A Spanish judge has granted an eight-year-old child the ability to change the gender on their birth certificate, claiming the child was sufficiently mature to make the decision. A judge for the civil registry in the Spanish city of Ourense granted the child, born female and wanting to be recognized as male, the ability to change their gender on their birth certificate and other government documents. The parents of the child had initially attempted to have the child’s name changed when the child was five years old and requested to have their gender changed last May but a judge in September of last year denied the request, claiming the child lacked sufficient maturity, newspaper El Mundo reports . Father begs Apple CEO to help unlock his dead 13-year-old son’s iPhone
An Italian father has reportedly written to Apple CEO Tim Cook, pleading for help to unlock his dead 13-year-old son’s iPhone 6 so that he can retrieve the photos stored on it. "I cannot give up. Having lost my [son] Dama, I will fight to have the last two months of photos, thoughts and words which are held hostage in his phone," Leonardo Fabbretti wrote in the March 21 letter, which was quoted Wednesday by Agence France Presse . "I think what’s happened should make you think about the privacy policy adopted by your company. Although I share your philosophy in general, I think Apple should offer solutions for exceptional cases like mine," he said. Since iOS 8, Apple has said that it has engineered its phones such that the company cannot access data held on a phone without the passcode. Apple recently refused to help the FBI disable the 10-passcode limit on the iPhone 5C that was used by San Bernardino terrorist Syed Rizwan Farook. The incident is one of many that highlight the … [Read more...] about Father begs Apple CEO to help unlock his dead 13-year-old son’s iPhone

Tata Consultancy Services ( TCS ) reportedly seems set to roll out chip-based e-passports by the end of the year. According to a report in Economic Times (ET), TCS is also setting up a new command and control centre with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as well as new data centre to support the backend requirements of the project. A legal challenge over crypto reporting could strike down decades-old anti-money laundering laws
Ever since the Silk Road, Bitcoin’s power to fuel anonymous transactions (and, more specifically, money laundering) has been a prime concern for lawmakers and law enforcement agencies. A new provision passed as part of the infrastructure package tried to tackle that issue, but it’s running into stiff opposition from cryptocurrency groups — and a legal challenge that could have huge implications for financial transparency across the country. In November 2021, when President Biden’s trillion-dollar Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act was signed into law, a controversial cryptocurrency-related provision was passed along with the major legislation on roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. The bipartisan infrastructure bill included an amendment to the tax code that required any business or individual receiving a cryptocurrency transaction of more than $10,000 to report it to the IRS, using a specific form that includes the sender’s name, date of birth, and taxpayer … [Read more...] about A legal challenge over crypto reporting could strike down decades-old anti-money laundering laws

Epic uptime achievement unlocked. Can you beat 16 years?
It's September 23, 1996. It's a Monday. The Macarena is pumping out of the office radio, mid-way through its 14 week run at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, doing little to improve the usual Monday gloom. Easing yourself into the week, you idly thumb through a magazine, and read about Windows NT 4.0, released just a couple of months previous. You wonder to yourself whether Microsoft's hot new operating system might finally be worth using. Then it's down to work. Microsoft can keep its fancy GUIs and graphical server operating systems. NetWare 3.12 is where it's at: bulletproof file and print sharing. The server, named INTEL after its process, needs an update, so you install it and reboot. It comes up fine, so you get on with the rest of your day. Sixteen and a half years later, INTEL's hard disks—a pair of full height 5.25 inch 800 MB Quantum SCSI devices—are making some disconcerting noises from their bearings, and you're tired of the complaints. It's time to turn off the old … [Read more...] about Epic uptime achievement unlocked. Can you beat 16 years?
Elden Ring devs could be working on a game we’ve been waiting on for 10 years
Audio player loading… Elden Ring developer FromSoftware is working on multiple new projects, raising the question of what the studio could have in store for us next. Following the release of Elden Ring earlier this year, the studio has begun a new recruiting drive. “We have started recruiting staff for a wide range of occupations for multiple new projects,” it tweeted (opens in new tab) (translated using Google). “We look forward to working with you on making games with FromSoftware.” The slate of new jobs covers a range of disciplines, including game design, animation, technical design, art, sound, and production. There’s little to glean from the job descriptions as to what projects FromSoftware has in the pipeline, with most of them written in generic industry job speak. We're mecha-ing an educated guess There is one interesting tidbit, though. The Character 3D graphic artist (opens in new tab) lists design creation for “humans, creatures, and mecha”. … [Read more...] about Elden Ring devs could be working on a game we’ve been waiting on for 10 years
MEPs Vow to Fight ‘Immoral’ and ‘Dangerous’ EU COVID Pass Extension
MEPs from across the EU have told Breitbart Europe that they will continue to challenge the EU’s COVID pass regime as it comes up for renewal on Thursday. Members of the European Union’s Parliament (MEPs) have told Breitbart Europe that they will continue to fight against the bloc’s regime of COVID passes as their renewal is voted upon by the European Parliament on Thursday. Having been set to expire at the end of this month, the bloc’s Civil Liberties committee voted last week to see the measures extended for another year, justifying the decision by saying that it was important to have the COVID pass system in place “in case it is needed”. However, several representatives elected to the European Parliament from across the EU have told Breitbart Europe that they vehemently oppose such a renewal, with a number of MEPs saying that the measures represent an unjustifiable intrusion on the rights of ordinary people. ‘Are You Serious?’ Eurocrat Claims Bloc Never Pushed People … [Read more...] about MEPs Vow to Fight ‘Immoral’ and ‘Dangerous’ EU COVID Pass Extension
Copenhagen Police: Mall Shooter Had Mental Health Issues
Police in Copenhagen, Denmark, say they do not currently believe a mass shooting at Field’s shopping mall was terror-related, and that the suspect had mental health issues. “Our suspect is also known among psychiatric services, beyond that I do not wish to comment,” Copenhagen police chief Soren Thomassen told reporters at a Monday morning press briefing, in comments quoted by AFP. “Our assessment is that the victims were random, that it isn’t motivated by gender or something else,” the Scandinavian police chief added, appearing to rule out the possibility that the suspect, said to be a 22-year-old ethnic Dane, was an incel killer . Police have admitted that the suspect, who carried out his attack armed with a rifle and handgun for which he did not have a licence as well as a knife, was previously known to law enforcement “but only peripherally”. They also say it “seems he was acting alone.” Police monitor the area outside the Fields shopping mall, where a gunman … [Read more...] about Copenhagen Police: Mall Shooter Had Mental Health Issues
