Facebook-parent company Meta has reportedly received a go-ahead from a court to complete its purchase of virtual reality startup Within Unlimited, after the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) sought to block the deal saying the purchase could end the competition in the market. A report by Bloomberg cited people familiar with the ruling as saying that a US judge denied the FTC’s request for a preliminary injunction to block the proposed transaction. The judge also issued a temporary restraining order that will essentially block Meta from closing the transaction for a week. This gives time to the FTC to appeal the ruling. What’s the case? In July 2022, the FTC filed a complaint to block Meta from acquiring virtual reality studio Within, which makes the popular VR app Supernatural. FTC said that the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company bought Within to end competition in the fitness market. Meta already owns Beat Saber which is a lot similar to Supernatural. Google may introduce Apple’s Continuity Camera rival with Android 14
Google is said to introduce another Apple -like feature. Apple introduced the interesting Continuity camera feature last year. The feature can turn the iPhone into a webcam for the Mac. Now it appears that tech giant Google is also working on a similar kind of feature. According to Android expert Mishaal Rahman, Google is planning to enable native support for using Android phones as webcams for PCs and Chromebooks. The company is working on rolling out the feature with Android 14 . "Using an Android phone as a webcam became really popular during the pandemic, but you've typically had to install a third-party app to do so. You may not have to do this in the future, though, as Google is adding support for turning Android devices into USB webcams!", tweeted Rahman. Rahmaan further revealed that he spotted the information in the Android Open Source Project repository. He noticed a service called 'DeviceAsWebcam'. This yet-to-launch feature is rumoured to … [Read more...] about Google may introduce Apple’s Continuity Camera rival with Android 14

Netflix brings its impressive Spatial Audio sound to even more shows
Audio player loading… It was big news when, in July 2022, Netflix teamed up with audio behemoth Sennheiser to bring Spatial Audio support to a handful of the former’s original movies and TV shows for customers on its premium plan, without the need for specialist headphones that support it. At the time of announcement, that support was limited to tentpole projects like Stranger Things , The Adam Project and The Witcher – but now, Netflix has announced plans to expand spatial audio compatibility to over 700 existing and upcoming titles. In essence, this kind of Spatial Audio converts regular stereo output into expansive, three-dimensional sound that aims to mimic the experience of watching movies in a theater. Headphones that work with Dolby Atmos , such as Apple AirPods Pro 2 , could already do Spatial Audio from Netflix – but this new system improves the quality of sound emitted from any of the best headphones , as well as from laptop or standard TV … [Read more...] about Netflix brings its impressive Spatial Audio sound to even more shows

It looks like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony will skip E3 2023
Audio player loading… 2023 may mark the first year ever where E3 has been without an appearance from Xbox, Sony, or Nintendo. This marks a significant moment in a gradual shift in the games industry that’s been years in the making. The E3 convention in June is often where we hear about all the upcoming games for Xbox Series X |S, Nintendo Switch , and PS5 . Whether updates on games already announced or big reveals of new titles, the show has traditionally been a fixture in the games industry’s calendar. However, IGN (opens in new tab) says it “has heard from multiple knowledgeable sources that Xbox, Sony, and Nintendo won’t be part of E3 2023 or have a presence on the Los Angeles Convention Center show floor.” We may still hear from the big three platform holders in showcases around the event, but according to the report, they won’t attend the show to make their games playable for the press or consumers. In January, Microsoft confirmed plans … [Read more...] about It looks like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony will skip E3 2023

It’s Time to Stop Using Desktop Icons
Modern computers carry a lot of baggage from the past, and desktop icons are perhaps one of the most unsightly remnants of the earliest days of Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). If you’re still living with them, it’s time to quit. Desktop Clutter Helps No One Whether on macOS, Windows, or another graphical operating system, the desktop is a big open space that plays host both to files and to shortcuts to other resources on your device. Over time those desktop shortcuts and files can quickly accumulate to fill the entire screen. However, even if you only have a desktop with a moderate number of icons, you’re still creating an inefficient space to actually find anything. Hunting for icons on a desktop, especially a modern high-resolution desktop, is a pain. The desktop is a great space for working with applications, but as a place to access apps and store files, it leaves much to be desired. Docks, Taskbars, and Instant Search Is Superior Desktops were meant to give users … [Read more...] about It’s Time to Stop Using Desktop Icons
How to Disable Search In Windows
If you really don’t use Windows Search much, you can disable indexing completely by turning off the Windows Search service. You’ll still be able to search–it will just take longer without an index. RELATED: How to Choose Which Files Windows Search Indexes on Your PC If you’re thinking of disabling Search because it’s slowing things down, we recommend trimming down what files and folders are getting indexed and seeing if that works for you first. And if you’re experiencing crashes or inaccurate searches, try rebuilding your search index . You should also note that other apps–notably Microsoft Outlook–use Windows Search to allow searching within those apps, so you’ll have to do without fast searching in those, as well. That said, if you’re planning on using another search app or you just don’t search often and would rather not have the service running, Windows Search is easy to disable. Hit Start, type “services,” and then click the result. On the … [Read more...] about How to Disable Search In Windows
