] about The maker of the world’s largest chip has made a major AI breakthrough
No license/entry fee for enterprises seeking 5G spectrum for captive networks: DoT
India has formally set the ball rolling for building captive private 5G networks by issuing rules which said enterprises seeking spectrum directly from the telecom department would be given a renewable licence for 10 years against a non-refundable application charge of Rs 50,000. Such companies won’t need to pay any entry or licence fee. According to the guidelines for setting up captive non-public networks ( CNPN ) released by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) late Monday, entities that apply for spectrum need to have a minimum net worth of Rs 100 crore. The applicant must be registered under the Companies Act and an "occupant of the geographical area/property on which it intends to establish the CNPN". A private captive 5G network runs on mobile broadband technology and is set up by a private entity for the use of just one organisation. It is similar to a captive coal mine. In order to obtain spectrum directly from the government, the DoT will undertake demand … [Read more...] about No license/entry fee for enterprises seeking 5G spectrum for captive networks: DoT
The FCC authorizes SpaceX’s Starlink system to be used on vehicles in motion
Today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted SpaceX authorization to use its Starlink satellite internet system on vehicles in motion — including cars, trucks, boats, and aircraft. It’s a big win for SpaceX’s Starlink system, potentially opening up the service to a more diverse range of use cases and customers. SpaceX requested regulatory approval from the FCC in March of last year to allow Earth Stations in Motion (ESIM) Starlink terminals to be used in moving vehicles. To tap into the system and receive broadband internet coverage, customers must purchase a personal ground-based antenna, or user terminal, that is designed to connect with any orbiting Starlink satellites that happen to be overhead. Up until now, those dishes have had to remain in a fixed location in order to access the system. Now, the FCC has granted SpaceX’s request — as well as one from another satellite company, Kepler Communications — paving the way for a new class of user terminals that can … [Read more...] about The FCC authorizes SpaceX’s Starlink system to be used on vehicles in motion
